    No full text
The requirement for efficient and sustainable urban environments has made energy management in smart buildings a crucial topic of research and development in recent years. This study targets gaps in energy management research by dynamically choosing the best ventilation devices (AC, fans, windows) based on the changeable environmental factors like temperature, humidity, and wind speed using reinforcement learning thus elevating energy management in smart buildings. The ML model was trained via reinforcement learning (RL), with a fuzzy control scoring system designed to take the consequent user satisfaction and power cost of the device selected by the model based on the weather conditions (temperature, humidity, and wind speed), to grade the selection during training. Moreover, verification of the model's decision-making mechanism was executed by an integrated simulation platform through case studies showing their applicability in typical and extreme conditions. The proposed system proved the capability of understanding the weather state to select the optimal device to turn on for the lowest power cost and highest user satisfaction in the building. This supports the United Nations (UN) sustainable development goals (SDGs) by promoting sustainable, cost-efficient energy use and improved living standards

Mediating effect of food disgust between depression/anxiety and avoidant restrictive eating.

    No full text
Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID) is an eating disorder characterized by restrictive eating pattern behavior such as severe picky eating, fear of aversive consequences of eating, and lack of interest in food. Data about the subject is minimal and can be influenced by food disgust and mental health issues like anxiety or depression. Therefore, this research explores whether feeling of disgust towards food help explain the link between ARFID symptoms, anxiety and depression in a group of Lebanese adults. This study took place between September and December 2024 using a cross-sectional design. A total of 396 participants (mean age was 28.34 years; 26.5% females) were recruited using a snowball sampling method and completed an online self-administered questionnaire through Google Forms. The results of the mediation analysis indicate that food disgust partially mediates the association between depression/anxiety and ARFID symptoms. Higher depression and anxiety were highly associated with higher food disgust, whereas increased food disgust was crucially associated with increased ARFID symptoms. Finally, higher levels of depression and anxiety were significantly correlated to greater ARFID symptoms. The study emphasizes the relationship between food disgust on ARFID symptoms and anxiety in adults. Future research examining the connection between ARFID symptoms and anxiety in adults is essential for gaining deeper insight into the underlying mechanisms and for guiding the development of therapies that effectively target disgust-driven food aversions, and the importance of early emotional screening and individualized treatment to support nutritional rehabilitation. This study examined whether food disgust explains the link between anxiety, depression, and Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID) symptoms. Among 396 Lebanese adults, higher anxiety and depression were associated with greater food disgust, which in turn was linked to more severe ARFID symptoms. These findings suggest that treating food disgust, along with emotional screening and personalized treatment, may improve eating behaviors in individuals with mental health struggles

Background: Young doctors are struggling with extreme workplace stress due to inadequate working conditions, high patient load and low salaries in a faltering health care system of Pakistan. These conditions necessitate a focus on psycho- logical resilience factors such as hardiness and positive reinterpretation coping. This study investigates how optimism affects workplace stress through hardiness and positive reinterpretation coping using a serial mediation model. Understanding these psychological dynamics is vital for improving the well-being of doctors in under developed health care system. Objective: The objective of the study is to explore the serial mediating role of hardiness and positive reinterpretation coping in the association between optimism and workplace stress among young doctors of Pakistan. Method: Purposive sampling was used to select 200 young house job doctors from public hospitals of Lahore, Pakistan. Self-report questionnaires like Life Orientation Test-Revised, Personal Views Survey (3rd Edition), Coping Orientation to Problem Experienced and Work place stress scale were used to assess the optimism, hardiness, positive reinterpretation, and work place stress of the participants. All the ethical considerations were taken into account while collecting data and reporting ndings. Data was analyzed using SPSS and AMOS. Results: Findings of Pearson Product Moment Correlation indicated that optimism is positively related with hardiness (r = .32, p < .001) and positive reinterpretation (r = .35, p < .001), and negatively associated with work place stress. Additionally, hardiness was positively linked with positive reinterpretation (r = .46, p < .001). Furthermore, ndings also suggest signi cant negative association of optimism (r =−.24, p < .001), hardiness (r =−.51, p < .001), and positive reinterpretation (r =−.41, p < .001) with work place stress. Findings of SEM suggested that CFI, GFI, TLI, NFI, SRMR, and RMSEA values indicated the model tness. The serial mediating role of hardiness and positive reinterpretation in the association of optimism and work place stress was also signi cant as the indirect effect was (b=−.07, p= <.01). Conclusion: The present research emphasized the sequential interaction of optimism, hardiness, positive reinterpret- ation and work place stress that advances our knowledge to understand stress management. These ndings can be useful in counseling and training of house-job doctors working in unprivileged circumstances

Background: Caring for individuals with mental illness can be emotionally and physically demanding, often leading to high levels of stress and psychological distress among caregivers. Objective: This study is aimed at investigating the relationship between stress, psychological distress, and cognitive coping strategies in caregivers of patients with depressive disorders in Pakistan. Method: Four hundred fifty adult caregivers (above 18 years of age; Mage = 37 11, SDage = 12 63), both men (60%) and women (40%), of the patients suffering from depression and related disorders, completed the Kessler Psychological Distress Scale, Washington University Caregiver’s Stress Scale, Cognitive Emotion Regulation Questionnaire, and a demographic sheet. Results: Results of the Pearson product–moment correlation showed that caregiver stress is significantly associated with psychological distress and cognitive coping strategies. All the maladaptive cognitive coping strategies had a significant positive relationship with psychological distress. Findings also revealed that maladaptive cognitive emotion regulation strategies (catastrophizing and others blame) significantly mediated the relationship between caregiver stress and psychological distress. Findings of the independent sample t-test showed that women experienced more psychological distress and stress related to caregiving as compared to men, while men accepted the adverse situations earlier than women and used a more adaptive coping strategy (putting into perspective). Conclusion: In conclusion, caregivers of patients with mental illness face a complex and challenging journey marked by high levels of stress and psychological distress.Higher Education Comission Pakista
