Understanding the Link between Environmental Identity, Eco-anxiety, Intolerance of Uncertainty and Mental Well-being

No full text
Climate change is becoming a growing threat to the health of both the planet and people. As more people face ecological changes, more people experience challenging emotions such as anxiety about the future. In this study, a model of the relationship between environmental identity, intolerance of uncertainty and mental well-being was tested using structural equation modelling to determine the mediating role of eco-anxiety. A cross-sectional study was conducted with 392 individuals (aged 18–59) in Türkiye using convenience sampling method. SEM showed the partial mediating effect of eco-anxiety and intolerance of uncertainty on the relationship between environmental identity and mental well-being. Environmental identity has a direct and indirect effect on mental well-being through eco-anxiety and intolerance of uncertainty. Eco-anxiety also has a direct and indirect effect on mental well-being through intolerance of uncertainty. As a result, in the face of the negative effects of ecological changes on people's mental health, individuals with higher levels of environmental identity will be more likely to develop good mental health when they can control their levels of eco-anxiety and intolerance of uncertainty. In addition, the positive effect of the measures that can be taken against climate change on nature is an important factor that can increase the well-being of individuals. These findings suggest that interventions targeting eco-anxiety and intolerance of uncertainty, particularly in culturally diverse populations, can promote better mental well-being in the face of climate-related stress. Developing psychological strategies that enhance environmental identity could serve as an important tool for fostering resilience against the psychological impacts of ecological changes

A Fuzzy Inference-Based Dynamic Discount Algorithm Proposal for Customer Loyalty Programs

No full text
This study proposes a fuzzy inference-based loyalty program aimed at enhancing customer loyalty by considering shopping frequency, average spending, and subscription behavior. Developed to overcome the limitations of traditional loyalty programs, the proposed system analyzes customer behavioral data to offer personalized discounts. The model uses shopping frequency, average spending, and recency as input parameters, which are modeled using fuzzy logic to calculate a customer loyalty score. These scores are then utilized to determine tailored discount rates based on customer profiles. The performance of the model was validated through a case study, demonstrating its effectiveness in increasing customer satisfaction and encouraging repeat purchases. This approach provides businesses with a data-driven and flexible framework for designing loyalty programs

Climate change and its related natural hazards, such as drought, have increased in recent years, affecting several sectors, including agriculture, industry, and others. The decreasingprecipitation amounts, rising temperatures, and decreasing river flows due to climate changehave started to show themselves frequently in recent years, with increasing drought events in alarge part of Europe. Droughts have negative impacts on ecosystems, agriculture, and waterresources. One of the regions where drought risk has increased in recent years and is alsovulnerable to the effects of climate change is Bavaria, one of the largest states in Germany. Thevulnerabilities of Bavaria, with its important agricultural and forest areas as well as the waterresources needed by the population and industry, make it necessary to address and assessdrought hazards in the region scientifically. In this study, a spatial assessment of the droughthazard across the state of Bavyara was analyzed using the Drought Hazard Index (DHI) basedon the Standardized Precipitation Index (SPI) and its related drought characteristics, such asseverity, duration, intensity, and frequency. Also, the sensitivity analysis of these characteristicsin DHI calculation is assessed, the impact of each character on the drought hazard isinvestigated, and critical scenarios for drought are identified. DHI is used to temporally andspatially assess and map the hazard level of droughts. The monthly precipitation data between1964 and 2023 was used in the Bavaria region. The results showed how likely frequent, severe, and duration of drought are in the Bavaria region, along with its negative effects, the essentialsteps that must be taken to avoid these effects, and the adaptation strategies. The red color isthe mist hazard area over the study area, having values near 4 - high hazard levels of droughts. One of the most significant outputs of this research is determining the effect/role of eachvariable in DHI calculation. The results have made a significant contribution to the academicfield, decision-makers, and policy-makers in terms of water resources management andadaptation strategies.</p

A systematic review of health promoting effects of consumption of whey-based fermented products on adults

No full text
Introduction: Fermented whey-based products show significant potential as functional foods, owing to their rich nutritional profile and the generation of bioactive compounds during fermentation. This systematic narrative review evaluates the health effects of fermented-whey consumption based on evidence from human studies in adults. Methods: A systematic literature search was conducted using electronic databases including, PubMed, Scopus, and Cochrane Library for studies published between 1.1.1970 and 31.12.2024. All human clinical studies conducted with adults over 18 years old were included in this study. Inclusion criteria were randomized controlled trials and clinical studies involving adults consuming fermented whey products. Data extraction and quality assessment were performed using CADIMA software and standardized protocols. Studies identified by the search strategy and extracted data were screened independently by 2 reviewers using the CADIMA software. Risk of bias was assessed using the Risk of Bias 2 tool. Results: After screening 1852 titles and abstracts and assessing 20 articles for eligibility, a total of 12 human intervention studies met the inclusion criteria and were included in the systematic narrative review. Consumption of fermented whey products was associated with improvements in muscle mass, glycemic control, lipid profiles (notably triglycerides and LDL cholesterol), immune function (e.g., increased natural killer cell activity), and reductions in oxidative stress and inflammation. Some studies also reported benefits for gastrointestinal and urinary tract health. The health effects were attributed to increased bioavailability of branched-chain amino acids, bioactive peptides, and microbial metabolites such as exopolysaccharides and short-chain fatty acids. Most interventions were well tolerated, with no serious adverse effects reported. Conclusion: Fermented whey products demonstrate promising health benefits across multiple physiological systems. While current evidence supports their use as functional food ingredients, further large-scale, long-term clinical trials are needed to confirm efficacy and elucidate mechanisms of action. Fermented whey appears to be a safe and versatile option for enhancing adult nutrition and health.</p

Emergency steering gear operation at tanker ships is a safety-critical task requiring utmost effort in case of steering system failure. Therefore, ship crew performance plays significant role. The objective of this article is to systematically identify and quantify human errors associated with emergency steering gear operations. To fulfil this, a robust and practical approach Decomposed Fuzzy Analytical Hierarchy Process (DF-Fuzzy AHP) and Success Likelihood Index Methodology (SLIM) is integrated. The proposed approach allows for the structured assessment of performance shaping factors (PSFs) while effectively addressing the vagueness and subjectivity in expert opinions. The findings of the article show that task 4-inappropriate manoeuvres made/engine(s) stopped-is having the highest human error probability (2.185E-01) value. Besides its robust theoretical background, the outcomes of the research will provide utmost practical contributions ship safety professionals, tanker ship owners, superintendents and HSEQ managers to enhance operational safety and prevent potential failures of ship crew during operational process of emergency steering gear at tankers
