Portability of Predictive Academic Performance Models: An Empirical Sensitivity Analysis

    No full text
Artículos en revistas-The portability of predictive models of academic performance has been widely studied in the field of learning platforms, but there are few studies in which the results of previous evaluations are used as factors. The aim of this work was to analyze portability precisely in this context, where preceding performance is used as a key predictor. Through a study designed to control the main confounding factors, the results of 170 students evaluated over two academic years were analyzed, developing various predictive models for a base group (BG) of 39 students. After the four best models were selected, they were validated using different statistical techniques. Finally, these models were ap-plied to the remaining groups, controlling the number of different factors with respect to the BG. The results show that the models’ performance varies consistently with what was expected: as they move away from the BG (fewer common characteristics), the specificity of the four models tends to decrease.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Psychological intervention to promote forgiveness (REACH-FoR) to work with refugee populations: adaptation and validation

After injustices and aggressions, people have two major trends of response: revenge or avoidance. In both cases people face many difficulties in recovery. Psychology has been studying for the last few decades a third possible response: forgiveness. Far from giving up the search for justice, it is a way to pave the path to build a new life that is not rooted in hatred or fear, and to be able to walk reconciled with life experiences. From this approach we chose the REACH intervention to promote forgiveness (Worthington, 2007) and adapted it for refugees and asylum seekers through a Community-based participatory research counting on the refugee community expertise to identify relevant issues that should be considered when delivering this intervention.info:eu-repo/semantics/draf

This doctoral thesis is divided into two parts. The first examines the system of collective redress mechanisms for consumer protection existing in Spain, and the second deals with the aspects of international jurisdiction (IJ) in matters of collective redress. Both parts maintain a common line of analysis: the interest of consumers that this instrument is intended to protect. In the first part, the procedure for collective consumer protection is entirely analyzed, mentioning the cross-border aspects when necessary, but focusing on the most relevant national substantive and procedural elements. Both existing and proposed law are addressed with a broad analysis of existing case law in this area. In the second part, we study the IJ at three levels: the IJ rules contained in conventional rules, European Union law and internally produced private international law rules. A particularly extensive study is carried out, due to its relevance and application, of European Union law and, specifically, of the aspects of the qualification of the collective action by the Court of Justice of the European Union, as well as the accommodation of collective redress in the different forums of jurisdiction: special, protective and general. The same analysis is carried out on the basis of internal Private international law rules

The Covid-19 pandemic has shown our profound interdependence with the biosphere and our shared common destiny. In this context, the present article explores, from the current level of knowledge, how “human health” is deeply related to “nature's health”, building on the emerging “One health” concept. The interdisciplinary character of the “One health” perspective, and the invitation of Pope Francis to engage in a meaningful cultural dialogue, makes a compelling case for a shared inquiry between conservation biologists and theologians. We argue that both disciplines aim at preserving our only common homeinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Covid19 as a trigger for new ways of internationalizing teaching Operations Management

Capítulos en librosDuring the last decades there is an interest in internationalizing Higher Education (HE), and many initiatives are taken in and out of campus. Covid19 pandemic has impacted globally in all sectors, being HE one of them: restriction of exchange options for students and professors, limited presence courses, etc. Thus, Covid19 pandemic has become a trigger to find new ways to continue internationalizing HE. This paper presents the case study of an internationalization initiative on teaching Operations Management in a master program, consisting of a group project to study operations location decisions, involving students from three countries: Spain, China and Indonesia. Learning objectives were established based on lessons learned in Operations as well as in intercultural experiences. Surveys with participants have been conducted to evaluate the learning outcomes. Findings reveal that: (i) students considered the experience as highly positive; (ii) intercultural experience started as a non-evident challenge and ended as an added value activity; (iii) it allowed them to acquire some competences that are appreciated by the labour market; (iv) key success factors were identified; and (v) proposals for improvement were provided.During the last decades there is an interest in internationalizing Higher Education (HE), and many initiatives are taken in and out of campus. Influence of the Spatial Heterogeneities in the existence of positive solutions of Logistic BVPs with sublinear mixed boundary conditions

In this paper we analyze the influence of the spatial heterogeneities in the existence of positive solutions of Logistic problems with heterogeneous sublinear boundary conditions. We will show that the relative positions of the vanishing sets of the potentials in front of the nonlinearities in the partial differential equation and on the boundary conditions, play a crucial role as for the amplitude of the range of values of the bifurcation parameter for which the problems possess positive solutions. We will compare the cases of the logistic problem with linear and nonlinear boundary conditions. Also, we will show the global bifurcation diagram of positive solutions of the logistic problem with heterogeneous nonlinear boundary conditions , considering the amplitude of the nonlinearity in the boundary conditions as bifurcation-continuation parameter.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
