Albumul de fotografii – un memorator al vieții de familie
This study explores the meanings currently ascribed to family photographs and albums and aspects of photograph collecting and album making behaviour. Current ways of storing photographs are presented as well as highlighting perceptions of the durability over time of these new forms of storage. The study is exploratory in nature, based on empirical research through the conduct of ten (structured) interviews conducted between August and September 2021. The results of the study show the multitude of meanings attributed to family photo albums, namely: reminiscence of moments in family life, reconstruction of family biography, communication between generations, knowledge of ancestors (great-grandparents, grandparents, parents) in different stages of their lives, establishing a link with the past and building family identity, family history and, last but not least, emotional, nostalgic or joyful meanings, aspects that strengthen the family. At the same time, the study highlights new forms of photo preservation - the shift from print to digital photography, including digital albums. The research also reveals perceptions of the durability of digital albums over time by recognising both positive and negative aspects. The article contributes to the development of research on family photographs and albums in Romanian society, highlighting the importance of the family album and considering it as an object of sociological research

Social media influencerii și rolul lor publicitar. Tritonic Books, București, 2021. Delia Cristina Balaban și Julia Szambolics (coordonatori)
The advertising field is at the confluence of creativity and technology. Advertising is rapidly taking over digital platforms and incorporating new communication and information technologies. A recent evolution in this field is represented by the shift from endorsement and endorsers to influencers. Little has been written about influencers, at least in the Romanian context, although the advertising industry quickly turned to these new opinion leaders. The book coordinated by Delia Balaban and Julia Szambolics (professors and researchers at Babeș-Bolyai University in Cluj-Napoca) and published in 2021 by Tritonic Publishing House in Bucharest, under the title Social media influencers and their advertising role, is proof of a pioneering effort, through which the field of influencers is mapped
Developing Social Skills in Schools via Physical Education Programs: The Case of Israeli Male High School Students
This research proposal aims at studying the development of social skills among high school students through a multidisciplinary program that incorporates physical education and socialization lessons. The study will pursue a multidisciplinary approach by incorporating physical education classes and sports on the one hand with education for social skills on the other. Are students who are active or even participate in physical education classes more prone to develop their social skills than students who do not take part, or tend to remain passive or in these classes? Social skills include students’ ability to develop social communication, cooperation in a teamwork, self-discipline, assertiveness and social adaptation skills as influenced by their level of activity in physical education and sports classes. Students are also engaged in reflexive sports mediation. Reflexive mediation takes place during or after a sport session, during which students reflect (discuss and analyze) about events that took place during the sports session, and whether the action and reaction could or should have been done differently

‘Știu eu pe cineva’ Self-Organized Mobility, Labor Intermediation and the Twofold Exploitability of Romanian Workers in the Austrian Fresh Food Sector
The workings of expansive Romanian migration networks across Western Europe as forms of self-organized migration are well-documented. Yet, transnational relations have rarely been examined outside of Romanian migrant networks, namely in their potential source of value extraction in broader accumulation processes. This article thus attempts to look at the self-organization of mobility of Romanian workers - in particular, the practice of labor intermediation - in relation to its exploitation in highly segmented labor markets. In the following, I ethnographically substantiate the view that in my examined field site, the Austrian fresh food sector, it is precisely the self-organization of mobility among Romanian workers that became exploitable by Austrian growers in highly efficient ways. Based on findings from a year-long and ongoing ethnography in an Austrian greenhouse complex, I show how growers capitalize particularly on the practice of labor intermediation to maintain the resilience and profitability of local agricultural businesses in the restructured Austrian agricultural market. The resulting workplace regime constitutes workers in a twofold exploitability: not only is their labor power, but also their interpersonal relations subject to value extraction. This analysis implies the need to move beyond commonplace vocabularies of “social capital” to grasp the persistent exploitation of migrant workers and their reproductive capacities across segmented labor markets in Europe
Social Counselling as Policy Intervention: Mediating Welfare Benefit Claims of Romanians in Berlin
This paper examines the role of non-profit organizations (NPOs) in supporting welfare benefit claims by Romanian immigrants in vulnerable situations in Berlin. The study utilizes in-depth qualitative interviews with social counsellors, language mediators, and project leads to explore the function of social counselling offices in assisting these individuals. Social counselling is analysed as both an institutionalized policy intervention and a communicative practice focused on problem-solving. The paper highlights the power asymmetry between counsellor and advice-seeker stemming from the counsellor's superior knowledge of the welfare system, and German society. Social counselling acts as a means of support for individuals to navigate complex institutional arrangements and manage risks in modern society. However, the counsellor's authoritative role in shaping communication constitutes another dimension of power asymmetry. Faced with challenges such as complex legal regulations and limited resources, social counsellors emphasize the need for advice-seekers to gradually take responsibility for their own lives and interact with welfare institutions. This encouragement of self-sufficiency (orig. Ger. Selbstständigkeit) aligns with the principles of German workfare policies. Non-cooperation from advice-seekers in the context of social counselling can be therefore seen as a form of resistance against disciplinary power within the welfare state. The paper raises concerns about the long-term effectiveness and impact of social counselling, noting also the potential for burnout among social counsellors
