Envisioning a World Without Rape in Late Fifteenth-Century Dream Narratives

    Get PDF
Recent scholarship has been preoccupied with questions of rape and consent in late medieval literature, partly influenced by the Me Too movement while we continue to grapple with Geoffrey Chaucer’s allegation of raptus. In such a climate, medieval texts that likewise challenge the normalization of rape in literature and society require renewed attention and critical interest. The three fifteenth-century poems I examine in this article, The Assembly of Ladies, The Floure and the Leafe, and The Isle of Ladies, push Chaucer’s dream vision tradition in a new direction, presenting us with female-centered models of cooperation, care, and governance. They show what the world would look like if women could move freely through public spaces; they highlight the value of mutual aid and collaboration; and they even give us a taste of revenge. Just as we should identify a spectrum of sexual violence within rape culture, ranging from harassment to assault, we should learn to identify a variety of types of resistance to rape culture, ranging from complaints to silent defiance to fullscale revolt

Oiez mon aventure : Cuer d\u27Acier\u27s Nonbinary Gender in Perceforest

    Get PDF
The character of Cuer d’Acier, or Heart of Steel, in the 15th century French romance Perceforest, has a complex gender identity that does not fit easily into a gender binary. First appearing as the courtly maiden Neronés, the character later lives and is read as a man. The romance uses both “he” and “she” pronouns to refer to Heart of Steel, often using both in the space of a single paragraph or even a single sentence. While Heart of Steel is again dressed as a woman at the end of the romance, the character’s own actions and statements indicate that they consider their gender to be something more than simply either/or. This essay examines Heart of Steel’s gender identity, considering both physical and social dimensions, and the character’s understanding of themself as well as how they are read by others

The Role of Occupational Therapy in Transition Programs for High School Students with Disabilities

    Get PDF
Public schools are required to provide reasonable accommodations to students with disabilities. Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) include transition planning to prepare for life after graduation focusing on employment and independent living. Although these services are required, high school students with disabilities have lower rates of employment and independent living compared to their peers. OT services are reimbursed under IEPs, but there is a gap in service with under-utilization in transition planning. The purpose of this DCE was program development with the transition program, Project SEARCH, while also exploring the role OT has in transition planning for high school students with disabilities. The goal of this project was to improve work skills, self-advocacy, and independence of the students enrolled in this program. This was completed using objectives including, understanding the student’s perspective of their work performance, analyzing their work tasks, creating environmental modifications, providing direct support at internship sites to improve task completion and efficiency, leading group lessons and activities to support classroom learning, and assisting with instrumental activities of daily living such as community mobility and health management skills. These objectives were created to enhance the skill set of these students and ultimately their independence utilizing occupational therapy services

Substance Use Disorder: Parent Support Group

    Get PDF
The focus of this 14-week capstone project revolved around program development and implementation of a parent support group through Wedgwood Christian Services for parents who are raising adolescents who were struggling with substance use disorder (SUD). Very little is known regarding interventions available to support affected parents to cope with the high stress that comes with navigating the waters of raising a teenager with SUD. The purpose of this project was to improve mental health, family dynamics, and overall quality of life for the affected parents who attended the support group once a week for four weeks. Evidence of stress reduction, improved mental health, and strengthened parent and teenager relationships were obtained through the Parent Stress Scale and a self-created feedback survey. Results indicated that stress levels were reduced after the four-week trial and parents reported increased levels of confidence while navigating their future relationship with their teenager

The COVID Vaccine Dashboard page was obtained from Michigan\u27s main COVID-19 page: https://www.michigan.gov/coronavirus/resources/covid-19-vaccine/covid-19-dashboard. First-dose tracker above is for entire Michigan Population. Coverage maps below are for age 5+. Previously reported numbers of administered vaccine doses may change as new data are received. A possible lag in reporting vaccine doses will result in increases in numbers previously reported. This report is created by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services Division of Immunization from data reported to the Michigan Care Improvement Registry (MCIR). The dashboard contained the tabs Primary Series Doses Administered, Primary Series Doses by Vaccine, Additional/Booster, Coverage, Age/Sex, Race/Ethnicity, Other, Enrolled Providers, and Learn More. The public use datasets contained the following downloadable Excel spreadsheets (.xlsx): COVID Vaccine Booster Coverage by County and Race, COVID Vaccine Additional/Booster Doses, Ethnicity-Race Coverage by County, COVID-19 Vaccines Delivered To Providers, COVID-19 Vaccine Doses Administered Since 11282021, COVID-19 Vaccine Doses Administered Between 05302021 And 11272021, COVID-19 Vaccine Doses Administered Till 05292021, COVID-19 Vaccine Coverage.
