How Does Poor Appetite Affect Nutrition in Community-Dwelling Elderly People?
Objectives: The study aimed to assess the impact of lifestyle habits and nutritional status on elderly individuals with varying appetite levels in the community. Materials and Methods: The study was conducted on 6,094 elderly individuals aged ≥65 years living in the community. A questionnaire designed to assess general characteristics, anthropometric measurements, and 24-hour dietary recalls of the individuals was administered through face-to-face interviews. Results: Elderly individuals with good appetite had significantly higher daily intake of calcium, iron, zinc, vitamin B12, and folate compared to those with poor appetite, meeting their requirements at significantly higher rates (p5% in the last six months is significantly lower in elderly individuals with good appetite compared to those with moderate and poor appetite (p<0.001). Conclusion: Overall, the study underscores the influence of appetite status on food consumption, nutrient intake, and anthropometric measurements in the elderly. Identifying and addressing decreased appetite in aging individuals is crucial for designing effective dietary interventions to enhance their nutritional and health outcomes

The Use of Omics Sciences in Allergic Diseases From Bench to Bedside: An EAACI Position Paper
Omics have revolutionized our understanding of allergic diseases, with increasingly more studies adopting techniques like genomics, proteomics, and metabolomics over the years. Integrating high-dimensional omics data with clinical features can enable more precise disease classification and biomarker identification, leading to improved disease management and the development of novel therapies. However, translating these discoveries into clinical practice remains a challenge. In this European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (EAACI) Position Paper, the Task Force (TF) "The Use of Omics Sciences in Asthma and Allergy Clinical Practice" performed a broad review of recent papers where omics technologies were used in the context of clinical studies and provided a summary of relevant findings in the field of asthma, atopic dermatitis, allergic rhinitis, food allergy and drug hypersensitivity reactions. Particular attention was dedicated to studies investigating overlapping diseases/co-morbidities, revealing unique and shared signatures that could guide future therapeutic and research efforts. Furthermore, current hurdles in translating findings from bench to bedside were explained, and possible solutions were offered. With this position paper, the TF aims to assist researchers and clinicians by providing an overview of the investigations performed to date, highlighting gaps in research, limitations, and avenues for further exploration in clinical practice

A novel platform of synthetic polyurea bioinks with tailorable properties
Bioprinting enables the fabrication of living tissue constructs through the deposition of bioinks containing live cells within a three-dimensional architecture that mimics the native tissue microenvironment. A major challenge in bioprinting is the lack of an ideal bioink that simultaneously offers suitable biocompatibility, rheological behavior, mechanical strength and elasticity, particularly for load bearing and dynamically active tissues such as skeletal muscle. Currently the bioinks available are mainly based on animal or plant derived natural polymers, such as gelatin, collagen, hyaluronic acid, fibrin, silk fibroin, chitosan, alginates and their derivatives. These materials are often chemically modified with acrylates to enable photo-crosslinking. Polyethylene glycol di (meth)acrylate is one of the few synthetic bioinks available. Unfortunately, both natural and synthetic bioinks exhibit limitations in terms of mechanical stability, printability, and support for cellular function. In this study, we present a novel class of light-curable synthetic polymers based on polyurea chemistry (PUMA), as a platform for bioink development. These materials offer tunable structural and biological properties suitable for skeletal muscle tissue engineering. Comprehensive structural and mechanical characterization of the polyurea bioinks developed was performed, including their rheological properties, printability, and post-crosslinking dimensional stability. Furthermore, cytocompatibility was assessed by in vitro assays, and successful 3D bioprinting was demonstrated under visible light (lambda = 405 nm) with C2C12 mouse myoblasts, indicating the potential of PUMA materials as a robust and customizable synthetic bioink platform for skeletal muscle tissue regeneration
Age estimation of single nucleotide polymorphisms associated with autoinflammatory diseases in anatolia: insights from ancient and modern DNA
Autoinflammatory diseases are immune system disorders that arise from abnormalities in the innate immune system. With the advent of genome sequencing, several distinct genetic loci associated with different types of autoinflammatory diseases have been identified. However, the evolutionary history of these variants, such as the age of the alleles, has not been fully explored in human populations. In this study, we focus on Anatolia, a region with a rich and dynamic prehistory, serving as a hub for human migration and genetic interactions. We explore the age of mutations associated with autoinflammatory diseases that are prevalent in present-day Anatolia, including Familial Mediterranean Fever, Tumor Necrosis Factor Receptor Associated Periodic Fever Syndrome, and Beh & ccedil;et's Disease. We use RELATE and analyze genomic data from six low-to-medium depth of coverage (0.74-6.02X) ancient (1500 BCE-7955 BCE) and 16 modern individuals from Anatolia to estimate the ages of 26 SNPs associated with these autoinflammatory disorders. Our results show that allele ages range from 981.452 to 74080.4 generations. We find that Beh & ccedil;et's Disease is the earliest to have appeared in Anatolia, followed by Tumor Necrosis Factor Receptor Associated Periodic Fever Syndrome and Familial Mediterranean Fever. We had used both modern and ancient samples to improve the accuracy of our estimates. A MEFV variant that is modestly associated with Familial Mediterranean Fever (rs61732874) age range of 8050 to 17929.8 generations, suggests that the origin of Familial Mediterranean Fever disease in Anatolia may date back further than previously thought. This is the first time that Tumor necrosis factor receptor-associated periodic syndrome SNP (rs4149584) age was calculated as 3263.58 to 8160.29 generations. In summary, understanding the age of these alleles is crucial, as it provides valuable insights into the historical prevalence of mutations linked to diseases in Anatolia and their role in the genetic landscape of the region

Linguistic Landscape: Theories, Methods, Case Studies
Signs with scripts and images in the public sphere are of interest not only to scholars, but also to a wide range of societies interested in language and culture. Written signs on public spaces therefore a popular object of academic research and discussion. A significant part of what is written contains old-fashioned opinions. As public reactions play an important role in the formation of street signs, people's reactions to street signs are an interesting research topic. However, since the 2000s, a new field of research has emerged that attempts to examine the issue within the framework of certain theories and methods. This research topic, which has become widespread in English sources as a linguistic landscape (LL), can be referred to as dilsel manzara or dilsel g & ouml;r & uuml;n & uuml;m in Turkish. Linguistic landscape is a sub-discipline of sociolinguistics. It focuses on signs with writing and visuals in public spaces, and shows a rapid development by collaborating with different disciplines, but theoretical developments are not reflected in research in Turkey. This article briefly outlines the scope and definition of the field of linguistic landscape. It then examines the theories and methods of linguistic landscape research through examples and emphasizes the interdisciplinary nature and development of the field. In this way, an attempt is made to contribute to the elimination of the theoretical and methodological gap in the field in Turkey. Attempts to formulate findings and theories from different disciplines within an overarching framework are among the hallmarks of linguistic landscape research. The literature in the field is constantly expanding with new theories, ideas, approaches and methodological debates. Researchers are applying innovative methods in the field by combining methods and techniques from different disciplines such as ethnography, anthropology and applied linguistics. It is noteworthy that qualitative and quantitative methods are increasingly used together in publications. Linguists in applied linguistics, sociolinguistics and other disciplines use a variety of methods, including statistical methods, ethnographic research, context and discourse analysis. Data collection tools include digital photographs, videos, audio recordings, face-to-face interviews, standardized questionnaires and participant observation. Different analytical techniques are also extensively utilized. Discussions about the methods of linguistic landscape research often focus on data analysis
