Burnout Among Romanian Healthcare Professionals: The Role of Work – Home Interference

    Get PDF
In a healthcare system decayed by inconsistent legislative changes we propose an investigation into the role of occupational factors in burnout development among a sample of Romanian healthcare professionals. Moreover, we aim to test the role of the negative influence of work upon private life in burnout development. Cross-sectional data was collected during April 2012 from a sample of 327 physicians and nurses in one county emergency hospital from Transylvania. Participants filled out 1) the MBI-GS, 2) the Questionnaire on the Experience and Evaluation of Work, and 3) the corresponding negative work-home interference scale from the Survey Work-Home Interaction Nijmegen. All scales had good psychometric properties. Structural equation modeling with Bootstrapping analysis was used to test the hypothesised relations. Multigroup analyses were computed to test model’s invariance. Results indicate that the model obtained an overall good fit: χ² (11) = 47.21, CFI = .95, NFI = .93, GFI = .96, and RMSEA = .10. Job demands predict both burnout (β=.59, p < .001) and work-home interference (β=.64, p < .001). Work-home interference partially mediates the job demands–burnout relation. Multigroup analyses confirmed that the model is invariant across age, medical speciality, and number of children under care. The present study brings evidence for the salient role of workhome interference in burnout development among healthcare professionals. Our results have implications in designing interventions focused on both reducing and preventing burnout in Romanian healthcare professionals

Facebook has proved to be an efficient means of political communication between citizens and politicians. On this virtual stage, political actors display their competence, consolidate their fame, mobilize their volunteers and attack their political opponents, encourage donations and debate some sensitive issues of the society. Citizens have the chance to get informed, to organize and to mobilize themselves for different causes or candidates, to participate in different events or elections campaigns. Our study will analyze the use of Facebook during the election campaign for the impeachment referendum (July 29, 2012). The analysis will focus on the posts made both by the pro-Băsescu citizens and by those that are against. The research questions addressed will focus on: a) the types of information posted by both opponent groups; b) the degree in which the Facebook accounts are used for acclaims, attacks or defenses; c) the time span during the election campaign in which „the dialogue” between the two groups gets more intense; d) the degree of interactivity between those who post the information and their „friends”. The research methods are functional analysis and content analysis. The two opponent groups sent their messages by the use of photographic images, verbal texts and advertising images. They used more attacks than acclaims, and had an intense activity during the middle and the end of the campaign. Their Facebook pages were interactive allowing the posting of appreciations, comments and the distribution of the materials posted

This analysis intends to capitalize the results of several case studies made during the past years within rural communities. These socio-economic diagnoses on community level had been done according to a multidimensional model; each of these was focused, according to the goals, mainly on one or other of the dimensions of the manner of defining the social development. The goal of integrating these study cases’ results is to make an analysis of the factors and mechanisms regulating the emergence and evolution of the social problems on community level and of the concrete and differential manners of functioning on local level of the socio-economic mechanisms with impact on the social development. A direction of analysis is haw impact of the structural factors of the development is regulated by the functioning of some contextual/local mechanisms and also the concrete manner of development of some development programs. On the other side we intend to identify the key-factors of the development and how these may function as strategically variables within a model of development adapted to the current realities of the Romanian rural communities

Social exclusion affects not only some social groups, that belongs to this category, but also the society as a whole. Hence, in order to ensure the community welfare, it is desirable to fight against social exclusion. In the first part of the paper, I have put forward the theoretical framework of the social exclusion. Next, I have illustrated a general overview of Romanians incomes after 1989, since their relevance is emphasized in most of the studies on social exclusion. I have examined the dynamics of incomes and I have pointed out the fluctuation of real incomes, as well as the magnitude of social groups confronted with this problem. I have continued with an analysis of the legal framework of social protection, in order to grasp the approach used to solve the lack of financial resources of the vulnerable groups. In the last part of the study, I have focused on the empirical analysis of the social exclusion determinants, in order to circumscribe from the social body the vulnerable parts. After I described the independent variables and operationalized the dependent variable, I have analyzed the available databases, by logistic regression analyses, and I have set forth the determinants of social exclusion, amongst the most important being families living in households with children, that increase the social exclusion, and a high level of education, that helps fight the social exclusion. Therefore, the paradigm of the social exclusion, which emphasizes the influence of the social and demographic characteristics of the individuals, it is proven to have a considerable explicative power

Ethnocentric Orientation of Polish and Romanian Consumers in the Light of CETSCALE Research

This article discusses the results of empirical research which determines the level of consumer ethnocentrism of Polish and Romanian citizens. The main source material has been obtained through direct interviews conducted in two cities: Rzeszow (Poland) and Oradea (Romania), on a sample of 800 respondents (of 400 people in each city), chosen in the quota way. The quotas were – gender, age and education. As a measuring instrument, international CETSCALE questionnaire translated into languages: Polish and Romanian has been used. In order to eliminate any inaccuracies in translation, which could cause lower effectiveness of a given measuring tool, the CETSCALE questionnaire was validated. The presented analyses show that Polish and Romanian consumers have ethnocentric tendencies. The obtained CETSCALE value is the proof – the respondents from Poland achieved 65,8 points, however, the Romanian ones were a little bit lower and had 60,5 points. The empirical studies also showed the influence of socio-economic factors on the level of consumer ethnocentrism among Polish and Romanian respondents. It turned out, that women from both countries tend to be more ethnocentric then men. Crucial differences have been noticed in the summary CETSCALE, in relation to three levels of Polish and Romanian consumers` education. The respondents with elementary and vocational education have much more negative attitude to imported products than the respondents who have secondary and higher education. It also results from the received data, that the elderly people in both questioned communities are characterized by stronger ethnocentric tendencies in relation to foreign products. Crucial dependencies have also been seen between income and the summary CETSCALE value
