    Interdisciplinary Service-Learning (ISL) methodology. A proposal for university context

    En el contexto actual de la educación superior, marcado por la necesidad de formar profesionales competentes y ciudadanos socialmente comprometidos, la metodología del Aprendizaje-Servicio (ApS) emerge como una estrategia pedagógica con gran potencial formativo y transformador. Este artículo presenta una propuesta de implementación del Aprendizaje-Servicio interdisciplinar (ApS-i) en la Facultad de Psicología, Ciencias de la Educación y del Deporte Blanquerna de la Universidad Ramon Llull (Barcelona, España), con el objetivo de consolidar una formación universitaria integral conectada con la realidad social. La investigación, de naturaleza cualitativa e inductiva, se orienta a reconocer las virtudes de los proyectos ApS entre diferentes titulaciones, fomentar el trabajo interdisciplinario y contribuir al desarrollo de competencias de trabajo en equipo entre el estudiantado. Para ello, se ha llevado a cabo un análisis documental de dieciséis publicaciones científicas sobre ApS y una serie de entrevistas en profundidad a referentes académicos del ámbito. Los resultados obtenidos revelan que el ApS-i no solo facilita la adquisición de competencias transversales altamente valoradas en el entorno profesional, como la comunicación, el pensamiento crítico o la cooperación, sino que también refuerza la conciencia ética y el compromiso ciudadano del alumnado. Además, se identifican una serie de factores clave para su viabilidad institucional, como el diseño curricular compartido, el acompañamiento docente, la coordinación interdepartamental y la vinculación con entidades sociales.In the current context of higher education—shaped by the need to train both competent professionals and socially committed citizens—Service-Learning (SL) emerges as a pedagogical approach with significant formative and transformative potential. This article presents a proposal for the implementation of Interdisciplinary Service-Learning (ISL) at the Blanquerna Faculty of Psychology, Education and Sport Sciences of Ramon Llull University (Barcelona, Spain), with the aim of fostering a comprehensive university education that is meaningfully connected to social reality.This qualitative, inductive research seeks to identify the strengths of SL projects carried out across different degree programmes, to promote interdisciplinary collaboration, and to contribute to the development of teamwork skills among students. To this end, a documentary analysis of sixteen scientific publications on SL was conducted, along with a series of in-depth interviews with leading academic figures in the field.The findings reveal that ISL not only facilitates the acquisition of transversal skills highly valued in professional settings—such as communication, critical thinking and collaboration—but also strengthens students’ ethical awareness and civic engagement.Furthermore, several key factors for institutional sustainability are identified, including shared curriculum design, strong pedagogical support, interdepartmental coordination and partnerships with community organisations.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

    The role of gender and age in the development of physical exercise dependence in endurance sports

    La dependencia al ejercicio físico (EF) se caracteriza por la falta de capacidad de resistir el impulso de continuar ejercitándose a pesar de las consecuencias negativas y graves que genera tanto en la salud mental como física y en diversas áreas de la vida. No hay consenso sobre si el género está asociado a un factor de riesgo para el desarrollo de la dependencia al EF. En el caso de la edad, encontramos más acuerdo entre los autores destacando la juventud como factor de riesgo. Los objetivos de este estudio fueron analizar las diferencias de género y edad en la dependencia al EF, la regulación emocional, el afecto, la motivación de práctica e identidad deportiva. Se utilizo un método mixto de recogida de datos, a través de instrumentos cuantitativos y estrategias de tipo cualitativo, los grupos de discusión. Se encontraron diferencias de género en los síntomas de la dependencia al EF, las cuales pueden emplearse para identificar los pensamientos y creencias desadaptativos específicos y aplicarlas en las intervenciones terapéuticas individualizadas.Exercise dependence is characterized by a lack of ability to resist the urge to continue exercising despite the negative and serious consequences it has on both mental and physical health and in various areas of life. There is no consensus on whether gender is associated with a risk factor for the development of exercise dependence. In the case of age, we found more agreement among authors highlighting youth as a risk factor. The objectives of this study were to analyze gender and age differences in the exercise dependence, emotional regulation, affect, motivation to practice exercise and exercise identity. A mixed method of data collection was used, through quantitative instruments and qualitative strategies, focus groups. Gender differences were found in the symptoms of exercise dependence, which can be used to identify specific maladaptive thoughts and beliefs and apply them in individualized therapeutic interventions.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

    Fluid Modeling of a Non-Thermal Plasma with Dielectric Barrier Discharge and Argon as a Diluent Gas

    Non-thermal plasma (NTP) conversion applications have become an emerging technology of increasing global interest due to their particular ability to perform at atmospheric pressure and ambient temperature. This study focuses on a specific case of a dielectric barrier discharge NTP reactor for carbon dioxide conversion with the usage of argon as diluent gas. The plasma computations in COMSOL® Multiphysics are compared to experimental results and coupled with previous thermodynamic characterization of argon species and fluid dynamic calculations. The model is defined as a time-dependent study with a 2D-Geometry of pure argon, with both fluid flow and plasma phenomena. Firstly, the model showcases an accurate understanding of the plasma physics involved, in the form of electron density, excited argon, argon ions, and mean electron energy. It also allows a direct comparison of the velocity, vorticity, pressure, and dynamic viscosity results with fluid flow computations. Secondly, the impact of several variables is studied, notably the inlet volumetric rate, dielectric barrier thickness and material, and reactor length. Limitations in the plasma characterization can occur by not including packed material or all relevant species in experimental CO2 conversion and their respective reactions, which should be aimed at in future contributions.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

    Additive Manufacturing Gyroid Structures Used as Crash Energy Management

    Gyroid-like structures are promising in terms of energy absorption levels. Due to additive manufacturing, they can now be manufactured and verified for different functions. In this article, it has been proven that a Gyroid manufactured by FDM using PLA with 0.2 relative density must be oriented so that compression takes place along the build direction to obtain higher levels of force and energy. The Gyroid can be scaled, allowing the use of a single compression curve with almost constant forces up to 50% compression. The model to predict properties as a function of relative density fits well with a power-law for n = 2.2. The ability of the Gyroid to absorb energy per kilogram is about seven times lower than that of a solid PLA cube, but it can be used to obtain desired levels of deceleration. It is possible to use a simple constant deceleration model to define the Gyroid size, mass, and velocity of the object to be impacted. The use of this approach allows the tailored combination of Gyroid sizes to meet multi-objective impact targets. The simulation of impacts with a finite element model of only 125 solid elements is possible with errors below 10%. By combining different Gyroid sizes, two different safety regulations can be met. Modeling the Gyroid by meshing the real geometry allows for the local maximum force magnified at high strain rates, but it is not able to correctly predict densification.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

    Measurement of CP Violation Observables in D+ →k-K+π+ Decays

    A search for violation of the charge-parity (CP) symmetry in the D+→K-K+π+ decay is presented, with proton-proton collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.4 fb-1, collected at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV with the LHCb detector. A novel model-independent technique is used to compare the D+ and D- phase-space distributions, with instrumental asymmetries subtracted using the Ds+→K-K+π+ decay as a control channel. The p value for the hypothesis of CP conservation is 8.1%. The CP asymmetry observables ACP|Sφπ+=(0.95±0.43stat±0.26syst)×10-3 and ACP|SK̄∗0K+=(-0.26±0.56stat±0.18syst)×10-3 are also measured. These results show no evidence of CP violation and represent the most sensitive search performed through the phase space of a multibody decay.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

    Analysis of Λ0b→ pK−μ+μ− decays

    The differential branching fraction and angular coefficients of Λ0b → pK−μ+μ− decays are measured in bins of the dimuon mass squared and dihadron mass. The analysis is performed using a data set corresponding to 9 fb−1 of integrated luminosity collected with the LHCb detector between 2011 and 2018. The data are consistent with receiving contributions from a mixture of Λ resonances with different spin-parity quantum numbers. The angular coefficients show a pattern of vector-axial vector interference that is a characteristic of the type of flavour-changing neutral-current transition relevant for these decays.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

    Hacia un currículo integrado: conectando la alfabetización en inteligencia artificial con la educación tecnológica en la educación básica en Chile

    Este estudio identifica oportunidades para la integración de las áreas de contenido que comprenden los currículos para la alfabetización en inteligencia artificial (IA) compilados por la UNESCO con el currículo de Educación Tecnológica de Educación básica de Chile. Basados en una metodología cualitativa se desarrolla un estudio de caso descriptivo y exploratorio de los programas de estudio de primero a sexto año de educación básica que definen los aprendizajes en el área de la Educación Tecnológica. Los programas se analizan utilizando un análisis temático inductivo. Los resultados muestran que el currículo de Educación Tecnológica en Chile ofrece oportunidades para la integración de las tres áreas de contenido que comprenden los currículos para la alfabetización en IA. De estas áreas, el área TIC resulta ser la más pertinente para la integración. Se ofrece una propuesta para avanzar hacia la integración de alfabetización en IA que puede ser adoptada por otros currículos con características similares.This study identifies opportunities for the integration of the content areas that comprise the artificial intelligence (AI) literacy curricula compiled by UNESCO with the Technological Education curriculum of Chilean primary education. Based on a qualitative methodology, a descriptive and exploratory case study is developed encompassing the study programs from first to sixth year primary education that define learning in Technological Education. The programs are analyzed using inductive thematic analysis. The results show that the Technological Education curriculum in Chile offers opportunities for the integration of the three content areas that comprise the curricula for AI literacy, with the TIC area being the most relevant for this integration. A proposal is offered to move towards the integration of AI literacy that can be adopted by other curricula with similar characteristics.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

    Impact of mediterranean diet promotion on environmental sustainability: a longitudinal analysis

    Objective This article aims to estimate the differences in environmental impact (greenhouse gas [GHG] emissions, land use, energy used, acidification and potential eutrophication) after one year of promoting a Mediterranean diet (MD). Methods Baseline and 1-year follow-up data from 5800 participants in the PREDIMED-Plus study were used. Each participant's food intake was estimated using validated semi-quantitative food frequency questionnaires, and the adherence to MD using the Dietary Score. The influence of diet on environmental impact was assessed through the EAT-Lancet Commission tables. The association between MD adherence and its environmental impact was calculated using adjusted multivariate linear regression models. Results After one year of intervention, the kcal/day consumed was significantly reduced (−125,1 kcal/day), adherence to a MD pattern was improved (+0,9) and the environmental impact due to the diet was significantly reduced (GHG: −361 g/CO2-eq; Acidification:-11,5 g SO2-eq; Eutrophication:-4,7 g PO4-eq; Energy use:-842,7 kJ; and Land use:-2,2 m2). Higher adherence to MD (high vs. low) was significantly associated with lower environmental impact both at baseline and one year follow-up. Meat products had the greatest environmental impact in all the factors analysed, both at baseline and at one-year follow-up, in spite of the reduction observed in their consumption. Conclusions A program promoting a MD, after one year of intervention, significantly reduced the environmental impact in all the factors analysed.     Youth and Social Participation: Young People's Voices on the Perceived Impact of their Leisure Experiences in Social Volunteering Activities

    Realizar actividades de voluntariado social, concretamente en entidades de ocio educativo con niños, niñas y adolescentes, permite desarrollar competencias, participativas y de compromiso social y cívico. El artículo presenta resultados extraídos de un cuestionario en el que 180 jóvenes, alumnos de las formaciones de los diplomas de monitor/a y director/a de ocio educativo, valoran los beneficios que les aporta participar en estos espacios como voluntarios y voluntarias. Los resultados muestran cómo les influye dicha participación en su comprensión de la misma y en su práctica. También sobre los retos que ellos y ellas identifican en relación a cómo mejorar la participación de los niños, niñas y adolescentes, desde las actividades de ocio educativo.Performing social volunteering activities, specifically in educational leisure entities with children and adolescents, allows the development of participatory skills and social and civic commitment. The article presents the results of a questionnaire in which 180 young people, students of the educational leisure monitor and director diplomas, assess the benefits of participating in these spaces as volunteers. The results show how this participation influences their understanding and practice.     Transforming Event Experiences: The Role of Application Technology in Shaping Behavioral Intentions and Attachment to Places

    This study develops an integrated model that investigates the impact of app technology on event experiences and subsequent consumer behaviors—place attachment, affective commitment, and behavioral intentions. In the context of sports tourism events, data were collected from 219 international participants during the 12th Transpyr race in 2022. Results suggest that perceived usefulness, information value, and perceived enjoyment are drivers of users' app satisfaction, though perceived ease of use did not directly impact app satisfaction. App satisfaction positively impacted event experiences, fostering place attachment, behavioral intention (intention to participate, word-of-mouth, electronic word-of-mouth), and affective commitment. Affective commitment also influenced behavioral intentions positively, unlike place attachment. This study extends the tourism and consumer behaviors literature. It also presents a new perspective on the TAM model by measuring the users' online experience and its impact on the event experience.
