Paesaggi invisibili.
Travelling safe? Risks associated to Dirofilaria spp. infection in dogs in a tourist destination
Dirofilaria immitis and Dirofilaria repens, the causative agents of canine heartworm disease and subcutaneous dirofilariosis, respectively, are the most studied filarioid species, given their veterinary and public health significance. Considering the environmental conditions and the role of Sardinia as a tourist destination, a study was conducted on 741 dogs to update the prevalence and the risk factors of these infections. For each animal, information regarding biological and management parameters was collected. All enrolled dogs were older than 12 months and had no macrocyclic lactones treatments in the previous year. Blood samples were obtained and analyzed by modified Knott's test and ELISA rapid test (SNAP 4DX, IDEXX). An overall microfilaremia prevalence of 15.2% was observed; D. immitis was the most prevalent species (9.9%), followed by D. repens (5.5%), while Acanthocheilonema reconditum microfilariae were identified in 3.1% of the samples. Dirofilaria immitis antigens were detected in 12.2% of the dogs included in the study. Dirofilaria immitis infection risk was statistically significant, considering the absence of ectoparasite treatments (χ2 = 21.863, P < 0.001), shelter housing (χ2 = 6.512, P = 0.011) and residence areas (χ2 = 64.725, P < 0.001). Dirofilaria repens infection risk was significantly higher in male dogs (χ2 = 4.904, P = 0.027), along with small-sized dogs (χ2 = 5.450, P = 0.020). This study confirms that dirofilariosis remains endemic across Sardinia, emphasizing the need for integrated control strategies to reduce the risk of infection spreading, protecting both animal and human health

Long-term spatial and temporal patterns of lake surface water extent in mainland Southeast Asia
Study region
Lakes in Mainland Southeast Asia (SEA)
Study Focus
Lakes are sensitive indicators of climatic conditions, reflecting environmental shifts and offering insights into climate change impacts. This study investigated changes in lake surface water extent (LWE) across 651 lakes in mainland SEA, a region highly vulnerable to climate change. A 36-year monthly time series (1984–2019) of LWE derived from Global Surface Water products was used to map and analyze these changes. A semi-automated approach delineated and mapped LWE changes, producing three datasets: a discontinuous monthly LWE dataset (SEA-LWEun), a gap-filled continuous monthly LWE dataset (SEA-LWEgf), and a gap-filled, smoothed version (SEA-LWEsm).
New Hydrological Insights for the Region
The continuous datasets enabled detailed monthly and annual LWE analysis, including seasonal variation. Accuracy was assessed using RMSE, MAE, Bias, and NSE, with comparisons to global datasets. By addressing earlier discontinuities, this study improves regional LWE change assessments, revealing a net positive LWE change across SEA. Specifically, 192 lakes showed a significant average increase of 0.004 km2/year (total gain: 24.9 km2), while 127 lakes saw an average decrease of −0.002 km2/year (total loss: 10.8 km2). The SEA-LWE dataset, provided in GIS-ready vector format, fills key gaps in long-term hydrological data, advancing our understanding of climate variability’s impacts on LWE over the past three decades

New-ragic.
The essay analyses the changes introduced in the text of art. 114 c.p.p. by Legislative Decree no. 198 of 10 December 2024, with the provision of a ban on the publication of orders applying personal precautionary measures until the preliminary investigations are concluded or until the end of the preliminary hearing. The author focuses on the exact delimitation of the object of the newly minted ban and on the related temporal boundaries, critically reviewing the coherence of the new intervention with respect to the purpose declared by the legislator (the complete adaptation to Directive 2016/343 on the presumption of innocence), while at the same time highlighting the coordination defects with other provisions of the code, the asymmetries with respect to the content of the enabling law
and, finally, the persistent gaps (also in terms of sanctions) that emerge from the complex system of bans on the publication of certain procedural documentsIl contributo analizza le modifiche introdotte nel testo dell’art.
