    Bruceshield: Internet of things integrated biometric and food detection system to eradicate brucellosis milk contamination

    Background: Brucellosis is a zoonotic infectious disease caused by the bacteria of the genus Brucella spp. that causes abortion and chronic disease in animals and humans, resulting in economic losses worldwide. Brucellosis remains endemic in ruminant livestock in Indonesia, with a prevalence rate of 40% in ruminants and the highest incidence of cases is in Java Island. Vaccination, livestock movement monitoring, and diagnostic methods such as PCR can prevent this disease, but those methods are challenged by cost and a lack of trained personnel. Methods: The methodology used in this article is a literature review. Design ideas were identified from various international and national journal literature with the main focus on test methods consisting of Multiple Cross Displacement Amplification - Lateral Flow Biosensor (MCDA-LFB) test, Retinal Biometric system, Static QR-Code system, and Internet of Things (IoT). Findings: Bruceshield is a complete entity combining animal retinal biometrics, food detection using MCDA-LFB technology, and IoT for accurate identification, rapid detection, and effective data collection of IoT-ready devices. Some of these methods include MCDA-LFB for DNA analysis, retinal biometric systems for animal identification, and static QR codes that report parasite detection and enable traceability to the consumer in dairy products. Conclusion: Bruceshield presents an innovative solution to support the vision of 'Brucellosis Free Indonesia 2025' by integrating advanced diagnostic and monitoring systems, contributing to Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) number 3 and the One Health paradigm. This system holds the potential to enhance disease prevention, improve livestock traceability, and promote transparency and safety within the dairy and livestock industry. Novelty/Originality of this article: This study introduces Bruceshield, an integrated system combining retinal biometrics, MCDA-LFB technology, and IoT for accurate livestock identification, rapid disease detection, and effective data collection.

    Temporal dynamics and geomorphological influences on plastic waste accumulation

    Background: Plastic waste is a significant global environmental issue and constitutes the dominant type of marine debris. Its durability, lightness, and stability make plastic widely used in daily life, but its degradation process takes an extremely long time. Teluk Laikang, located in Mangarabombang Subdistrict, Puntondo Hamlet, Takalar Regency, serves as both a coastal tourism destination and a site for seaweed cultivation. This study aims to quantify the amount, weight, and composition of stranded plastic waste at Teluk Laikang Beach over a specific observation period and to analyze the accumulation rates influenced by the geomorphology and oceanographic conditions of the area. Methods: The study utilized a shoreline survey method with an accumulation survey type. This method involves regular monitoring of the same stretch of coastline, which was initially cleaned, to record changes in the amount, weight, and composition of plastic waste over time. Direct field measurements were carried out to assess current speed and direction, wave height, and beach slope. Findings: The study identified a total of 709 plastic waste items weighing 3,584 grams in Teluk Laikang. Statistical analysis using repeated measures ANOVA revealed significant differences in plastic accumulation rates based on lunar phases. Pairwise comparisons showed that the highest accumulation rates occurred during the full moon phase, with an average of 0.00063 items/m²/week and 0.00841 grams/m²/week. Conversely, the lowest rates were recorded during the first-quarter moon phase, with an average of 0.00023 items/m²/week and 0.00082 grams/m²/week. The most dominant type of plastic waste during the observation period was drink bottles smaller than 2 liters (PL02). Novelty/Originality of this Article: This study provides a detailed analysis of plastic waste accumulation in a semi-enclosed coastal area influenced by geomorphological and oceanographic factors. By focusing on the temporal variation of waste deposition, the research highlights the critical role of natural cycles in plastic waste distribution

    Background: The relocation of the capital city of Indonesia (Ibu Kota Negara/IKN) to the island of Kalimantan presents new challenges concerning national security, particularly in addressing terrorism threats in border regions. These threats can potentially disrupt national stability and development, necessitating serious attention from the government and stakeholders. This research aims to explore the application of remote sensing technology in monitoring terrorism threats in Indonesia's border regions and to formulate more effective prevention strategies. Method: This research explores the application of remote sensing technology in monitoring terrorism threats in Indonesia's border regions and formulates more effective prevention strategies. The study employed brainstorming analysis to gather diverse perspectives based on relevant references and scientific journals, organizing these into an analytical framework. Combining brainstorming methods with scientific journal references enriched the research process while enhancing the validity and reliability of findings, allowing for comprehensive, evidence-based recommendations that contribute significantly to policy development and field practices. Findings: Findings indicate that the geographical location of the new capital, being close to the border, may increase security risks. The application of remote sensing technology can significantly enhance early detection capabilities for suspicious activities along borders. By providing more efficient real-time monitoring, these systems facilitate timely interventions and aid in predicting potential terrorism risks through advanced geospatial analysis. Conclusion: The results of this study have significant implications for national security strategic planning, emphasizing the need for technology integration into defense systems and counter-terrorism efforts, as well as enhancing international cooperation in maintaining security in border areas.  Novelty/Originality of this article: This study provides a novel approach to national security in the context of Indonesia's capital relocation by examining the potential of remote sensing technology for terrorism threat monitoring in border regions

    Vegetation resilience and environmental impact following industrial mud eruption: Spatial distribution analysis

    Background: Hot mudflows from Lapindo Sidoarjo are often released consistently from cracks in the soil layer and begin to submerge the surrounding land cover, such as houses, school buildings, factories, agricultural land, and vegetation. Lapindo hot mud is hot volcanic mud that comes out due to cracks in the soil layer in Siring Village, Porong District, Sidoarjo Regency and has been researched to contain heavy metal compounds and high temperatures. This causes changes in vegetation biodiversity in the Lapindo mud region. This research aims to analyze the influence of the distance to the center of the Lapindo Sidoarjo mudflow on the physical characteristics of the environment and the spatial distribution of surrounding vegetation. Methods: The method used is the transect method for taking vegetation samples and snowball sampling for taking informants to support vegetation conditions in the research area. The observation and interview data obtained were then processed and analyzed quantitatively descriptively using multiple linear regression. Findings: The analysis carried out shows that the distance from the center of the burst does not have a significant influence on the distribution of air temperature and surface temperature. However, the distance from the center of the spray influences the acidity (pH) of the soil with an influence percentage of 41.2%. In statistical analysis, it was also proven that the physical characteristics of the Lapindo mud region did not affect the diversity of life form types. Apart from that, the analysis carried out in this research also produced six types of vegetation life forms consisting of herbs, bushes, trees, vines, epiphytes, and aquatic, which were distributed randomly throughout the research area in the form of the Lapindo muddy area. Conclusion: The existence of vegetation life forms is not determined by the physical characteristics of the Lapindo mud region but is influenced by the relative location characteristics, such as aquatic vegetation that grows due to the presence of water bodies and herbaceous vegetation that can grow on any open land. Novelty/Originality of this article: It can be concluded that the emergence of the Lapindo hot mud phenomenon in Sidoarjo only affects soil acidity. Moreover, this phenomenon does not have a significant influence on the spatial distribution of surrounding vegetation

    Ecosystem-based mangrove conservation strategies and the role of communities for sustainable management

    ​​​Background: Mangrove ecosystems provide essential ecological, economic, and social benefits but face significant degradation from human and natural pressures. This study analyzes ecosystem-based conservation strategies in Muara Gembong District, focusing on integrating conservation with sustainable economic activities. Methods: A qualitative descriptive approach was employed through literature reviews and field observations, examining ecotourism and silvofishery systems, community involvement, and institutional capacity. Findings: Results highlight the importance of community participation in mangrove conservation through ecotourism and silvofishery systems. Key challenges include economic pressures, sectoral conflicts, weak institutional capacity, and limited technology. Collaboration among stakeholders, supported by education and policy reinforcement, is essential for success. Conclusion: A holistic approach combining ecological, social, and economic aspects is vital for sustainable mangrove conservation in Muara Gembong. Novelty/Originality of this article: This study integrates ecological, social, and economic dimensions into a cohesive conservation strategy, emphasizing community participation and collaborative governance.&nbsp

    Growth responses of cherry tomato plants (Solanum lycopersicum L.) under elevated temperature and different nitrogen doses

    Background: Cherry tomatoes are one of the horticultural crops that can potentially be cultivated with household farming systems to fulfil the food supply. The increasing global temperature caused by climate change makes growing cherry tomato plants challenging. Besides that, nitrogen efficiency in the cultivating process of cherry tomato plants is crucial. This study aims to know the growth responses of cherry tomato plants in temperature and nitrogen doses. Methods: A completely randomized design with two factors was used for this study. The first factor was the temperature (normal and high-temperature treatment). The second factor was the nitrogen doses (55 ppm, 110 ppm, and 165 ppm). Observations of growth characteristics included plant height, leaf number, stem diameter, root length, root fresh weight, root dry weight, root-shoot ratio, shoot fresh weight, shoot dry weight, plant canopy diameter, and growth index. Findings: On day 8, normal temperature was the best result for enhancing the number of leaves. Besides that, nitrogen 55 ppm was the most effective for increasing the number of leaves. Next, at day 20, normal temperature was the best result for increasing leaf number, stem diameter, root length, root fresh weight, root dry weight, shoot fresh weight, shoot dry weight, and growth index. Then, nitrogen 110 ppm + normal temperature was the most significant response of root-shoot ratio. Conclusion: Normal temperature and minimal nitrogen doses were the most effective conditions for enhancing the growth of cherry tomato plants.  Novelty/Originality of this article: This study examines cherry tomato plants' remarkable ability to grow at normal temperature and minimum nitrogen level

    Factors influencing presenteeism: The role of individual characteristics, job demands, and job insecurity in the workplace

    Background: Presenteeism affects both the quality and quantity of work, leading to decreased concentration, reduced performance, lower productivity, and increased costs, ultimately impacting organizational efficiency. This study explores the relationship between individual characteristics, job demands, and job insecurity with presenteeism among employees at PT X in 2024. Method: This research employs a cross-sectional study design, with data analyzed using the chi-square test. A purposive sampling method was used to select 90 employees from PT X. The study utilized the Stanford Presenteeism Scale-6 questionnaire, the Job Demands-Resources (JDR) model, and the job insecurity scale developed by Hellgren. Results: The findings of the study reveal that a significant number of employees displayed high levels of presenteeism. Specifically, 70 employees were identified as exhibiting this behavior, which represents 77.8% of the total employee population. This indicates that a large proportion of the workforce is physically present at work but not fully engaged or productive. Conclusion: The study concludes that job insecurity and gender are significantly associated with presenteeism. To address this issue, companies should enhance communication regarding policies, job status, and future organizational direction. Novelty/Originality of this Study: This study uniquely underscores the role of job insecurity and gender in presenteeism, offering valuable insights into workplace productivity. The findings suggest targeted interventions focusing on job security and transparent communication to mitigate presenteeism and improve overall employee well-being

    Transformational leadership style to improve the performance of health workers at penfui health center and bakunase health center

    Background: Transformational leadership style is a way used by a leader in influencing, directing, encouraging and controlling subordinates in order to achieve organizational goals efficiently and effectively which has the ability to inspire and motivate followers for mutual success. Based on an initial survey conducted at the Bakunase Health Center and Penfui Health Center, it appears that the style used by leaders is the interaction of leaders with their subordinates, but the transformation style has not been applied optimally so that it can be seen from 10 health workers, 2 of them have low performance. The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship between transformational leadership style and the performance of health workers at Bakunase Health Center and Penfui Health Center. Methods: This study employs a quantitative research design with a cross-sectional approach, utilizing purposive sampling to select 100 healthcare workers. Data were analyzed using the Chi-Square test. Findings: The findings reveal a significant relationship between transformational leadership and healthcare worker performance, with a p-value of 0.000 (p<0.05). These results indicate that transformational leadership is an essential factor in improving healthcare service quality and workforce efficiency. Conclusion: The study concludes that implementing transformational leadership practices can enhance nurse performance and healthcare service delivery. Novelty/Originality of this article: The novelty of this research lies in its empirical demonstration of the direct impact of transformational leadership on healthcare worker performance in a community health center setting, reinforcing the importance of leadership development in public health institutions

    The effect of dark triad leadership on emotional manipulation: The role of gender as moderator

    Background: Emotional intelligence is vital in organizations, but it can also lead to negative behaviors like emotional manipulation. This manipulation is linked to dark triad leadership (narcissism, machiavellianism, and psychopathy) and gender differences. Previous studies have shown inconsistent findings on how emotional manipulation relates to these traits and the role of gender, with some suggesting men are more prone to emotional manipulation. Methods: This study tests the effects of narcissism, machiavellianism, and psychopathy on emotional manipulation and examines gender as a moderator. Participants included 216 individuals from various organizations in Indonesia who were over 18 and had subordinates. The study used the Short Dark Triad (SD3) and Emotional Manipulation Scale (EMS), with data analyzed through multiple linear regression and Hayes' regression model 1.  Findings: The results showed that only machiavellianism and psychopathy significantly influenced emotional manipulation, while narcissism did not. Gender did not moderate the relationship between dark triad leadership and emotional manipulation. Conclusion: The study highlights that only certain dark triad traits contribute to emotional manipulation, and gender does not influence this relationship. Novelty/Originality of the Study: This research offers a clearer understanding of how specific dark triad traits influence emotional manipulation in the workplace, with gender playing no moderating role. It challenges previous assumptions about gender differences in emotional manipulation, providing new insights for leadership studies

    Green open space planning based on spatial justice in Jakarta: Study of child friendly integrated public spaces/RPTRA and general green open space

    Background: Urbanization has significantly reduced green open spaces in Jakarta, impacting ecological balance and quality of life. While the importance of green open spaces for urban quality of life is well understood, comprehensive studies on spatial justice related to the distribution and accessibility of green open spaces in major cities like Jakarta are still limited. This study aims to assess the distribution, accessibility, and government budget allocation for public green open spaces in South Jakarta, with a focus on spatial justice and equitable access. Method: Using GIS software, this study assesses the distribution and accessibility of urban green spaces, conducts descriptive analysis on government budget allocation, and evaluates justice in public green space planning in South Jakarta. Findings: Despite the overall availability of green open space in South Jakarta meeting the standard of 0.2 m²/capita, the sub-districts of Pasar Minggu and Pesanggrahan still exhibit gaps in availability, and accessibility uneven trough all South Jakarta. Conclusion: Moreover, the budget allocated by the government for green spaces is relatively low compared to the total budget of DKI Jakarta. Green open space planning in the City of South Jakarta has not yet fully achieved spatial justice. This is influenced by the insufficient number, area and distribution to reach all regions and accommodate all levels of society. Novelty/Originality of This Article: This study highlights spatial injustice in the distribution and accessibility of green open spaces in South Jakarta using GIS analysis, revealing disparities despite meeting per capita standards and inadequate government budget allocation
