Mémoire Présenté en vue d’obtenir Le diplôme de Master en Développement Rural et Agro-BusinessMany households have land to cultivate but their capacity for self-financing is insufficient. Moreover, the implementation of farmer support methods aims to increase agricultural production, which should promote household income growth and ensure the satisfaction of their nutritional needs. The implementation of methods to support farmers aims to increase agricultural production, which should promote the growth of household incomes and ensure the fulfillment of their nutritional needs. This thesis aims to study the impact of the financing system for sustainable agricultural farms on the empowerment of rural households, as well as the factors influencing member dropout within Mutual Support and Stimulation Groups (GSEMs) in the KIRIMIRO region.
The primary data come from a survey conducted in June 2025 among 260 farming households from the communes of Gitega in Gitega province, and Ndava and NYABIHANGA in Mwaro province. The target population includes both households benefiting from the Association for Peasant Dignity (ADIP) financing and those without any access to funding.
The descriptive analysis considered the characteristics of the agricultural farms, while the econometric analysis was performed using two models: linear and logit. The comparison of average incomes between the two groups was carried out using SPSS and STATA software.
On one hand, variables such as the mastery of credit repayment methods and the flexibility of credit significantly reduce member dropout in GSEMs at the 1% level, whereas financial difficulties and the quality of services provided by GSEMs increase dropout at the 5% level.
Among the six variables included in the multiple linear regression model, three are significant at the 1% level: access to financing, income-generating activities, and farm size; while the use of organic fertilizer, agroforestry practices, and livestock ownership are significant at the 5% level. The Fisher test confirms joint significance at the 1% level.
On the other hand, the analysis of the effect of access to financing on household autonomy shows that the ability to immediately pay for healthcare, the ability to promptly pay children’s school fees, the creation of income-generating activities, and agricultural income are the main indicators of autonomy among financed households
Assessing Health Information System Data Quality Management in LifeNet-Supported Facilities in South Kivu, Democratic Republic of Congo
Article de rechercheAims: To evaluate the quality of HIS data in LifeNet-supported facilities in South Kivu and correlate data completeness, accuracy, and timeliness with staff competency, training, and governance factors to validate current data management practices. This study is significant as it enhances understanding of data quality in LifeNet-supported health facilities, guiding improvements in information management and health service delivery in South Kivu.
Study Design: A retrospective quantitative cross-sectional analytical research design.
Place and Duration of Study: Study conducted in LifeNet International-supported health facilities across ten health districts in South Kivu Province, Democratic Republic of Congo, including Idjwi, Ibanda, Kabare, Kadutu, Miti-Murhesa, Nundu, Nyangezi, Nyatende, Uvira, and Walungu, between October 2023 and March 2024.
Methodology: This study included 155 healthcare workers from 74 LifeNet International-supported health facilities across ten districts in South Kivu Province, DRC. Data were collected through a retrospective review of Maternal and Child Health (MCH) records and a structured HIS Assessment Questionnaire administered to healthcare workers. Data completeness, accuracy, and timeliness were evaluated using the Verification Factor (VF). Descriptive and inferential statistical analyses were performed using SPSS version 28 to assess relationships between HIS data quality and influencing factors.
Results: MCH data quality was high: accuracy 89%, consistency 87%, completeness 93.3%, and timeliness 86.7%. Health worker competency showed high neutrality—data aggregation 62.6%, in-service training 65.2%, electronic skills 72.3%, HMIS usability 61.9%, pre-service training 75.5%—indicating limited confidence in HIS skills. Challenges in data collection were notable, with 46.5% neutral on cross-checking, 71.6% unsure about functional databases, and 62.6% unclear on monitoring roles. Regression analysis indicated systemic challenges strongly predicted health information use (β = 0.850, p < 0.001), while individual competency was not significant, highlighting the need for improved operational support.
Conclusion: Systemic challenges, more than individual competency, significantly affect health information use, highlighting the need for stronger operational support, clear roles, and targeted HIS capacity-building in facilities
Article de rechercheThe main objective of this article is to study perceptions of malaria as socio-anthropological factors influencing the therapeutic itinerary of adult patients in Burundi.
This is a mixed exploratory study carried out among the Burundian population, taking into account their geographical situation (rural and urban). Qualitative and quantitative methods were used during data collection from 30 patients in the Kibuye Health District for the qualitative part while quantitative data were collected from 4248 patients from the 47 Health Districts in Burundi. A thematic content analysis was carried out for the qualitative data while the quantitative data were processed and analyzed using SPSS software. Results reveal that, in Burundi, the perception of malaria and the search for care are complex.
The causes of the disease are linked to anthropomorphology and amphibology. This leads Burundians to seek care in different places. In order to provide better care for this disease, the Government, through the Ministry of health, would ensure that these perceptions are taken into consideration. Good cooperation between health institutions, on the one hand, and the population, on the other, is desirable in the fight against this endemi
Option : Analyse EconomiqueOur research study focuses on: “Analysis of the effects of household poverty on children’s school attendance in Burundi”. The main objective of our study is to analyze the effects of household poverty on children's school attendance in Burundi. The target population for this study is children aged 6 to 17. The data used comes from the Integrated Survey on Living Conditions in Burundi (EICVMB 2019/2020). We will conduct a descriptive analysis and an explanatory analysis.
The results obtained generally confirm the hypotheses formulated. Household poverty has a negative influence on school attendance among children aged 6-17 in Burundi. Middle-class and wealthy households send their children to school more than poor households. In addition, the results reveal that sociodemographic factors such as the age of the child and the size of the household have a negative influence on school attendance among children aged 6-17 in Burundi. In fact, as the age of the child increases, the probability of attending school decreases, and school attendance is higher in small households than in large ones. Finally, the results show that sociocultural factors such as the place of residence have a positive influence on school attendance among children aged 6-17 in Burundi. School attendance among children living in urban areas is significantly higher than among children living in rural area
This is a vulnerable phase where the nutrition and lifestyle of the mother significantly influence the health of both the mother and the newborn. Nutritional knowledge is a key factor in ensuring positive outcomes during pregnancy and is crucial for adopting healthy eating habits and improving dietary quality. The aim of this study is to analyze the factors influencing this knowledge and these practices in the Cankuzo health district, Burundi.
Methodology: A cross-sectional study was conducted among 384 pregnant women from six health centers in the Cankuzo health district. Participant inclusion was limited to women who came for prenatal follow-up during the survey and agreed to participate in our study. A questionnaire adapted from a standard tool developped by WHO and FAO was used for data collection. Analysis was performed using STATA 15 software.
Results: The results indicate that only 29% [(95% CI: 0.24-0.33)] of women in the Cankuzo health district have satisfactory nutritional knowledge, and only 13% [(95% CI: 0.10-0.17)] have satisfactory nutritional practices. In multivariate analysis, household size of 5 members or more (OR = 3.89; 95% CI: 1.22-12.40; p = 0.021), access to the market (OR = 2.97; 95% CI: 1.48-5.96; p = 0.002), non-agricultural income (OR = 17.52; 95% CI: 6.79-45.18; p = 0.001), and being a member of a cooperative (OR = 32.38; 95% CI: 13.7-79.61; p = 0.001) are factors associated with nutritional knowledge. Factors such as non-agricultural income (OR = 28.35; 95% CI: 10.01-80.3; p = 0.000), involvement in community structures (OR = 26.48; 95% CI: 9.07-77.31; p = 0.000), and access to health services (OR = 9.91; 95% CI: 2.55-38.51; p = 0.001) are associated with nutritional practices, as well as the woman's profession, with an (OR = 101.6; 95% CI: 2.23-4617.9; p = 0.01) for female farmers and (OR = 85.59; 95% CI: 2.14-3413.9; p = 0.01) for female traders.
Conclusion: Our study, the first conducted on a large population of pregnant women in a rural setting, reports a low prevalence of nutritional knowledge and practices among pregnant women. These findings highlight the need for nutrition sensitization interventions among pregnant women to improve maternal and child health

Biharmonic curves represent a generalization of geodesics, appearing as critical curves of higher-order energy. Their study is motivated by potential applications in mathematical physics, particularly in areas such as general relativity.
The thesis begins with an introduction to the fundamental concepts of differentiable manifolds, Levi-Civita connections, and curvature properties. It then establishes a theoretical framework for Walker manifolds, highlighting their metric structure and characteristic connections.
The analysis focuses on biharmonic curves, defined by a zero energy condition for the associated bitension field. We derive the equations characterizing these curves in the context of Walker manifolds, identifying existence conditions for non-geodesic trajectories.
Finally, explicit examples illustrate the results obtained, underscoring the dynamic richness allowed by the degenerate structure of Walker manifolds. This thesis contributes to the understanding of higher-order energy trajectories, paving the way for future generalizations towards more complex types of curves
Mémoire Présenté et défendu publiquement en vue de l’obtention du diplôme de Master en Socio-anthropologie Option : Socio-anthropologieThis study examines social inequalities in access to hearthcare in Burundi ,focusing on the accessibility of hearth insurance cards for vulnerable groupes in commune Gisagara at BUHUMUZA province. The main research question explored why inequalities persist despite the legal obligation for every citizen to subscribe to health insurance. The results confirm that health insurance card significantly facilitates access to healthcare for vulnerable populations, validating the central hypothesis .However ,structural and socio- economic barriers sach as registration fees ,distance to health centers ,and administrations delays limit the effectiviness of this policy .Local health institutions play a crucial role in guiding and assisting beneficiaries ,yet their capacity is constrained by limitedlimited resources and staf shortages.Contraly to initial expectations ,discrimination based on residency and lack of information are not major obstacles ,as these minor hyopheses were disproved .Health policies theoretically address inequalities, but their implementation remains uneven and poorly adapted to local realities . The findind indicate that health insurance is an effective tool improving access to healthcare, but alone it con not eliminate disparities . The stady recommends strengthening local institutions, decentralizing services, and implementing targeted support measures to insure truly equitable access for vulnerable populations
