Khams Tibetan vernacular spoken by Lisu in the Tibetosphere —Language situation in Buyapei Hamlet, Xiaruo Township, Deqin County—
Get PDFapplication/pdfThere are inhabitants of various non-Tibetan ethnic minorities in the Tibetosphere, especially in its eastern part. In this article, I discuss a Tibetic variety spoken by Lisu living in Buyapei Hamlet, Xiaruo Township, Deqin County, Diqing Prefecture, Yunnan Province, China, including a brief word list of local Khams Tibetan and Lisu (137 entries), preceded by an introduction to some background information of Lisu people and their language situation in Buyapei Hamlet.
I further attempt to discuss the dialect subgrouping of the Buyapei [sPangyagphel] dialect of Khams Tibetan with a limited amount of data by comparing it with materials of other surrounding dialects. The result of two analyses of the sound correspondence with Written Tibetan and the word form shows that the Buyapei dialect is closely related to vernaculars in the vicinity, which can consequently be considered as a dialect belonging to the East Yunling Mountain subgroup of the Sems-kyi-nyila group.articl
