A simplified methodology for planning and conducting training audits

    No full text
Although audits are a powerful tool for measuring compliance with standards and implementing continuous improvement in a training organisation, they can be very stressful for those being audited - in preparation and during the audit. This paper describes a simpler less stressful approach using a more people-oriented philosophy. The objective is to streamline and engage auditees more in the process. This is achieved by providing auditees with questionnaires in advance assessing their compliance with the standards being audited. This gives them time to compile their answers and locate evidence for the audit interview making the audit interview more effective and less stressful. The process is simpler for the audit team reviewing the completed questionnaire, sighting evidence and providing feedback. Other important considerations are: having a well defined audit plan, establishing a qualified audit team, providing preliminary notification of the audit and promotion of the audit as an improvement process – fact finding, not fault finding. This methodology is still being developed but to date has significantly improved internal AQTF and ISO audits conducted at Brush Farm Academy because it treats audits as holistic events involving people and processes
