This study aimed to investigate the relationship between occupational balance and psychological attitudes in earthquake survivors living in a container city in Malatya, Turkey, following the February 6, 2023, earthquakes. Material and Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted with 53 earthquake victims, with a mean age of 31.54±10.20 (min 18, max 53) living in Malatya Samanköy Container City. Occupational balance was assessed using the Turkish version of the Occupational Balance Questionnaire (OBQ11-T), and psychological attitudes were evaluated with the Psychological Impact of Earthquake Exposure Scale (PIEES). Spearman correlation analysis was used, with a Bonferroni-corrected significance level set at p<0.007. Results: There was a strong and statistically significant negative correlation between OBQ11-T and PIEES total scores (r=-0.778, p<0.007). Significant negative correlations were also found between OBQ11-T scores and all subdimensions of PIEES. These findings suggest that increased psychological impact is associated with decreased occupational balance. Conclusion: The results highlight a close relationship between occupational balance and post-disaster psychological well-being. Specifically, high levels of disconnection from life, avoidance, poor social health, trauma-related anxiety, spiritual change, and maladaptive growth were associated with reduced engagement in daily activities and lower occupational balance. These findings underscore the importance of occupation-centered interventions in post-disaster psychosocial rehabilitation

The evidence supporting theuse of hybrid closed-loop systems (HCLS) in this populationis still limited. We conducted a systematic review and metaanalysis to evaluate the safety and efficacy of HCLS compared to sensor-augmented pump (SAP) therapy in olderadults with T1D. Methods: A systematic search ofPubMed, Embase, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, andclinicaltrials.gov identified randomized crossover trialscomparing HCLS and SAP in individuals aged 60 years orolder with T1D. Mean differences (MD) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were calculated using a randomeffects model. Higgins’ I² statistic assessed heterogeneity, and statistical analyses were performed using ReviewManager 5.4.1. Results: Three studies involving a total of149 participants were included, contributing 292 observations from both HCLS and SAP treatment periods. The median duration of diabetes was 38 years, and the mean timein range (TIR; 70-180 mg/dL) at baseline was 68.4±14.4%.Approximately 90% of participants had previously used insulin pumps. During the HCLS period, TIR increased by7.9% (95% CI: 6.14 to 9.66; p < 0.001), while time aboverange (TAR; >180 mg/dL) decreased by 7.14% (95% CI:6.09 to 8.20; p < 0.001) compared to SAP. TIR was extendedby an average of 118 minutes with HCLS, while TAR wasreduced by 107 minutes. No significant difference in timebelow range (TBR; <70 mg/dL) was found between groups(MD -0.59%; 95% CI: -1.20 to 0.01; p = 0.06). Glycated hemoglobin levels decreased by 0.2% (95% CI: 0.13 to 0.27; p <0.001) with HCLS, and glucose variability, as measuredby the coefficient of variation, significantly decreased by1.96% (95% CI: 1.39 to 2.53; p < 0.001). Conclusion:Hybrid closed-loop systems in older adults with longduration T1D improved glycemic control without increasing the risk of hypoglycemia when compared to SAP therapy. Further research is warranted to address the uniquechallenges faced by this population.Presentation: Sunday, July 13, 2025</p

Gelinin Otobiyografik Belleği Bağlamında Kına Türkülerinde Hafıza, Mekân ve Geçmiş

No full text
Autobiographical memory is the recollection of events in one's life. The content of this memory consists of personal experiences and events related to objects, time and personal interactions. Life stages are the most important source of information in autobiographical memory. These periods, which are loaded with symbolic meanings that shape the experiences of individuals, are the periods where the relationship between people, objects and space can be analyzed and where individual and cultural recollections are most intense. Arnold Van Gennep called these periods, which leave important effects on the individual's life, “transition periods”. The most important feature of transition periods is that they are based on physiological changes. The effects of physiological changes and transformations are psychological. The traumatic effects of beginnings and endings in important periods of life are reduced by the teachings and practices of the cultural structure based on balance. One of the important life stages in human life is marriage. Marriage is one of the important thresholds through which an individual passes from one stage to another. Crossing this threshold is realized through certain rituals, such as the henna night ritual. This ritual, with its henna folk songs, plays a significant role in reducing the traumatic effects of life transitions. One of these is the henna night ritual. Many practices loaded with symbolic meanings on the henna night have been passed down from the past to the present. One of the inseparable elements of this night is “henna folk songs”. Henna folk songs include the life story of the young girl who becomes a bride and the sadness caused by the separation from her parents' home. The places where the individual was born and raised, her memories, and the events she has experienced are passed down for centuries in folk songs. Every woman who sings and listens to folk songs finds something of her past and life in them, connecting them to their past in a nostalgic way. In this way, henna folk songs turn into autobiographical narratives of memory and experience that remind women of the events of their own lives. In this study, autobiographical memory will be determined based on the henna folk songs of the Sivas Şarkışla Emlek region, which are also called “head praise air” in the region. In the study, where image analysis will be made with a text-centred approach, an analysis of autobiographical memory coding in henna folk songs will be made

Comparison of two main fragmentation methods of amyloid beta fibrils for establishing an Alzheimer disease model in cell culture

No full text
Aim: Amyloid beta fibrils have been shown to play a role in plaque formation and aggregation in Alzheimer’s disease. Obtaining these fibrils using two main methods and applying them to Alzheimer’s modelling is crucial in understanding the pathology of the disease at the molecular level and identify in therapeutic targets. The aim of our study is to determine the optimum sonication parameters using probe and ultrasonic bath sonication laboratory methods and to demonstrate Alzheimer’s disease modelling at the cellular level. Methods: Lyophilized human peptide amyloid beta 1-42 fibrils (fAβ 1- 42) were subjected to probe sonication for 1 minute with 1, 3 and 5 second on/off pulse applications at varying ambient temperatures (room temperature, ice and ice surrounded by dry ice [ISDI]) for 20, 40 and 60 cycles, respectively. Then, ultrasonic bath sonication was performed in 10 °C water for 1 hour. The length of the fragmented fibrils was quantified by transmission electron microscopy (TEM). fAβ1- 42 at different concentrations was applied to SH-SY5Y cell line. The non-toxic dose and time of fAβ 1-42 application were analysed using the WST-1 assay. Intracellular and extracellular fibrils were visualized with immunofluorescence (IF) labelling. Results: Although, fragmentation was observed under all conditions, it was observed that fibrillar lengths decreased as the on/off pulse times increased, regardless of the number of cycles with ice and dry ice. Additionally, decreasing the temperature increased fibrillar fragmentation. Conclusion: We anticipate that our study will contribute to the literature by developing an effective and economical sonication method for fibrillar fragmentation with two main laboratory methods and obtaining fAβ1-42 that can be used in cells at optimum concentration

Oncology nurses' compliance with standard precautions: a multi-method study

No full text
Aim To assess oncology nurses' compliance with standard precautions (SPs) and explore factors influencing adherence to inform targeted interventions in infection prevention. Design A multi-method methodology was used. Methods In the quantitative phase, 232 nurses from two oncology hospitals completed the Compliance with Standard Precautions Scale (CSPS) and a demographic questionnaire. In the qualitative phase, structured observations and semi-structured interviews were conducted with 14 purposively selected nurses. Results The average SP compliance score was moderate (73.9%). Higher compliance was observed in waste disposal (86.2%), while lower rates were noted for hand hygiene (67.2%) and sharps disposal (63.2%). Age, professional experience, and recent infection control training positively correlated with compliance. A higher patient load was associated with lower adherence. Multiple regression analysis showed that both nurse age and daily patient load were significant predictors of compliance scores (F = 6.714, p < 0.01). Older age was associated with higher compliance, while a heavier patient load predicted lower adherence. Qualitative findings revealed key barriers, including time constraints, limited resources, and staffing shortages. Nurses emphasized that consistent training, managerial support, and supervision by infection control personnel facilitated better compliance. Conclusions Oncology nurses moderately adhere to SPs, with critical gaps in high-risk areas. Addressing institutional and workload-related barriers is essential for improving SP practices
