    Phil Cobb's Master's Guitar Recital

    This thesis presents extended background and musical information upon my recital program. The composers and their pieces are as follows: Johann Sebastian Bach (March 31, 1685 - July 28, 1750), Prelude, Fugue and Allegro, BWV 998; Reginald Smith Brindle (January 5, 1917 - September 9, 2003) Variants on two themes of J.S. Bach; Enrique Granados (July 27, 1867 - March 24, 1916), "La Maja de Goya" from Tonadillas al estilo antiguo; Stephen Goss (born February 2, 1964) Hiraeth; Manuel de Falla (November 23, 1876 - November 14, 1946) Homenaje "Le Tombeau de Claude Debussy"; Wes Montgomery (March 6, 1923 - June 15, 1968) "Mi Cosa"; Anthony Hedges (March 5, 1931 - June 19, 2019) Three Fancies for guitar, Op. 58. This repertoire touches upon the history of evolving guitar technique, as the instrument's demand has fluctuated. Though much of this program is influenced by the Spanish tradition and 20C British music, the pieces are diverse and demonstrate a wide range of technical and harmonic understanding. "Mi Cosa", though composed for electric guitar, has been arranged for the idiom of the concert guitar. Further, a deeper investigation of Variants will be held, considering CSUN's special collection of Smith Brindle's music, articles, and notes

    Developing Hybrid Thermoelectric Materials For Wearable Applications

    Thermoelectric devices are highly regarded for their ability to efficiently convert heat into usable electrical energy, offering a range of advantages. Composed of inorganic materials, these devices are commercially employed in various unique applications, including deep space exploration. They excel in converting waste heat into electrical power without the need for active maintenance, generate no noise pollution, and are both compact and reliable. Recent research has sparked interest in utilizing hybrid thermoelectric materials, promising safe and flexible applications. Advancements in this field could pave the way for innovative uses in wearable and implantable devices that can harness excess body heat for power, eliminating the need for batteries, charging, or maintenance. To enhance the thermoelectric performance of organic materials, hybrid material systems can be developed through various fabrication methods such as vacuum fabrication. By combining organic materials like PEDOT:PSS with graphene and tellurium nanowires, significant improvements in the performance of thermoelectric devices can be achieved through alterations in charge transport properties

    This poster explores the 'Pillars of Participation' project which transformed two lobby pillars into interactive graffiti spaces for student engagement and feedback. Originally conceived to encourage students to express themselves through chalk art in the library lobby, the project has evolved into an assessment tool that allows students to share their needs regarding library resources, services, and technology. Unlike traditional surveys or focus groups, the use of public spaces for feedback collection turns engagement into a passive, yet effective, method of communication giving a voice to students who may not typically participate in formal feedback processes. This form of inclusive participation aligns with equity goals by ensuring that all students, regardless of their technological access, can contribute. The data gathered from these interactions offers practical insights into how libraries can analyze student feedback to inform future initiatives. By inviting student voices into our spaces, we reinforce the belief that collaboration builds stronger, more responsive libraries—because we are stronger together

    Analysis of Economic Resilience, Social Equity, and Financial Systems Development: A World Bank Data Study

    [ABSTRACT ONLY; NO FULL TEXT] The aim of the study is to explore the relationships between social equality, economic security, and banking systems across several countries between 2021and 2023. The study examines how government debt, the environment, access to financial markets, and income distribution patterns interact to determine the overall strength of the economy and the ease with which people can ascend in society. The core topic of the research is whether sustainable development criteria can enable realistic forecasts of long-term economic growth and reduced inequality. The research utilizes World Bank variables obtained from various sources, which are translated and examined using a thorough data chain. The research organizes elements into six areas using a custom-built database design: public debt, statistics, the environment, the economy, finances, and society. This facilitates cross-domain research. The Scientific framework makes much use of many statistics and machine learning techniques. The scientific framework relies heavily on statistics and machine learning techniques, including logistic regression, ridge regression, classification methods, and neural network modelling. This method can assist in forecasting future behavioral changes and understanding previous tendencies. The research will investigate from multiple aspects how the world economy responds to various social, ecological, and financial elements. Notable results will include the statistical proof of links between the growth of the financial sector and social mobility a classification system based on profiles of economic resilience; and prediction models based on the structures of public debt.     Game-Day Dietary Intake and Body Image Perception of NCAA Division II Female Basketball Players

    Background: Basketball is a high-intensity, interval sport which requires use of aerobic and anaerobic energetic pathways. Previous literature shows that female basketball players are not meeting protein intake and energy recommendations, leading to low energy availability (LEA) and negative energy balance (EB). LEA can be tied to body image, and this could impact athlete health. Purpose: The purpose of the present study was to obtain a snapshot of general characteristics of female collegiate basketball players, data on energy restriction and body image, and dietary intake. Methods: Eighty-eight female NCAA Division II basketball athletes who played in the NCAA West region completed a survey on general characteristics, body image, and were invited to complete a dietary recall (n = 3). Dietary data was analyzed using the GSSI DATA modified 24-hour recall and nutrient database. The survey data was downloaded from Qualtrics for analysis. Participant information, characteristics, and other information was downloaded from Qualtrics. Data was analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-tests, Chi-square tests, and analysis of variance (ANOVA) as appropriate. Results: Twenty-one freshmen, nineteen sophomores, twenty-one juniors, twenty seniors, and four redshirts completed the survey. Participants had an average age, height, weight, and BMI of 20.33 ± 1.40 years, 69.5 ± 4.05 inches, 156.4 ± 19.8 pounds, and 22.83 ± 2.71 kg/m^2 respectively. The majority of athletes reported somewhat or strongly agreeing with positive body images. However, 8% of the sample reported engaging in caloric restriction on most days of the week. Of the athletes who completed the diet recall, only 1 was meeting current nutrition recommendations for basketball players. Conclusion: Division II female basketball athletes may not be meeting recommended dietary intakes, however the majority of participants had a neutral to positive body image perception. These data suggest nutrition education should be a priority for these athletes

    Artificial Intelligence Use of Perceptions by Disabled Adults

    Artificial Intelligence (AI) has become integrated into daily life for most people, including people with disabilities. This study examines the use of AI by disabled adults, their perceptions ofhow helpful AI is, and the relationship between use and perceptions of AI via analysis of a survey about and membership form of disabled adults via phi and logistic regression. Findings indicate that most disabled adults use AI in many contexts, that AI is helpful for people with disabilities, and that the number of AI tools disabled adults use is associated with a more helpful perception of AI. Over90% of disabled adults feel that artificial intelligence is helpful for people with disabilities. Not only do disabled adults feel that artificial intelligence is helpful, nearly all of them are using artificial intelligence in their day-to-day life. 90% or more of disabled adults are using artificial intelligence in the areas of communication and assistance, creativity and enhancement and productivity and decision making. Nearly 80% of disabled adults are using artificial intelligence for safety and security. Our findings indicate disabled adults who use AI are more likely to feel that AI is helpful for disabled people, whereas the strongest driver of AI perceptions is the volume of use across amyriad of contexts

    Community Impacts of Hillcrest's Redevelopment

    This thesis investigates the cultural and political impacts of redevelopment in Hillcrest, a historically LGBTQ+ neighborhood in San Diego. As luxury housing and rezoning reshape the area under the banner of 'community revitalization,' longtime residents experience not only spatial change but a sense of symbolic displacement. Drawing on eleven in-depth interviews, the study explores how queer community members interpret shifts in the neighborhood's identity, particularly the loss of culturally specific venues, the mainstreaming of queer space, and the prioritization of tourism and affluent newcomers. While displacement is often subtle or symbolic, participants express concern over cultural erasure and the weakening of community bonds. The thesis calls attention to the stakes of redevelopment and urges urban policy that foregrounds affordability, cultural preservation, and community agency

    A Numerical Investigation of the Turbulent Wake of a Square-Back Bluff Body Using Wall-Modeled Large Eddy Simulation

    The Windsor model is a simplified automotive bluff body characterized by a square-back geometry, which is representative of a transport vehicle. It has often been used for research with interests in drag reduction techniques and wake analysis. The turbulent wake past a Windsor body is known not to carry the common key flow features seen in typical automotives: counter-rotating streamwise vortices, separation bubbles, and a recirculation region. Rather, its wake dynamics feature a more complicated set of dynamic modes that switch randomly over time. This research assesses wall-modeled large eddy simulation (WMLES) in the context of automotive aerodynamics, which is generally characterized by high Reynolds number turbulent flows of bluff bodies in close proximity to the ground. WMLES reduces the computational cost of resolving the inner region of a turbulent boundary layer by replacing the no-slip boundary condition with a wall model that estimates the wall shear stress. The flow past the Windsor body is investigated using OpenFOAM and a third-party WMLES library, libWallModelledLES. Tests are performed with a freestream velocity of 40 m/s at a Reynolds number ReH = 7.6 × 105. Results demonstrate that WMLES successfully captures the flow behavior and wake dynamics but is limited by a lack of temporal resolution due to the long-time evolution required for the Windsor body
