Effects of LDD and CAPE Administration on Total Antioxidant and Total Oxidant Levels in Experimental Periodontitis Model of Rat Brain
Aim: Observing the effects of caffeic acid phenethyl ester (CAPE) and/or low dose doxycycline (LDD) on total antioxidant and oxidant status of brain in experimental periodontitis is the purpose of the study. Methods: 48 male Wistar albino rats were designed as the following: control group (C, n=8), periodontitis + CAPE group (PC, n=10), periodontitis + LDD (PD, n=10), periodontitis + LDD + CAPE group (PCD, n=10), and periodontitis group (P, n=10). The time period for the experiment was 14 days. 10 µmol/kg/day of CAPE was administered using an intraperitoneal injection (IP). 10 mg/kg/day of LDD was administered using an oral gavage method. Histopathological changes were evaluated. Results: Beneficial results were seen in all of the groups after LDD and/or CAPE administration on decreasing the alveolar bone loss level and oxidative stress. All of the experimental groups showed signs of periodontitis with alveolar bone loss. The P group leads with the most alveolar bone loss compared to the other periodontitis groups and the lowest group was the PC group in the periodontitis groups. The evolution of alveolar bone loss from high to low was that group P, group PD, group PCD, group PC, and group C (P 0.05). Conclusion: The combination of LDD and CAPE are not significantly different when applied alone or together on oxidative status. But both of the agents have beneficial effects on reducing the oxidative stress and tissue damages
Diagnosis and Treatment of Acute Pulmonary Embolism: A Single Center Experience
Aim: Pulmonary embolism is a potentially life-threatening cardiovascular disease frequently encountered in emergency departments. The computed tomography pulmonary angiography is the imaging modality of choice in the diagnosis of pulmonary embolism. This study aimed to examine the effects of clinical findings and treatment methods on prognosis and mortality by examining patients diagnosed with acute pulmonary embolism in the emergency department. Methods: In this retrospective cohort study, records of patients with acute pulmonary embolism were accessed from the archive. Patients' age, gender, medical complaints, co-morbidities, the treatment method applied to the patients, and the clinical outcomes of the patients were analyzed. The statistical distribution of the patients' demographic and clinical information was calculated. Results: The most common complaint of 206 patients with acute pulmonary embolism was dyspnea. 25.7% patients had massive pulmonary embolism. The blood d-dimer, lactate and troponin T levels of patients with massive pulmonary embolism were found to be higher than patients with sub-massive pulmonary embolism. Thrombolytic therapy was administered to 6.8% of acute pulmonary embolism patients and it was found to be a method that had a statistically positive effect on survival. D-dimer, white blood cell, neutrophil, blood urea nitrogen, lactate and troponin T values were found to be higher in mortal patients. It was determined that 13.1% of the patients died. Conclusion: The sooner the early diagnosis of acute pulmonary embolism, which can be mortal in the emergency department, is made and the treatment is started, the mortality rate will decrease significantly
The role of mother-child relationship between young children's anxiety and social play
The aim of this study was to explore the moderating role of mother–child relationships (closeness and conflict) in the relations between children’s anxiety and play behaviour in the sample of Turkish preschool children. Participants were N = 211 children (117 boys, M age = 64.08 months, SD = 12.26) attending preschool from suburban areas in Ankara. Mothers rated children’s anxiety and mother–child relationships, whereas teachers provided ratings of children’s social play. Among the results, children’s anxiety and mother’s conflict was positively correlated with reticence behaviour and negatively correlated with social play. Moreover, mother–child closeness significantly moderated these associations. The current findings suggest that mother – child relationships moderated the association between unsociability and social play in children (buffering effect). The interaction between anxiety and mother–child closeness could be beneficial for predicting unsociable children’s social play behaviour. Mothers can improve their relationship depending on unsociable children to provide nurturing social play behaviour. Limitations and future directions of the current study are discussed

Impact of COVID-19 First Official Vaccine Approval on Precious Metals: A Behavioral Finance Approach
This research aims to reveal the effect of first official COVID-19 vaccine approval on precious metal prices in terms of return and volatility. Within the context of precious metal, gold, silver, platinum, and palladium are selected as dependent and US dollar index as independent variables. In order to measure the difference in the returns and volatilities before and after the first official approval of the COVID-19 vaccine, a dummy variable is defined. Analysis studies have been carried out with EGARCH models. According to the results, it is determined that the first official COVID-19 vaccine approval had negatively affected the level of volatility for gold and silver prices. The approval does not affect the volatility of platinum and palladium. Besides, a negative relationship is found between both all precious metals and the US dollar index in terms of returns. It is assumed that the results could be interpreted as investors acted by the risk aversion bias before the first official approval of the COVID-19 vaccine, and the approval created an effect of reducing uncertainty in the financial markets

A novel image Denoising approach using super resolution densely connected convolutional networks
Image distortion effects, called noise, may occur due to various reasons such as image acquisition, transfer, and duplication. Image denoising is a preliminary step for many studies in the field of image processing. The vast majority of techniques in the literature require parameters that the user must determine according to the noise intensity. Due to the user requirement, the developed techniques become almost impossible to use by another computer system. Therefore, the Densely Connected Convolutional Networks structure-based model is proposed to remove noise from gray-level images with different noise levels in this study. With the developed approach, the obligation of the user to enter any parameters has been eliminated. For the training of the proposed method, 2200 noisy images with 11 different levels derived from the BSDS300 Train dataset (original 200 images) were used, and the success of the method was evaluated with 1100 noisy images derived from the BSDS300 Test dataset (original 100 images). The images used to evaluate the success of the proposed method were compared to both the traditional and state-of-the-art techniques. It was observed that the average SSIM / PSNR values obtained with the proposed method for the whole test dataset were 0.9236 / 33.94 at low noise level (sigma(2) = 0.001) and 0.7156 / 26.39 at high noise level (sigma(2) = 0.020). The results show that the proposed method is a very effective and efficient noise filter for image denoising
