Inquiry-Based Practicum and Video Enhanced Observation (VEO) in Teacher Training
The study analyzes how mentors from practice centers and university tutors evaluate an inquiry-based practicum proposal for Primary Education degree students, using the digital tool Video Enhanced Observation (VEO). The intervention was carried out over an academic year in the practicum course, with activities designed for the six phases based on the inquiry spiral. In the final phase, VEO was applied to facilitate reflection on teaching practice. A total of 61 students, 61 mentors, and 5 tutors participated, and data was collected through questionnaires and focus groups. The results showed that the inquiry-based practicum facilitates more meaningful, useful, motivating, and transformative learning experiences. The use of VEO was also positively valued for promoting more objective, contextualized, and concise interactions between students, mentors, and tutors. Thus, improving feedback on teaching practice. We concluded that the inquiry-based practicum model promotes the professional development of future teachers, equipping them with research and reflection competencies on their own teaching practice.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Social media disclosure and reputational damage
We provide new evidence on the effects of social media in the context of a financial scandal using a sample of banks that were accused of manipulating the London Interbank Offered Rate (LIBOR). We find that increased bank Twitter activity when the scandal surfaced has a positive moderating effect on equity returns. However, the dissemination of content operated by social media users has a negative counterbalancing effect, thus amplifying the impact of the scandal. In particular, tweets that are unrelated to the scandal and characterized by positive sentiment contribute to exacerbating the reputational damage suffered by banks. We contribute to the emerging literature on the role of social media in capital markets.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Ontology of Impact: A History of the Future in Crash (David Cronenberg, 1996)
David Cronenberg
decisiones creativas adoptadas
en la cinta. También se pretende
analizar cómo ese futuro
distópico responde a la tradición de
un subgénero que, en sus variantes
más críticas, siempre se ha comportado
como un termómetro de nuestras
inquietudes sociales y un aviso
sobre nuestro irrenunciable futuro. In 1996, David

of Crash, a novel by J. G. Ballard
published in 1973. The film
portrayed a cold and dystopian
universe where affections were
replaced by injuries and caused car
accidents. The purpose of the article
is to analyze how the director adapts
Ballard's moral approaches through
narrative procedures that try to
translate into images the ominous
world imagined in the novel and
what is the effect of certain creative
decisions adopted in the film. It is
also intended to analyze how this
dystopian future responds to the
tradition of a subgenre that, in its
most critical variants, has always
behaved as a thermometer of our
social concerns and a warning about
our inalienable future.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Concanavalin A Delivers a Photoactive Protein to the Bacterial Wall
Modular supramolecular complexes, where different proteins are assembled to gather targeting capability and photofunctional properties within the same structures, are of special interest for bacterial photodynamic inactivation, given their inherent biocompatibility and flexibility. We have recently proposed one such structure, exploiting the tetrameric bacterial protein streptavidin as the main building block, to target S. aureus protein A. To expand the palette of targets, we have linked biotinylated Concanavalin A, a sugar-binding protein, to a methylene blue-labelled streptavidin. By applying a combination of spectroscopy and microscopy, we demonstrate the binding of Concanavalin A to the walls of Gram-positive S. aureus and Gram-negative E. coli. Photoinactivation is observed for both bacterial strains in the low micromolar range, although the moderate affinity for the molecular targets and the low singlet oxygen yields limit the overall efficiency. Finally, we apply a maximum entropy method to the analysis of autocorrelation traces, which proves particularly useful when interpreting signals measured for diffusing systems heterogeneous in size, such as fluorescent species bound to bacteria.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Short- and Long-Term Neurobehavioral Effects of Developmental Exposure to Valproic Acid in Zebrafish
Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by impairments in social interaction and communication, anxiety, hyperactivity, and interest restricted to specific subjects. In addition to the genetic factors, multiple environmental factors have been related to the development of ASD. Animal models can serve as crucial tools for understanding the complexity of ASD. In this study, a chemical model of ASD has been developed in zebrafish by exposing embryos to valproic acid (VPA) from 4 to 48 h post-fertilization, rearing them to the adult stage in fish water. For the first time, an integrative approach combining behavioral analysis and neurotransmitters profile has been used for determining the effects of early-life exposure to VPA both in the larval and adult stages. Larvae from VPA-treated embryos showed hyperactivity and decreased visual and vibrational escape responses, as well as an altered neurotransmitters profile, with increased glutamate and decreased acetylcholine and norepinephrine levels. Adults from VPA-treated embryos exhibited impaired social behavior characterized by larger shoal sizes and a decreased interest for their conspecifics. A neurotransmitter analysis revealed a significant decrease in dopamine and GABA levels in the brain. These results support the potential predictive validity of this model for ASD research.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
The Use of Digital Technologies at Borders: a Migrant-centred Analysis
TFG del Grau en Relacions Internacionals tutoritzat per Valeria BelloThis study investigates the impacts of digital technologies at borders on migrants, and how the
E.U. and the U.S. frame their discourse, regulations, and practices regarding this matter. The
widespread integration of digital technologies into public and private life necessitates an in-depth
analysis of their impacts. Employing the method of triangulation, this research gathered and
analysed data through a document analysis, interviews with experts and migrants, and a
cross-check with the literature. The findings from this triangulated approach point out several
statements including the following: the intensification of digital technologies at borders
significantly impacts the right to life and the right to privacy of migrants, particularly of
racialised asylum seekers and refugees; there is a notable trend in the increase of border
digitalisation ; there exists a problematic perception of digital technologies as neutral and
objective; and, while the U.S and the EU have different regulatory frameworks for AI systems
they show problems of lack of transparency and accountability in practice. The study concludes
with recommendations for policymakers, civil society, and governments, aiming to foster
responsible and accountable use of digital technologies at borders
Pornography and gender-based violence: two neglected topics in sexuality education. A systematic review
Pornography consumption at a young age may pose a threat for sexual health, due to the presence of aggression and the degradation of women. Sexuality education is viewed as a way to mitigate the effects of inadequate information and counteract certain tendencies that may be learned from pornography. This study involved a systematic review of sexuality education programmes whose effectiveness has been assessed to identify those programmes that included the topics of pornography and gender-based violence as part of their contents. A total of 30 studies met the inclusion criteria. Nearly all the reviewed programmes had been implemented in school settings in the USA. Some studies showed significant improvements in knowledge, attitudes and behaviour related to pornography. Additionally, significant improvements were reported in the prevention of sexual violence and in self-protection awareness, along with decreases in the acceptability of gender-based violence. Some of the programmes were also found to lead to increases in gender equity, critical media understanding, sexual consent, healthy relationships, and women’s risk perception and confidence, along with decreases in the intention to commit sexual violence. However, few sexuality education programmes were found to engage with the prevention of gender-based violence and the impact of pornography on children, adolescents and young people.info:eu-repo/semantics/acceptedVersio
Association between pre-diagnostic circulating lipid metabolites and colorectal cancer risk: a nested case–control study in the European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition (EPIC)
Background
Altered lipid metabolism is a hallmark of cancer development. However, the role of specific lipid metabolites in colorectal cancer development is uncertain.
Methods
In a case–control study nested within the European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition (EPIC), we examined associations between pre-diagnostic circulating concentrations of 97 lipid metabolites (acylcarnitines, glycerophospholipids and sphingolipids) and colorectal cancer risk. Circulating lipids were measured using targeted mass spectrometry in 1591 incident colorectal cancer cases (55% women) and 1591 matched controls. Multivariable conditional logistic regression was used to estimate odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for associations between concentrations of individual lipid metabolites and metabolite patterns with colorectal cancer risk.
Findings
Of the 97 assayed lipids, 24 were inversely associated (nominally p < 0.05) with colorectal cancer risk. Hydroxysphingomyelin (SM (OH)) C22:2 (ORper doubling 0.60, 95% CI 0.47–0.77) and acylakyl-phosphatidylcholine (PC ae) C34:3 (ORper doubling 0.71, 95% CI 0.59–0.87) remained associated after multiple comparisons correction. These associations were unaltered after excluding the first 5 years of follow-up after blood collection and were consistent according to sex, age at diagnosis, BMI, and colorectal subsite. Two lipid patterns, one including 26 phosphatidylcholines and all sphingolipids, and another 30 phosphatidylcholines, were weakly inversely associated with colorectal cancer.
Interpretation
Elevated pre-diagnostic circulating levels of SM (OH) C22:2 and PC ae C34:3 and lipid patterns including phosphatidylcholines and sphingolipids were associated with lower colorectal cancer risk. This study may provide insight into potential links between specific lipids and colorectal cancer development. Additional prospective studies are needed to validate the observed associations.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
