Frequency percentages of grain types in Types CD opaque-rich placer sands of Mussau tempers (terrigenous components of Type C hybrid sands), arranged in order of increasing intensity of placering (percentage of total ferrmagnesian grains, FM), based on areal or band traverse counts of n terrigenous grains in thin section (percentages of calcareous grains approximate only).
Grain types:
qtz - quartz
plg - feldspar (predominantly plagioclase but rare K-feldspar possibly present)
cpx - clinopyroxene; hbl, hornblende; opa, opaque iron oxides (dominantly magnetite)
VRF - volcanic lithic fragments (variably microlitic, felsitic, glassy)
(FM) - total ferromagnesian grains (cpx + hbl + opa)
[calc] - approximate percentage of calcareous grains of reef detritus [terrigenous grains summed to 100% exclusive of calcareous grains]
