No full textThe purpose of the study: to investigate the attitudes of Lithuanian population about the most important political, social and economic issues during the rapid transformation of society and state.
Major investigated questions: respondents were asked whether they had sufficient knowledge of rising prices, government work, compensation arrangements, economic reforms, privatization, investment vouchers, unemployment benefits, and charity and welfare opportunities. The question blocks were used to find out how the diet of respondents and their families had changed as prices rose and whether the certain products and food prices increased too much. It was further asked whether the rise of prices was upsetting and how they intended to adapt to rising prices. How respondents and their families deal with money and what they think about price increase as citizens. The respondents were asked how to deal with the loss-making nature of children's clothing and footwear. It was asked how it plans to use the received benefits (investment checks), as it is planned to sell out 2/3 of the state property and what part of its savings they intend to spend on privatization of the state property. After asking the block of questions the respondents assessed the increase of energy tariffs (prices). Further it was also posed questions what TV channels respondents can see at home, which of the mentioned channels respondents watch most often and how much they trust them. It was asked whether they were not afraid that in the conditions of a market economy the family of the respondents could find themselves in the group of poor, poorly supplied families and what should be the minimum subsistence level set by the state in Lithuania, i.e. what minimum income per month should be guaranteed to a family member, each person (in USSR rubbles). Respondents were asked whether they were satisfied with the financial situation of their family and how much money each family member spent on average per month. It was wanted to know which problems of Lithuania should be solved first of all. Respondents further assessed the activities of the Lithuanian Social Democratic Party, the Lithuanian Democratic Labour Party, and the Lithuanian Communist Party. It was posed question to know whether they had ever thought that they were not only Lithuanian (Russian, Polish, etc.), but also European. Respondents were asked whether they had heard the terms "European Community", "European Economic Community" and "single market" and whether they knew what they meant. Moreover, respondents were asked to find out their views on the efforts to unite Western Europe and Lithuania's accession to the European Community in the future. Finally, after listing the representatives of the other countries, they were asked to indicate how much they trusted them.

Number of Population in Counties in Latvia, 1919-1939
No full textThis dataset contains two data tables on number of population in counties in Latvia in 1919-1939.
In the data table LiDA_HistatData_0245_Data_0001_v2 data of number of male, female and total in the cells (1920-1924, 1931, 1936-1939 by administrative region) is computed by interpolating data published in Latvian statistical publications (a more detailed description of is provided in the document LiDA_HistatData_0245_Interpolation_0001_v1.pdf).
The data table LiDA_HistatData_0245_Data_0002_v1 of the mid-year population data is computed by interpolated population data. Mid-year population data is arithmetic mean of the population of two consecutive years (data of beginning or end of the year) (a more detailed description of is provided in the document LiDA_HistatData_0245_Interpolation_0002_v1.pdf). The aim of such an computation was to have standardized data for the mid-year population data.

The purpose of the study: assess the opinion of the Lithuanian population on the issues relevant to the society during the rapid political, social, and economic transformation in the country.
Major investigated questions: respondents were asked whether they follow the work of the session of the Supreme Council of the Lithuanian SSR (started on November 23, 1989) and whether they talk to colleagues, acquaintances, family members about Sessions of the Supreme Council of the Lithuanian SSR. It was clarified whether they would like the sessions of the Supreme Council of the Lithuanian SSR to be shown on television in the future as well. Respondents then had the opportunity to evaluate the course of this AT session, its results, as well as the course of previous, autumn sessions and their results. It was asked whether they like the name of the Lithuanian legislator - the Supreme Council and whether the respondents would leave the same deputies in the Supreme Council of the Lithuanian SSR if they had the will. It was wanted to find out whether a deputy of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR from Lithuania could at the same time be a deputy of the Supreme Council of the Lithuanian SSR. Respondents had the opportunity to indicate what the monthly salary of deputies should be if they were to work only as deputies. It was asked whether the Lithuanian residents who took part in the survey liked the 3 minutes shown on the Lithuanian TV show "Mirror" in October. A humorous video about the work of the session. It was further sought to find out whether the respondents were satisfied with the financial situation of their family. It was asked if a person smokes and if so, how many cigarettes a day. Asked if he has a phone at home. It was asked which language of the respondents is their mother tongue and which languages they can still speak. The activities of various Lithuanian political forces and movements, M. Gorbachev's domestic policy, and A. Brazauskas as a political leader representing Lithuania's interests were further assessed. It was asked to answer for which party or movement a representative would vote in the next elections to the Supreme Soviet of the Lithuanian SSR. In the run-up to the extraordinary XX Congress of the LCP, which will discuss the reorganization of this organization, it was asked to answer the future of this party, its relations with the CPSU, and the status of the LCP in the elections. The dependence of the interviewed Lithuanian population on the CPSU was further inquired. Attitudes towards people that are unpunished for crimes committed during the Stalinist period and beyond. Respondents had the opportunity to indicate which holidays they would like to celebrate and when to have a day off. At the end of the survey, they were asked if they were afraid to go out alone to the street where they live at night.
