Role of Streetscape in Shaping Urban Design in Romania. Applying the Concept of 3D Interactive and Interconnected Streets. Case Study: Urban Axis Bistrița-Beclean-Năsăud-Sângeorz-Băi. Urban boulevards are the most dispersed and heavily trafficked urban open spaces. As urban communities strive to improve decency in the built environment, planners and designers must have a succinct understanding of what contributes to the quality of urban landscapes. Streets are a vital part of any city\u27s public open space system. They act as movement corridors for pedestrians, cyclists, traffic, and vehicles and support many social and commercial activities. The presence and character of the streets play a huge role in determining the overall quality and liveability of the city. The document examines the existence of street elements - paving, street trees, central medians, lighting, and street furniture - which, when applied over time, enrich the city\u27s visual image and urban design. It also focuses on the basic elements and principles of the urban landscape that improve the quality of urban street design, accessibility, and pedestrian circulation. In addition, the analytical study covers some examples by relating the basic principles of the urban landscape to use them to develop the urban landscape of one of the main urban streets on the Bistrița-Beclean-Năsăud-Sângeorz-Băi urban axis. The article concludes with sustainable urban landscape solutions that will positively impact sustainable urban design, the functional and aesthetic aspects of the built environment, and, therefore, the visual image of cities in Romania

Universities represent more than mere centres of intellectual formation. They are dynamic communities where academic traditions, human relationships, and professional trajectories intertwine, shaping the cultural identity of a society. The volume entitled Universitari și universități în spațiul românesc (secolele XIX–XX). Studii și interpretări brings together a series of scholarly contributions authored by various Romanian researchers united by a common interest in the history of Romanian higher education. Functioning as a thematic collection of studies, the book offers, through each chapter, distinct perspectives on the development of university institutions, as well as on the professional and intellectual trajectories of academic staff within the Romanian space throughout the 19th and 20th centuries. This volume emerged following the National Congress of Romanian Historians, held in Alba Iulia between 8–10 September 2022, which featured a section dedicated specifically to university history. In the aftermath of this event, the volume\u27s coordinators, Cecilia Cârja and Ioana-Mihaela Bonda, archivists and historians within the Archives of the "Babeș-Bolyai" University, published six of the studies presented at the congress, acting not only as editors but also as contributors through their own studies

“Our Affection Contrived to Detain You”: Royal Love Scripts, Favours and Romanness in Cassiodorus’s Variae

This article explores the role and meaning of love-related emotions in the relationship between the Ostrogothic king and his officials represented by Cassiodorus (ca. 485-580), an Ostrogothic official and a member of the late-Roman elite, in his work Variae. First, after contextualising the work, the text outlines the authorial agenda on positive depiction for those kings, who preserved the Roman traditions, the Ostrogothic bureaucratic apparatus and interpersonal ties of love between the ruler and the officials. Second, the paper constructs and identifies five different scenarios of love, which had a social functionality aimed to maintain the continuity of a late-imperial stratified system of favours and court patronage. The article also shows that these scenarios expressed a normative behavioural ideal for an Ostrogothic ruler embedded in the sixth-century intellectual culture and the understanding of Romanness of the Italo-Roman elite. As a result, Cassiodorus departed from the late-imperial codes of emotive expression, but engendered an explicitly affectionate royal persona. And finally, the paper examines how it was possible to represent the ruler’s divergence from the emotional norms of love based on Roman ideal of self-restraint.

OVERCOMING AUTHORSHIP AND THE END OF LIBERAL MEANING. TOWARD A WORLD-SYSTEMIC THEORY OF LITERARY PRODUCTION

Overcoming Authorship and the End of Liberal Meaning: Toward a World-Systemic Theory of Literary Production. We explore the transformations of authorship in the algorithmic age, investigating literary production from a world-systems perspective in the larger context of both posthumanism and computational regimes of meaning, questioning the interpretive methods grounded on semiotics and liberal theory. Lightly drawing on various theoretical frameworks, our intervention offers a swift but comprehensive and historicist framework for conceptually understanding authorship beyond the limits of both ethico-political autonomy and poststructuralist intertextuality. Our central concept—the overcoming of authorship—describes a trans-individual, oscillatory, and eco-technological configuration of authorship shaped by affective systems, platform dynamics, and epistemological shifts located well beyond the confines of postmodernism. Jeffrey R. Di Leo (ed.), Theory as World Literature, New York: Bloomsbury Academic, 2025, 284 p.

Theory as literature: it is easy enough to grasp how these two terms may admit to a relationship of sorts. Certainly, one may very well reject this ‘as’, in an understandable attempt to starkly differentiate the two registers, drawing a line between the philosophical and the aesthetic. Or, conversely, it is equally justifiable to affirm an intimacy between theory and literature, to the point that either one may be considered an extension of, or towards, the other. Irrespective of one’s positioning, there is a rich conceptual tradition to back up either claim, and, in both cases, it makes perfect sense to discuss and problematize theory as literature. Thus, three of four words in the title of this collection, edited by Di Leo, can be comfortably dealt with. The fourth term, however, is much more problematic, and, as if that weren’t enough, it also forms the conceptual core of this collection. What is a ‘world’? What does it mean for literature to be ‘world’ literature, and for theory to subsequently be defined ‘as world literature’?  The ‘worlding’ of theory and literature is a most pressing issue precisely because, despite one’s wholly understandable confusion with respect to the term ‘world’, a pervasive process of neoliberal globalization of cultural manifestations is undoubtedly taking place as we speak. The problem of such a globalization, as Di Leo describes it in the introduction to this collection, is that it risks disintegrating the cultural specificity of the many theories and literatures of the world into an impossibly convoluted yet also thoroughly homogenized “babble” (4). Regrettable though such consequences of the global age may be, Di Leo keenly argues that a return to isolationist preservations of aesthetics and philosophies is certainly not an adequate solution: “To bracket and not consider them [globalization, postmodernity] because of their potential to provide an “infinite, ungraspable canon of works” in the name of world literature rather than a finite, graspable one is to bury one’s head in the ground of contemporary literary and cultural theory. That is to say, globalization does not go away as a concern for world literature just because it greatly complicates it” (5). We cannot turn against the world, and yet, simultaneously, globalization as an instrument for cultural loss ought to be resisted. We must have a worlding of theory and literature, while at the same time rejecting the world in its globalizing sense

A Journal Entry about Developing a Street Theatre Play for Amnesty Luxembourg Related to the Subject of the Intersection Between Human Rights and Climate Change

    Get PDF
When I wrote Street Theatre plays for Amnesty Luxembourg 15 years ago, the group I worked with was constant over three or four years. Now, I can’t keep the same participants for more than a matter of months. I’ve seen a Syrian participate drop out because he finally found a job, an Iranian participant drop out because her mother in Tehran is ill and she can’t risk having an Iranian border controller find something in her record that associates her with Amnesty International, and tragically a Luxembourger trumpet player who accompanied the song that began and ended our 2024 street play on human rights needed to drop out after a diagnosis of terminal cancer. These are all understandable reasons. The new recruits have to agree to stay in the group until we’ve performed in the city on July 1, 2025. I’ve no plans for long-term theatre projects; it is a compromise. I don’t know why people are shy about joining a theatre group that promotes human rights. Present-day Amnesty members prefer to write letters protesting unfair incarceration or to participate in women’s day or LGBTQ marches – extremely important activities, but they involve less private initiative

Existence, uniqueness and continuous dependence results of coupled system of Hilfer fractional stochastic pantograph equations with nonlocal integral conditions

    Get PDF
This study explores the existence, uniqueness, and continuous dependence of solutions for coupled system of Hilfer fractional stochastic pantograph equations with nonlocal integral conditions. The existence of solutions is demonstrated using topological degree theory for condensing maps. The uniqueness is established via Banach’s contraction principle. To address continuous dependence, the generalized Gronwall inequality is applied. Additionally, a numerical example is provided to illustrate and confirm the theoretical findings. On the 100th Anniversary of the Birth of András Benkő – Church Music Research –

    Get PDF
This hereby study was written on the occasion of a conference commemorating the 100th anniversary of the birth of music historian András Benkő. Although the teaching and research of music history were central to his work, this paper focuses on only one aspect of it, namely his research and teaching in the field of Protestant church music, which is particularly noteworthy. His scientific work aimed at the exploration of sacred music manuscripts and the dissemination of the vocal material of early Protestant publications can be considered as a groundbreaking and addressing a gap of knowledge within the Transylvania area. His studies and reviews, published in scholarly volumes and journals, have provided a significant body of literature for pastors, cantors and religious education teachers working in Transylvania. His efforts to provide musical material for cantors in the field of vocal and instrumental ministry in churches and to raise the standard of cantorial training in the region remain exemplary to this day
