Implementing a preventive reproductive screening and intervention program in a primary care clinic to improve women’s health during the preconception period
Unintended pregnancy, a significant public health concern in the United States, is linked to poor health outcomes due to inadequate preconception care. This DNP project aimed to enhance preventive reproductive health services for reproductive-age women (ages 18 to 44) in a primary care clinic in metropolitan Atlanta, Georgia. Recognizing the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, American Academy of Primary Care Physicians, Center for Disease Control and Prevention, and Healthy People 2030\u27s recommendations for preventive reproductive screening, and daily folic acid intake pre- pregnancy, the project focused on implementing a reproductive screening tool to assess pregnancy risk, and folic acid intake. Healthcare providers were educated on an algorithmic approach to patient screening using the \u27One Key Question\u27 initiative to guide discussions about pregnancy desires and leading to tailored reproductive counseling and care. This clinical practice change project, involving eight healthcare providers, aimed at optimizing reproductive health outcomes by aligning with national health guidelines. Thirty- three reproductive age women participated in the project. The women (N=33) were screened for pregnancy risk, given pre- pregnancy counseling and handed a bottle of folic acid upon discharge. The total number of women who received preconception counseling received was 31. The same group of 31 received folic acid and 22 continued with daily intake of folic acid after two weeks. Based on the result, use of the OKQ tool increases screening and reproductive health behaviors of high-risk reproductive age women. The project also highlights the feasibility of increasing preventive reproductive care services in a primary care setting when providers use a screening tool

Implementing a protocol to increase the uptake of the HPV vaccine
In the United States, human papillomavirus is the most persistently occurring sexually acquired infection. Nearly all human papillomavirus-associated cancers are the result of human papillomavirus infection. The human papillomavirus vaccine is a safe and effective public health intervention to prevent human papillomavirus-associated cancers and reduce morbidities and deaths. Human papillomavirus vaccine uptake falls below the benchmark, which is to attain 80% vaccination in adolescents. At an urban pediatrics clinic, where the project was implemented, only 25% of 11-12-year-olds were vaccinated between June 1, 2023, through August 24, 2023, lower than average. Alabama’s vaccination uptake incidence is 59.2%, compared to the nationwide standard of 62.6%. The deficiency of knowledge regarding human papillomavirus and the vaccine, and parent uncertainty are contributing factors to subpar uptake. The aim of this project was to implement a protocol that aligns with current research to increase immunization in 11 to 12-year-olds. The Parents Attitudes about Childhood Vaccination instrument was utilized to recognize vaccine-hesitant parents over a 12-week period. A comparison was made to the exact time frame from the preceding year to observe for increase in uptake after protocol implementation. Data was collected and evaluated for an increase in vaccination using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences software. The implementation of research-based practices, specifically identifying parent vaccine hesitancy, focusing on a high-quality healthcare provider recommendation, and providing parents with an appointment reminder card resulted in an increased vaccination rate of 54.6%
Grating lobe suppression techniques in sparse linear and planar phased array antennas with reconfigurable phasor elements
With the continual increase in the need for wireless communications, there comes a desire to decrease fabrication costs. One of the primary drivers for the cost of an antenna array is the actual number of antennas used. This number, however, can only be decreased so far for a fixed aperture area without causing undesired secondary main beams, grating lobes, to appear in the radiation pattern. This work aims to analyze the results of two methods for reducing these grating lobes in sparse, scanning phased array antennas. Both of these methods are based upon dual-mode antenna elements, as opposed to single-mode constituent elements in conventional arrays, where the relative excitation between the modes allows the antenna element to either displace its phase center or generate distinct, or shallow, nulls. The first design explored in this work will show the use of the displaced phase center method to reduce the grating lobes in a planar array, while the null generation capabilities are used to generate a novel virtually widened null to entirely eliminate the grating lobes present in sparse linear arrays
Functionalization of silicon oxide-like surfaces using a fluorosilane
The project goal was to functionalize silicon oxide-like surfaces to become hydrophobic using 1H, 1H, 2H, 2H perfluorooctyltrimethoxysilane CF3(CF2)7(CH2)2Si(OCH3)3 (PTFMS). The objective was to find the reaction conditions that will make glass and silicon (Si) wafers hydrophobic. The parameters studied were time, solution concentration, and temperature. Contact angle goniometry was used to measure the hydrophobicity of the samples. The threshold reaction time on glass was 150 hours, and the threshold reaction time for Si wafers was 300 hours. A significant difference in hydrophobicity on glass surfaces exists after 300 hours when the concentration is lowered by a factor of 10. Raising the solution temperature to 30℃ and 60℃ did not increase the hydrophobicity of glass
