Sri Lanka’s Short-Term Outflows Exceed Usable Reserves

These twelve-month (short-term) outflows refer to predetermined net drains on foreign currency assets and include foreign currency liabilities of both the government and the central bank of Sri Lanka

This IKR upload contains 01 document with the English infographics and 01 document with the Sinhala infographicsFor the end year assessment of the 2021 budget, 37 RTI requests were filed to 28 implementing government agencies for information on Expenditure Proposals and Verité filed 12 RTI requests with 9 implementing government agencies for the regulatory proposals. The proposals were categorized into five categories based on the level of openness similar to that done in previous years; “closed”, “restricted”, “uncooperative”, “responsive” or “open”. The proposals were also assessed according to how far they have been implemented under the categories of "undisclosed", "fulfilled", "substantial", "partial", "poor" and "broken". Flow of External Loans to Sri Lanka
For the past five years (2017-2021) China has been the largest bilateral lender to Sri Lanka. In 2021, China disbursed a total of USD 947 MN, out of which USD 809 MN was obtained as market borrowings from the China Development Bank. The Asian Development Bank ( ADB ) has been the largest multilateral lender in the past 5 years and disbursed funds amounting to LKR USD 610 MN in 2021. In the first four months of 2022 a total of USD 968 MN has been disbursed. The largest bilateral lender in this period was India. Disbursements from India (USD 377 Mn) and ADB ( USD 360 Mn ) account for 76% of total disbursements in the first four months of 2022
Syndicated Surveys: Mood of the Nation - Round 01 2022
Syndicated Surveys by Verité Research which gauge public sentiment on Sri Lankans' various social and political viewpoints. The data is collected through a telephone interview and a nationwide randomised sample of around one thousand people is taken into consideration. The Mood of the Nation poll is conducted periodically by Verité Research and is based on an island wide nationally representative sample of responses. The sample and methodology are designed to limit the maximum error margin to under 3% at a 95% confidence interval, which meets the gold standard of surveys. The Mood of the Nation survey is designed to assess the approval, satisfaction, and confidence of the nation in relation to the government, the country, and the economy. The poll is based on an island wide nationally representative sample of responses from 1,000 plus Sri Lankan adults. The poll is conducted as a part of the syndicated survey instrument by Verité Research and the polling partner was Vanguard Survey (Pvt) Ltd. This instrument also provides other organisations the opportunity to survey the sentiments of Sri Lanka
