Interview with James (Jim) Huntzicker, Ph.D.
Get PDFDr. James Huntzicker is a Professor in the Division of Management at OHSU. After growing up in Ann Arbor, Michigan and completing undergraduate studies at the University of Michigan, Huntzicker earned a Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley. Huntzicker briefly taught at the Indian Institute of Technology in Kanpur before accepting a position at the Oregon Graduate Institute (OGI) in 1974, specializing in Environmental Science. At OGI, Huntzicker held several administrative positions, including Head of the Department of Environmental Technology, Provost, and Acting President. Huntzicker remained at OGI through its merger with OHSU in 2001 and the eventual closure of the OGI campus in 2014. In this interview, Huntzicker looks back on his career and discusses his various roles at OGI. He gives special attention to the persistent financial issues that plagued the Institute during its existence and the administration’s attempts to alleviate them, including offering lucrative graduate programs, starting a ‘science park’ to attract paying visitors, receiving money from wealthy donors, and, eventually, merging with OHSU. Huntzicker also describes his experiences living and working in Kanpur, India during the beginning of the Bangladesh Liberation War

Containing sweet and savory recipes, this text offers resources to meet a variety of needs, including those preparing to feed a crowd (“chicken loaf for 50 people”), impress others at the holiday party (“Mary Lee Taylor’s husband-tested festive fruit cake”), or enliven a side dish (“unusual French dressing”). Though many of these recipes may seem old fashioned for contemporary home cooks, they allow the reader a glimpse into Oregon nurses’ kitchens and the social gatherings they may have attended
Pediatric obesity screening and treatment guidelines: a quality improvement project
Get PDFThe aim of this QI project was twofold, improve SHC staff confidence, knowledge, and practices in obesity management and implement a standardized approach to identify and provide evidence-based treatment. A 45-minute virtual education was held that covered weight terminology, AAP guidelines, weight bias, stigma, etc. Pre-education surveys and 4-month post-education surveys were collected. The aim of this project was not met, post-surveys showed improvements in both confidence and practice. Beliefs did not illustrate improvement but illustrate how providers own perceived beliefs may affect treatment and management
