Schools survey - health and well-being of S1-S4 pupils in new learning community schools in Glasgow City West Community Health Partnership final report
No full textIn 2007, some 9,246 secondary school pupils (S1-S4) across 27 Glasgow City schools completed a health and wellbeing survey questionnaire. This represents nearly 50% of the S1-S4 roll in Glasgow City. The study was commissioned by NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde and carried out by the SCRE centre at University of Glasgow. The aims of the study were to provide information which could be used to inform developments within each individual school/New Learning Community and also to provide a baseline of pupil health and wellbeing data against which future progress can be measured

Get PDFDisability within the Chinese community can be associated with cultural taboos including stigma and a lack of understanding can isolate both carers and the cared for. There is reluctance to access services due to a lack of knowledge about what is available from key providers. This results in extra burden being placed on carers and families without adequate respite or additional support from organisations.
The storytelling competition provided an avenue for those with a disability or a caring role to share their own personal experiences

Get PDFProject empower has been set up to improve the accessibility, effectiveness and sensitivity of mainstream services in response to the needs of South Asian and Chinese disabled women and/or their carers living in Glasgow.
In order to meet the targets, Project Empower felt that it was important to raise awareness of issues faced by South Asian disabled people and carers. Anila Ansari, the South Asian Development Officer of Project Empower presented a series of twelve programmes on Awaz FM which is a Glasgow based South Asian communities radio station. The writing competition was broadcast alongside other programmes from Awaz FM to the South Asian communities.
The competition was announced in November 2007 and the deadline for submission of the competition entries was the end of January 2008. The competition was open to anyone as long as the submissions highlighted the issues faced by South Asian disabled people and their carers. The
submission could be in various forms, e.g. a poem, short story or essay. The contest entrants had the choice of submitting their entries in different South Asian languages or in English. The participants could write about their own experiences as well as an achievement that could be of inspiration to others

•Demographics – including age, gender, deprivation category, ethnicity, feeder primary, carer/guardian with whom pupils have main residence;
•Mental health, self esteem, locus of control, worries;
•Bullying, racism, accidents, illness and disability;
•Oral health, diet, exercise and travel;
•Smoking, alcohol, drugs;
•Awareness and use of – health services, youth clubs, Childline;
•Antisocial behaviour, carer status and future hopes
