The COVID Long Term Care Facilities page was obtained from Michigan\u27s COVID-19 data page: https://www.michigan.gov/coronavirus/stats/data-about-places/long-term-care-data. This report is created by the Michigan Department of Health & Human Services from data self-reported by long-term care facilities into EMResource. Data for all reporting facilities is posted weekly each Monday. The information below represents COVID-19 data reported directly to MDHHS by licensed and operating Skilled Nursing, Home for the Aged and Adult Foster Care facilities (licensed to serve 13 or more individuals) in Michigan from January 1, 2020. All long-term care facilities additionally have an obligation to report COVID-positive residents and/or staff to their Local Health Department. Ensuring accurate and timely reporting by those facilities subject to MDHHS reporting requirements is a priority for the State of Michigan. The data is leveraged to guide state efforts and ensure sufficient support is provided where it is needed most, as well as to allow transparency for residents and families. MDHHS employs ongoing data validation processes and works with the Institute for Health Policy at MSU to support additional validation exercises on the data. When a facility is flagged for a validation concern, the department may work with the Regional Health Care Coalition, conduct direct outreach, and provide technical assistance to the facility. Facilities are provided the opportunity to correct entry errors identified during the validation process. All data presented is considered provisional and may change as facilities correct or add data

Hope on the Slopes: Occupational Therapy\u27s Role in Adaptive Ski Programming

    Get PDF
Adaptive skiing and Occupational Therapy (OT) have potential to merge well together. They both aim to enable individuals, regardless of ability, to engage in a purposeful activity or occupation through providing the appropriate supports or interventions (Lundberg et al., 2021; AOTA, 2020). Although OT is acknowledged as a service delivered in community-based settings (AOTA, 2020), there is limited evidence to support a collaboration between OT and its involvement in community-based adaptive ski programing. The purpose of this Doctoral Capstone Experience (DCE) is to explore the role of OT in a community-based adaptive ski program, Challenge Mountain. Through serving alongside the Program Director, facilitating programs, implementing theory to guide decision making, and interacting with participants, it became clear that a collaboration can add value to not only Challenge Mountain as an organization, but also the field of OT. Most importantly, the DCE revealed that self-determination is enhanced when individuals with disabilities are provided an opportunity to choose a novel or challenging activity coupled with the applicable supports, as recommended by theoretical principles such as Self Determination Theory (SDT), Ecology of Human Performance (EHP) model and Social Cognition frame of reference (Dunn et al., 1994; Cole & Tufano, 2020)

Exploration of Driving Rehabilitation Best Practices to Sustain an Occupation Focused Driver Rehabilitation Program

    Get PDF
In the United States driving dominates as the primary mode of transportation connecting people to resources including work, school, stores, and hospitals. Driving enables individuals to participate in the occupations they need or want to do, which is why it is a critical Instrumental Activity of Daily Living (IADL). Because driving falls within an occupational therapist’s scope of community mobility, many driving rehabilitation specialists have a background in occupational therapy. Driving rehabilitation is an expanding practice area, with emerging evidence supporting the use of an IADL based assessment for determining fitness to drive. Therefore, the main goal of this doctoral capstone experience was to evaluate the feasibility of incorporating an IADL based assessment at Origami Rehabilitation. To further support growth of the driving program, additional goals included streamlining the documentation process and developing a structured mentoring program. Delivered outcomes comprised of recommendations for the structure and format of driving evaluations, correlations between the selected IADL based assessment and on the road performance, updates to documentation processes and organization, and creation of a driving rehabilitation training and competency checklist. With the delivered outcomes, Origami Rehabilitation has the groundwork for sustaining an occupation focused and evidence based driver rehabilitation program

The COVID Vaccine Dashboard page was obtained from Michigan\u27s main COVID-19 page: https://www.michigan.gov/coronavirus/resources/covid-19-vaccine/covid-19-dashboard. First-dose tracker above is for entire Michigan Population. Coverage maps below are for age 5+. Previously reported numbers of administered vaccine doses may change as new data are received. A possible lag in reporting vaccine doses will result in increases in numbers previously reported. This report is created by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services Division of Immunization from data reported to the Michigan Care Improvement Registry (MCIR). The dashboard contained the tabs Primary Series Doses Administered, Primary Series Doses by Vaccine, Additional/Booster, Coverage, Age/Sex, Race/Ethnicity, Other, Enrolled Providers, and Learn More. The public use datasets contained the following downloadable Excel spreadsheets (.xlsx): COVID Vaccine Booster Coverage by County and Race, COVID Vaccine Additional/Booster Doses, Ethnicity-Race Coverage by County, COVID-19 Vaccines Delivered To Providers, COVID-19 Vaccine Doses Administered Since 11282021, COVID-19 Vaccine Doses Administered Between 05302021 And 11272021, COVID-19 Vaccine Doses Administered Till 05292021, COVID-19 Vaccine Coverage. It also contains Excel spreadsheets on vaccine orders per week (.xlsx): Pfizer, Moderna, Johnson & Johnson

The K-12 Aged ISD Reporting page was obtained from Michigan\u27s COVID-19 data page: https://www.michigan.gov/coronavirus/stats/k-to-12-aged-isd-reporting. This report is created from data reported by the Michigan Disease Surveillance System (MDSS) the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services\u27 web-based communicable disease reporting system. Data is updated every week. The purpose of the dashboard is to report the 7 day average of COVID-19 cases in Michigan school students aged 5 through 18 at the intermediate school district and school district levels, as well as display trends over time to better illustrate the changing nature of the COVID-19 pandemic. Cases are attributed to an intermediate school district and school district if their listed ages are between 5-18 year and if heir listed address falls within the bounds of the shool district. Individuals who live in one district but attend a school in another, as well as students who attend private school or are homeschooled are not represented. The report contains two graphs: Michigan Intermediate School District COVID-19 Case Reporting (CLI) and Michigan School District COVID-19 Case Reporting. There is also a weekly public use dataset entitled K-12 Aged ISD Reporting

The Syndromic Surveillance System Data report was obtained from Michigan\u27s COVID-19 dashboard, from under the link Coronavirus Symptoms : https://www.michigan.gov/coronavirus/stats/coronavirus-symptoms. Data was compiled by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS). The information was updated twice a week on Mondays and Thursdays. Syndromic Surveillance System data is obtained from approximately 216 facilities participating in syndromic surveillance (139 Emergency Departments (ED), 77 Urgent Cares) across the State of Michigan. The reporting is based on individuals who present at EDs and may not be representative of the overall population. The coronavirus-like symptoms query searches visit free-text (chief complaint, triage notes, and clinical impression) for fever or chills AND cough or shortness of breath or difficulty breathing. The report contains four graphs. Under the Region subtab entitled Public Health Preparedness Region are the graphs Coronavirus-Like Illness (CLI) and COVID-19 Diagnosis. Under the Age subtab entitled Age Group are the graphs Coronavirus-Like Illness (CLI) and COVID-19 Diagnosis
