Effect of Double-Pulse Strategy on the Expulsion Formation and Peak Loads During Resistance Spot Welding of Dissimilar Thickness Ultra - High Strength MS1500 and Mild DD11 Steels
Resistance spot welding (RSW) is widely utilized in the automotive industry due to its high efficiency, flexibility, and compatibility with automation. These advantages make it a preferred method for joining advanced high-strength steels, enabling lightweight designs without compromising structural integrity. This study explores the mechanical properties of resistance spot-welded joints between ultra-high-strength MS1500 steel and hot-rolled DD11 steel, with a focus on single-pulse and double-pulse welding strategies. The effects of varying current levels were evaluated in terms of tensile-shear strength, failure energy, nugget diameter, hardness distribution, and microstructural transformations. In single-pulse welding, expulsion was observed at a current of 8.6 kA, limiting joint performance. Conversely, the double-pulse welding strategy provided enhanced control, yielding superior results. Optimal performance was achieved at a second welding current of 8.4 kA, with a tensile-shear strength increase of 11.6% and a fracture energy enhancement of 32.2% compared to single-pulse welding. Beyond 8.6 kA, expulsion caused inconsistencies in mechanical properties, highlighting the importance of current optimization in welding strategies. The findings demonstrate the effectiveness of the double-pulse welding strategy in improving the strength and quality of resistance spot-welded joints
Mitigating toxic gases leaking during excavations in infrastructure projects is crucial for both human health and environmental protection. In this context, Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations are highly valuable for modeling and analyzing the complex physical processes related to the transport and dispersion of gases. During infrastructure projects in geothermal regions, various gases may leak from underground sources. These gases may include toxic and/or flammable substances such as hydrogen sulfide (H₂S), carbon dioxide (CO₂), and methane (CH₄). Designing an effective ventilation system is essential to mitigate toxic gases through ventilation. CFD simulations can be utilized to evaluate the design and performance of ventilation systems. Modeling gas leaks from sources encountered during excavations with CFD simulations can help understand how these gases move throughout infrastructure projects and assess their environmental impacts. CFD simulations assist in optimizing factors such as the placement of ventilation systems, duct design, airflow velocities, and filtration efficiency. This optimization ensures the effective removal of toxic gases and minimizes environmental impacts. Moreover, CFD simulations can be used to evaluate the efficiency and safety of ventilation systems in mitigating toxic gases. Simulating the operation of ventilation systems during potential emergency scenarios can also aid in risk assessment and preparedness.
With the recognition of risks arising from the increasing volume and volatility of capital flows, particularly after the global financial crisis, many developing countries have started to impose capital controls to cope with macro-financial instability. To improve our understanding of the role of capital controls in managing capital flows, this study investigates whether restrictions on inflows and outflows have an impact on gross flows. Further, this paper questions whether the financial development level of countries has a role in the effectiveness of capital control policies. Utilizing a dataset encompassing 44 developing countries from 1998 to 2017 and employing linear and nonlinear panel data techniques, the findings indicate that tighter outflow controls lead to a decrease in gross outflows. In contrast, the gross inflows and the volatility of each flow do not significantly respond to the increases in restrictions. The results of further investigation based on nonlinear estimations reveal that when countries go beyond a certain threshold level of financial development, tighter capital controls lead to a reduction in the size of gross inflows
Metabolomics analysis of children with spastic cerebral palsy: a case-control study
Background Spasticity, pain, fatigue and other secondary consequences of spastic CP may lead to metabolic alterations. The aim of this study was to analyze the plasma metabolomic profiles of children with spastic CP and compare these with typically developing controls.MethodsThis case-control study (n = 50 for CP and n = 55 for control) was conducted between September 2020 and November 2020 at Mersin University Hospital. Three to ten year old patients with spastic CP and age- and sex-matched typically developing controls were included in the study. Data on anthropometric measurements and clinical profiles were collected. Plasma samples were obtained for non-targeted metabolomics. The GC-MS based metabolomics analysis was performed. Metaboanalyst software was used for multivariate analyses, principal component analysis and pathway analyses. Results Spastic quadriplegia, spastic diplegia and spastic hemiplegia were found in 26 (52%), 14 (28%) and 10 (20%) patients, respectively, and 31 patients (62%) were non-ambulant. Twenty-two patients (44%) had epilepsy and antiepileptic use. Mean weight-for-age, height-for- age, and body mass index z-scores were significantly lower in the CP group (p < 0.05). Total 224 metabolites were detected in all subjects. Of these metabolites, 14 were detected at higher and 37 at lower levels in the CP group compared to the control group. The most significant changes in the CP group were found in aminoacyl-tRNA biosynthesis, tyrosine metabolism, valine, leucine and isoleucine biosynthesis, alanine, aspartate and glutamate metabolism, arginine and proline metabolism, citrate cycle (TCA cycle), galactose metabolism and glutathione metabolism. Forty-five metabolites were statistically significant between control, CP with epilepsy and CP without epilepsy groups. Thirty-four metabolites were statistically significant between control, ambulant CP and non-ambulant CP groups. Conclusion Plasma of spastic CP children was associated with alterations in energy metabolism and protein synthesis and amino acid metabolism compared to typically developing children. Gross motor functional level and accompanying epilepsy may also alter the metabolite profiles
Temsilsiz Vergi Olmaz İlkesine Dijital Perspektiften Yaklaşım: Vergi Hukukunda Algoritmik Seçmen Manipülasyonu
Dijitalleşme, demokrasi ve vergilendirme arasındaki ilişkiyi etkilerken “temsilsiz vergi olmaz” ilkesinin meşruiyetini de sorgulamaya açmaktadır. Çalışmada, yapay zeka destekli algoritmaların ve büyük veri teknolojilerinin demokratik temsil süreçleri üzerindeki etkisi ve bu etkinin vergi hukukundaki demokratik meşruiyete yansımaları incelenmiştir. Seçmen iradesinin mikro hedefleme, psikografik profilleme, dezenformasyon ve filtre balonları aracılığıyla manipüle edilmesi, temsil edilenin gerçek iradesinin seçim sonuçlarına ne derece yansıdığı sorununu doğurmaktadır. Çalışma, algoritmik manipülasyonun temsil edilen ve temsilci arasındaki ilişkiyi zayıflattığını ortaya koyarken, bu durumun vergilendirme politikalarının toplumsal meşruiyetini erozyona uğrattığını vurgulamaktadır. Algoritmalar tarafından şekillendirilen siyasi tercihler, popülist vergi politikalarına zemin hazırlamakta ve uzun vadede kamu maliyesinde istikrarı bozacak sonuçlar doğurabilmektedir. Çalışmada ayrıca vergi adaleti, hukuki güvenlik gibi vergilendirmeye ilişkin temel ilkelere yönelik tehditler ele alınmaktadır. Çalışmada, temsil mekanizmasının dijitalleşme etkisiyle aşındığı ortamda vergilendirmenin demokratik meşruiyetini güçlendirmek adına çözüm önerileri sunmaktadır. Bu bağlamda algoritmik süreçlerin şeffaflığının artırılması, bağımsız denetim mekanizmalarının oluşturulması ve uluslararası düzeyde etik standartların benimsenmesi gerektiği vurgulanmıştır. Türkiye özelinde ise mevcut yasal düzenlemeler değerlendirilerek, algoritmik süreçlerin bağımsız denetimini sağlayacak düzenleyici mekanizmalara duyulan ihtiyaç ifade edilmektedir. While digitalisation affects the relationship between democracy and taxation, it also calls into question the legitimacy of the principle of ‘no taxation without representation’. In this study, the impact of artificial intelligence-supported algorithms and big data technologies on democratic representation processes and their reflections on democratic legitimacy in tax law are analysed. The manipulation of voter will through micro-targeting, psychographic profiling, disinformation and filter bubbles poses the problem of the extent to which the real will of the represented is reflected in the election results. The study highlights that algorithmic manipulation weakens the relationship between the represented and the representative, while this situation erodes the social legitimacy of taxation policies. Political preferences shaped by algorithms pave the way for populist tax policies and may lead to destabilising public finances in the long run. In the study, threats to fundamental principles of taxation, such as tax justice and legal security, are also addressed. In the study, solution proposals are presented to strengthen the democratic legitimacy of taxation in an environment where the mechanism of representation has been eroded by the impact of digitalization. In this context, it has been emphasized that the transparency of algorithmic processes should be increased, independent audit mechanisms should be established, and ethical standards should be adopted at the international level. In the case of Turkey, the need for regulatory mechanisms that would ensure the independent audit of algorithmic processes is expressed by evaluating the existing legal regulations
