ZnO Sintering aid effect on Proton Conductivity of BaCe0.6Zr0.3Y0.1O3-δ electrolyte for Hydrogen sensors

    No full text
Proton-conducting solid-state electrolytes, including perovskite-type materials, hold promise for hydrogen sensor development. These sensors leverage the proton conductivity of such materials to detect hydrogen gas presence. However, achieving both high density for gas tightness and good protonic conductivity in these refractory materials can be challenging. In this study, we propose the preparation of dense pellets of BaCe0.6Zr0.3Y0.1O3-δ using ZnO as a sintering aid (BCZY-Zn). These pellets were extensively characterized using X-ray diffraction and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and compared with pellets sintered without sintering aid (BCZY). Subsequently, BCZY-Zn electrolyte was utilized to fabricate amperometric sensors for hydrogen monitoring. Finally, amperometric measurements were conducted at 500°C while maintaining a voltage of 150 mV between electrodes. The sensors' performance was evaluated for hydrogen partial pressures ranging from 12 to 100 Pa within an argon atmosphere. Additionally, response and recovery times were calculated.info:eu-repo/semantics/acceptedVersio

Neurodevelopmental Outcomes of Mycotoxins Exposure and Effect on Brain Development in Infants and Young Children

    No full text
This comprehensive literature review was conducted to identify relevant studies on mycotoxins and brain development in children. Existing studies suggest that mycotoxin exposure during critical periods of brain development may lead to neurocognitive impairments in children. Some studies have reported associations between mycotoxin exposure and reduced cognitive abilities, impaired motor skills, and behavioral problems. Additionally, mycotoxins have been shown to disrupt neural signaling pathways and interfere with neurotransmitter function, potentially contributing to neurodevelopmental disorders. This comprehensive review has provided a comprehensive overview of the possible evidence on the association between mycotoxin exposure and brain development in children and identified areas for future research.info:eu-repo/semantics/acceptedVersio

Food waste in group dining: the interplay of shame and conflict aversion in the “last piece of food” dilemma

Group dining at social or business occasions frequently encounters the “last piece of food” dilemma, where a single item remains uneaten when food is served to event guests on a shared plate. Despite its contribution to food waste generation in event catering, the socio-cultural and psychological drivers of this phenomenon remain unexplored. Using a mixed methods research design, this study examines the underlying factors of the “last piece of food” dilemma. The study identifies event guests’ sense of anticipated shame and desire to avoid conflict as primary drivers. The study highlights individual concern about food waste as a potential countermeasure to the “last piece of food” phenomenon. The study calls for management interventions to strengthen this concern among event guests by communicating that consuming all food on a shared plate will not be negatively judged.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Comedia y existencia: A propósito de cine y teatro en Edgar Neville, Enrique Jardiel Poncela y Miguel Mihura

    No full text

Development and characterization of electrochemical hydrogen sensors using different fabrication techniques

    No full text
Tritium Breeding Modules (TBMs) aim to demonstrate tritium self-sufficiency for future fusion reactors. These modules operate at high temperatures, requiring stable, real-time and high-temperature monitoring of the tritium production and its related safety aspects. Electrochemical sensors based on perovskite-type materials are great candidates since they present good chemical stability and mechanical strength, among others. This work describes the development of electrochemical hydrogen sensors based on perovskite-type ceramic BaCe0.6Zr0.3Y0.1O3-α (BCZY). Two different technologies were used for the ceramic shaping: Cold isostatic pressing (CIP) and 3D printing. CIP was selected as a well-established technique known for its effectiveness in ceramic shaping. On the other hand, 3D printing was chosen for its suitability in determining the desired geometry through rapid and efficient prototyping. The response of the sensors was evaluated at 400, 500 and 600 ºC using hydrogen calibration mixtures in argon in a potentiometric mode. These results suggest that both, CIP and 3D-printed BCZY sensors have the ability to detect hydrogen in these environments, enabling a game-changing solution for monitoring fusion processes which require the quantification of hydrogen isotopes.info:eu-repo/semantics/acceptedVersio

Exploring the barriers and facilitators for following a sustainable diet: A holistic and contextual scoping review

    No full text
Changing current dietary patterns to more sustainable ones is paramount to decrease the pressure food systems are putting onto the planet and people’s health and wellbeing. However, modifying consumers’ behaviour is extremely challenging since multiple factors of variable nature (i.e., personal, socioeconomic, cultural, external…) influence food choices. For this reason, we aim to identify consumers’ barriers and facilitators for following a sustainable and healthy diet, and explore how these are perceived among people from different socioeconomic backgrounds. To do so, we conducted a scoping review of the literature with a consultation phase with citizens from Barcelona with different socioeconomic backgrounds. Results revealed one hundred intricate factors that influence people food behaviour, which were grouped into internal, and external factors. Although the literature generally agreed on the direction of influence from the identified factors, the consultation phase generated substantial disagreements given the participants’ diverse perspectives and motivations. However, some limiting factors were commonly mentioned across groups which corresponded to feelings of distrust towards the food industry, lack of time, disgust towards specific foods, and the high cost of foods. Differences across socioeconomic groups were not observed except for the latter. All participants agreed that cost acted as a barrier, although participants from higher socioeconomic backgrounds were more capable to find arguments to overcome the price barrier. Results are necessary to acknowledge the particularities embedded in each person and the need to design context-based interventions to effectively overcome people’s barriers and enhance their facilitators.info:eu-repo/semantics/acceptedVersio

Understanding the Toxicity of Metal-Based Nanomaterials: Current Insights, Challenges, and Future Directions

    No full text
This review provides an overview of the current knowledge regarding the nanotoxicological impact of metal-based nanomaterials intended for biomedical applications. The extensive application of nanotechnology in the biomedical field has driven a surge in the development of nanomaterials, particularly those derived from metal sources. However, the numerous formulations, experimental conditions, and physicochemical and biological parameters have raised legitimate concerns about the safety and toxicity of these nanomaterials. To complicate matters, the interaction of nanoparticles with biological environments alters their physicochemical properties, including size, surface charge, and colloidal stability, where the exposure pathway is significant. Consequently, the nanotoxicological profile of the nanomaterial also changes. This review concisely presents the primary nanotoxicology mechanisms and findings in the literature. Additionally, it offers an overview of the current state of nanotoxicology for metal-based nanomaterials and provides brief recommendations for its evaluation.info:eu-repo/semantics/acceptedVersio

Impact of strategic capabilities on digital transformation success and firm performance: theory and empirical evidence

    No full text
What is needed for organisations to succeed in digital transformation, and what is its advantage? Motivated by the ongoing high amount of failing digital transformations, this study identifies necessary predictors and outcomes of this prominent matter on the macro level. Drawing on strategic capabilities as enablers for the redefinition of business value and organisational identity in the digital era, we propose that the complementary synergies of strategic capabilities empower digital transformation success, improving firm performance. The results support the proposed model using structural equations modelling with multi-data from 154 organisations and complementary objective data. This study identifies synergistic facilitators for digital transformation success by providing an integrated portfolio of complementary capabilities (i.e., outside-in, spanning, and inside-out orientation). The study also contributes to IS research by offering a measurable conceptualisation of digital transformation success. In addition, findings empirically show the association between digital transformation success and firm performance to enable further investigations in the IS field. Finally, from the study’s findings, practical implications can guide organisations towards digital transformation success and firm performance.info:eu-repo/semantics/acceptedVersio

    Evaluación de la actividad matemática

    No full text

Symbolic violence towards people with long Covid through their narratives

People with Long COVID (LC) are among the most affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Although this phenomenon is a global health issue, those affected are often rendered invisible and delegitimized. The aim of this research is to make visible the situations of symbolic violence faced by individuals with LC. A qualitative metasynthesis methodology has been employed, integrating literal narratives from people with LC published in scientific articles from Scopus, Web of Science, and Discovery. We find that, although the concept of symbolic violence is not explicitly mentioned in the researchers' conclusions, many of the collected testimonies align with some of the ten dimensions that define this concept. We conclude that the individual experience of each of these dimensions results in situations of epistemic injustice and helplessness.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
