The effects of dexmedetomidine on liver injury in rats with experimental sepsis: A histopathological and immunohistochemical study Deneysel sepsis oluşturulan sıçanlarda deksmedetomidinin karaciğer hasarı üzerine etkileri: Histopatolojik ve immünohistokimyasal bir çalışma
BACKGROUND: In the rat sepsis model, the protective effect of dexmedetomidine (Dex) in sepsis-induced tissue injuries by reduc-ing inflammation is still unclear. Research is ongoing to determine whether Dex modulates sepsis-induced tissue injury. The aim of this experimental study was to investigate the effect of Dex on liver injury in sepsis rats histopathologically and immunohistochemically. METHODS: In this study, sepsis was induced in rats by a 10 ml/kg E. coli injection, and the protective efficacy of Dex against liver damage was investigated through histopathological and immunohistochemical findings by the intraperitoneal administration of 100 μg/ kg Dex. RESULTS: In our results, the most striking and basic morphological changes in the liver tissues of sepsis group rats were neutrophil leukocyte infiltrations in and around the vessels. In Dex-treated groups, neutrophil leukocyte infiltrations were more prominent, and marked dilatations were observed in the vessels. The fact that inflammatory reactions were more prominent in the Dex-treated groups was thought to be related to the increase in vascular permeability due to Dex's vasodilation effect. CONCLUSION: According to the histopathological and immunohistochemical findings obtained in the present study, we conclude that Dex did not alleviate sepsis-induced liver inflammation in a rat sepsis model
Natural Diversity of Crataegus monogyna Jacq. in Northeastern Türkiye Encompassing Morphological, Biochemical, and Molecular Features
Hawthorn (Cratageus monogyna Jacq.), one of the important wild fruit species in Turkey, is an important fruit species in many countries due to its use in traditional medicine, landscaping studies, and the food and beverage industry. In this study, morphological characterization revealed significant variation among genotypes, with fruit weight ranging from 0.55 g to 2.87 g, fruit width from 9.74 mm to 18.39 mm, and leaf width from 19.53 mm to 41.19 mm. Genotype-dependent variations were observed in the total phenolic content (151.34 mg–491.88 mg GAE 100 g−1 flesh), the total flavonoid content (16.74–48.13 mg CAE 100 g−1 flesh), the total anthocyanin content (26.34–79.79 mg cyn-3 gluc 100 g−1 flesh), and the antioxidant activity (29.20% to 56.70%). HPLC-based phenolic profiling identified substantial variations in key bioactive compounds, with the highest levels of chlorogenic acid (16.16 mg 100 g−1 fw), caffeic acid (10.21 mg 100 g−1 fw), epicatechin (13.83 mg 100 g−1 fw), rutin (74.05 mg 100 g−1 fw), and protocatechuic acid (2.00 mg 100 g−1 fw). ISSR marker-based molecular analysis revealed a high degree of genetic polymorphism (89.12%), with 55 out of 62 bands classified as polymorphic. The polymorphic information content values ranged from 0.34 to 0.44. The Jaccard similarity coefficient ranged from 0.04 (M9 and M16) to 0.63 (M17 and M3), indicating substantial genetic variability. The tanglegram analysis comparing genetic and morphological–biochemical dendrograms yielded an entanglement score of 0.714, indicating an alignment between molecular and phenotypic data. These findings show that hawthorn genotypes from the Kelkit Valley exhibit extensive genetic and biochemical diversity, which is critical for conservation efforts, breeding programs, and the development of high-value medicinal and functional food products
The Influence of Wool Pellet Application on Alleviating Salt-Induced Stress in Soybean (<i>Glycine max</i> L.)
Soil salinity is a pervasive challenge in agricultural regions, significantly impacting plant growth and productivity. Addressing the adverse implications of soil salinization and capitalizing on organic waste resources has the potential to yield substantial advancements in the agricultural sector. This study examined the influence of varying levels of wool pellets (0, 1%, 2%, and 4%) and salt (0, 25, 50, and 100 mM) on the physiological and biochemical properties of soybean (Glycine max L.). The findings revealed that compared to the control group, at a 4% application rate, plant length decreased by 20%, while stem dry weight, root length and weight showed no significant differences up to a 2% application. Compared to the control treatment, the 4% application rate resulted in an increase of 6% in leaf temperature, 55% in NBI, 12% in chlorophyll content, and 10% in MDA activity. Conversely, the TAA, TPC, and carotenoid content decreased by 55%, 51%, and 81%, respectively. Salt applications led to reductions in most studied morphological parameters, except for root properties. Compared to the control, plant length, stem fresh weight, and stem dry weight decreased by 14%, 22%, and 14%, respectively, while root length, root fresh weight, and root dry weight increased by 18%, 33%, and 50%, respectively.</p
Exploring the Complete Chloroplast Genomes of Key Lamiaceae Species Uncovers the Secrets of Evolutionary Dynamics and Phylogenetic Relationships
study aimed to conduct a comprehensive comparative analysis of chloroplast genome architecture, gene content, and evolutionary relationships among five species of Lamiaceae (Lavandula angustifolia, Mentha × piperita, Ocimum × africanum, Salvia japonica, and Thymus serpyllum). Complete chloroplast genome sequences were retrieved from the NCBI database and analyzed using a systematic bioinformatics pipeline. Genome annotation was performed using Geneious Prime software, while repetitive sequence analysis was conducted using Tandem Repeats Finder. Phylogenetic relationships were reconstructed using MEGA software, implementing both the DualBrothers model and Neighbor-Joining method. The analyzed genomes exhibited the characteristic quadripartite structure, with sizes ranging from 152,048 to 153,995 base pairs and GC content between 37.8 and 38.0%. Each genome contained 131–134 genes, including 50 protein-coding sequences, 8 rRNA genes, and 37 tRNA genes. Comparative analysis revealed region-specific GC content variations, with IR regions showing the highest (43.0–43.4%), followed by LSC (35.9–36.2%) and SSC regions (31.6–32.1%). Codon usage analysis demonstrated a significant bias toward T/C-ending codons, particularly TTT, AAA, and AAT, correlating with the high AT content. Notable variations were observed at the LSC/IR/SSC junction regions, attributed to IR expansion and contraction. Molecular clock analyses indicated consistent evolutionary rates across the studied species. These findings provide valuable insights into the molecular evolution of Lamiaceae chloroplast genomes and establish a foundation for future research in plant molecular biology, systematic studies, and conservation efforts.</p
Experimental Analysis of Heat and Flow Characteristics on Inclined and Multiple Impingement Jet Heat Transfer Using Optimized Heat Sink
Thermal management at a high heat flux is crucial for electronic devices, and jet impingement cooling is a promising solution. The heat transfer properties of a rectangularf inned heat sink are investigated under angled and multi-impingement jet configurations in this study. Experiments were conducted with three different nozzle diameters, three different heat sink angles, three dimensionless nozzle-to-heat sink distance ratios, and five different velocity values. As a result, the obtained data are presented as Nu-Re graphs, and the impacts of the parameters on heat transfer (HT) are analyzed. It is concluded that the Nusselt number increases with the increasing nozzle diameter and Reynolds number, whereas it decreases with increasing distance between the nozzle and the heat sink. Whencomparing the angle values under an identical flow velocity, nozzle diameter, and dimensionless h/ddistance experimental conditions, it was found that the Nusselt numbers were very close to each other. Under constant heat flux and for all investigated angles, the highest Nusselt number for the rectangular-finned inclined heat sink was observed at a 10◦ heat sink inclination, a nozzle diameter of D = 40 mm, a dimensionless distance of h/d = 6, and a flow velocity of 9 m/s. This study deepens the understanding of the heat transfer mechanism of impinging jets and provides an efficient method framework for practical applications.</p
MİZAH ÇEKİCİLİĞİ OLAN REKLAMLARA YÖNELİKTUTUMUN SATINALMA NİYETİ ÜZERİNDEKİ ETKİSİNDEMARKA SADAKATİNİN DÜZENLEYİCİ ROLÜNÜN ARAŞTIRILMASI
Buaraştırmanın amacı, mizah çekiciliği olan reklamlara yönelik tüketici tutumununsatın alma niyeti üzerindeki etkisini ve bu etkide marka sadakatinindüzenleyici rolünü incelemektir. Araştırmada, nicel bir yöntem benimsenmiş veveri toplamak için anket tekniği kullanılmıştır. Veriler, Ülker Kestrareklamının videosunu izleyip değerlendiren katılımcılardan elde edilmiştir. Kartopu örnekleme yöntemiyle hedefkitleye ulaşılmıştır. Çalışmanın evrenini Türkiye’de yaşayanlaroluşturmaktadır. Çalışmanın örneklemi 403 kişiden oluşmaktadır. Elde edilen verilerin analiz edilmesiiçin yapısal eşitlik modellemesi ve Process Macro kullanılmıştır. Çalışmanınamacına ulaşması için farklı çalışmalardan elde edilen uygun ölçeklerdenfaydalanılmıştır. Araştırmadanelde edilen bulgulara göre, mizah çekiciliği olan reklamlara yönelik tutumunsatın alma niyeti ve marka sadakati üzerinde olumlu ve anlamlı bir etkisivardır. Mizah çekiciliği olan reklamlara yönelik tutumun satın alma niyetiüzerindeki etkisinde marka sadakatinin düzenleyici rolünün olmadığıgörülmüştür. Marka sadakatinin satın alma niyeti üzerinde olumlu ve anlamlı biretkisinin olduğu anlaşılmıştır. Çalışmanın sonuçlarına göre mizah çekiciliğiolan reklamlara yönelik olumlu tutum oluşturulması işletmeler açısındanönemlidir. Mizah reklamlarına yönelik olumlu tutum oluşturulması amacıyla,marka-ünlü uyumu, hedef kitlenin mizah anlayışına yönelik reklamlarhazırlanması gibi hususlara dikkat edilmesi önerilmektedir. </p
The Effects of Epinephrine, Norepinephrine and Dopamine on Hemogram and Coagulation Parameters
Introduction: Vasopressor agents stimulate endothelial cells and platelets via the sympathetic nervous system and affect the coagulation cascade through various mediators. This study aimed to investigate the effects of epinephrine, norepinephrine, and dopamine on hemogram and coagulation parameters. Materials and Methods: A total of 28 healthy Wistar albino rats weighing 250-300 grams were used in this study. The rats were randomly divided into four groups, with 7 in each group. 0.9 % serum physiologic (group C, n=7), epinephrine (group E, n=7), norepinephrine (group NE, n= 7), dopamine (group D, n=7) were intraperitoneally perfused to the rats under sedation. Blood samples were draw n from the rats 30 minutes after perfusion. Hemogram and coagulation parameters were compared between the groups. Results: Granulocyte values were lower in the dopamine group. Platelet cluster count was higher in the dopamine group. The highest hemoglobin and hematocrit values measured among the groups were observed in Group E, and its values were higher than those in the norepinephrine and control groups. Conclusion: It has been determined that vasopressor drugs affect hemogram values and platelet aggregation in different ways, but do not cause any changes in coagulation parameters
