    Get PDF
This review analyzes the relationship between cannabis use (CBC) and the onset of first psychotic episodes (FPE) from a gender perspective, identifying differences in patterns of use and clinical impacts. A systematic review was conducted following the PRISMA guidelines through databases such as Google Scholar, PubMed, PsycInfo, Scopus, Cochrane Library and APA PsycNet. Of the 40 articles identified, only 8 met the inclusion criteria. Thus, the results show that cannabis use is a factor significantly associated with the onset of PEP, with a higher prevalence in men, while women show a more severe course and worse long-term prognosis. In addition, the underrepresentation of women in the research analyzed is highlighted and claimed, which hinders access to quality treatment.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

A dual-band flexible MIMO array antenna for sub-6 GHz 5G communications

    Get PDF
This paper presents a novel dual-band flexible antenna, uniquely designed and extended to array as well as MIMO configurations for the Sub-6 GHz band. The single-element monopole antenna features a modified rectangular radiator with two L-strips and a reduced ground plane, enabling a compact dual-band response. The proposed four-element, two-port MIMO configuration is extended from the 1 × 2 array antenna, achieving an overall dimension of 57 × 50 × 0.1 mm3, making it exceptionally compact and flexible compared to existing rigid and bulkier designs. Operating in the 3.6–3.8 GHz and 5.65–5.95 GHz bands, the antenna delivers a high gain of 5.2 dBi and 7.7 dBi, outperforming many designs in terms of gain while maintaining the superior isolation of >22 dB utilizing a defected ground structure (DGS). The design satisfies key MIMO diversity metrics (ECC 9.99) and demonstrates low SAR values (0.0702/0.25 W/kg at 3.75 GHz and 0.175/0.507 W/kg at 5.9 GHz), making it highly suitable for wearable and on-body communication, unlike many rigid counterparts. Fabricated on a flexible polyimide substrate, the antenna addresses challenges such as size, bandwidth, isolation, and safety in MIMO antenna design. The performance, validated through fabrication and measurement, establishes the proposed antenna as a superior alternative to existing MIMO designs for compact, high-performance Sub-6 GHz 5G applicationsinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

A proposal for inquiry-based learning in accounting using study and research paths

    Get PDF
Integrating inquiry-based learning into foundational accounting courses remains a challenge due to entrenched lecture-based practices. This study introduces Study and Research Paths (SRPs), a structured inquiry approach based on the Anthropological Theory of the Didactic, to promote active learning in a first-year accounting course on indirect taxation. Conducted at a Spanish university, the intervention centred on a realistic value added tax case and employed two instructional tools: a question–answer map and an inquiry logbook. Implemented over 12 sessions, this SRP encouraged student collaboration, critical inquiry, and greater ownership of learning. Findings from three iterations revealed improved engagement, deeper conceptual understanding, and enhanced teamwork skills. Teachers noted a productive shift in classroom dynamics and effective use of digital platforms such as Microsoft Teams. The study offers a replicable model for embedding inquiry in accounting education and highlights SRPs’ broader potential to support active learning in disciplines requiring both conceptual exploration and procedural competence.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Effects of the inhaled dose of air pollution on health: a systematic review

    Get PDF
The inhaled dose of air pollution (IDoAP) is an air pollution exposure quantification method that accounts for individuals’ amount of inspired air (i.e. minute ventilation), and thus for the physical activity practised by individuals. We aimed to summarise the existing literature and identify research gaps on the health effects of IDoAP. We included original peer-reviewed research in PubMed, Scopus, SPORTDiscus, Embase and Cochrane prior to November 2024 and appraised bias following Cochrane and ROBINS-E tools. Title, abstract and full-text screening, data extraction and bias appraisal were completed in duplicate. Of 1888 screened studies, 25 studies were included, mostly focusing on healthy adults (21 out of 25 studies), overlooking susceptible populations such as pregnant individuals or those with pre-existing disease. Studies focused primarily on IDoAP of O3 (IDoAP-O3) (14 out of 25 studies) and particulate matter <2.5 µm in aerodynamic diameter (IDoAP-PM2.5) (13 out of 25 studies), with an exposure duration of up to 24 h. Lung function was the most studied outcome (19 out of 25 studies). Acute exposure to IDoAP-O3 was associated with reduced lung function: increasing IDoAP-O3 by 150 μg·m−3 led to a decrease in forced expiratory volume in 1 s (FEV1) of 0.27 L. This was driven by O3 concentration, while increases in minute ventilation did not affect FEV1. A number of research gaps were identified. These comprised research on susceptible and vulnerable populations, including residents of low-to-middle-income regions, and people with extreme occupational exposures; air pollutants other than O3 and PM2.5; and outcomes besides respiratory markers. Alternative statistical approaches are also required, such as multi-exposure models. Our findings support initiatives to generate low-pollution public corridors to keep IDoAP levels as low as possible to maximise health benefits from physical activity.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Functional Polarization of Liver Macrophages by Glyco Gold Nanoparticles

    Get PDF
Macrophages are crucial drivers of innate immunity. Reprogramming macrophages to a restorative phenotype in cancer or autoimmune diseases can stop their cancer-promoting activity or trigger anti-inflammatory immunity. Glycans have emerged as key components for immunity as they are involved in many pathophysiological disorders. Previous studies have demonstrated that supraphysiological amounts of mannose (Man) or sialic acid (Sia) can inhibit tumor growth and stimulate differentiation of regulatory T cells. Man is known to affect glucose metabolism in glycolysis by competing for the same intracellular transporters and affecting macrophage polarization, whereas Sia alters macrophage differentiation via signaling through Siglec-1. Herein, this work describes a macrophage targeting platform using gold nanoparticles (GNPs) functionalized with Man and Sia monosaccharides which exhibit high liver tropism. A single dose of glyco-GNPs can convert macrophages to a restorative phenotype in two completely different immune environments. Man promotes tumor-associated macrophages toward an antitumorigenic activity in a MC38 liver colorectal cancer model by secretion of TNF-α, IL -1β, and IL -6 in the tumor microenvironment. However, in a proinflammatory environment, as observed in a mouse model of autoimmune disease, primary biliary cholangitis, Man impairs the production of TNF-α, IL-1β, Arg1, and IL-6 cytokines. The results probe the dual role of Man in macrophage repolarization in response to the immune system. This study is a proof-of-concept that demonstrates that nanomedicine using specific glycans designed to target other immune cells such as myeloid cells, are a promising strategy not only against cancer but also against other pathologies such as autoimmune diseases.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Thermophysical Characterization of Sustainable Pathways for Hydrofluorocarbons Separation Utilizing Deep Eutectic Solvents

    Get PDF
The widespread use of hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) in refrigeration ushered in a significant environmental challenge due to their high global warming potential. Effective recovery and separation techniques are imperative to mitigate their adverse impacts and promote sustainability. This study investigates the solubility behavior of four common HFCs (R-125, R-134a, R-32, and R143a) using choline chloride ([Ch]Cl) and tetramethylammonium chloride (TMAC) based Deep Eutectic Solvents (DESs) as ecofriendly, low-toxicity and low-cost alternatives, provided the promising selectivity exhibited by some of them in separating HFC mixtures. The new experimental data are completed by a comprehensive thermodynamic characterization employing the soft-SAFT equation. This modeling enables the description of the density and viscosity of pure DESs, enthalpy and entropy of dissolution, Henry’s constants, and ideal selectivity. From these results, the competitive selectivity among gases in multi-component blends and DESs is predicted. R-32 appears to have the highest affinity in DESs, followed by R-134a, R-143a, and R-125, while TMAC:EG (1:3) shows the highest absorption capacity for all HFCs. Despite relatively low absorption rates, DESs containing TMAC:GL (1:3) and [Ch]Cl:GL (1:3) + 10 wt% exhibit promising selectivity for separating HFCs mixtures, especially those containing R-32, which holds significance for applications in recovering commercial blends like R410A and R407F.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
