The human activity that generates profits also brings impacts, whose losses can trigger several other problems. Upon considering the last ecological disasters that took place in Brazil, this study aims at identifying the understanding of what happens with the profit of companies that disclose events that involve environmental damages by using the Petróleo Brasileiro Petrobrás S.A. and Vale S. A. share prices as a study compared with Ibovespa, the Brazilian stock index. The research is classified as a quantitative, descriptive approach carried out through a Survey. Data collection was  performed via stock opening and closing prices, maximum and minimum quotes, and the number of days until the stocks regained their value, which happened immediately before disclosure. The results showed investors, managers, and researchers that stock profit averages from companies that disclose their environmental damages have no meaningful differences concerning the non-diversified, systemic Ibovespa index, but recovering such profits takes longer

    Get PDF
Nowadays, we live in a context of social and economic crises, declining in non‐renewable resources and environmental pollution. On the other hand, we can see the growing awareness of social responsibility, sustainability practice increasing and concern for the environment. But, to have success and develop sustainable processes, it is necessary that all involved actors contribute by working collaboratively in the supply chain. In this sense, it is important to understand what the consumers think about recyclable disposal waste in the supermarkets. In this way, this study aimed to verify the perception of the consumers from the city of Montreal in Canada to dispose of their recyclable waste in supermarkets in Montreal. Qualitative research was carried out and the data were collected through seven personal interviews with consumers from Montreal supermarkets, selected by convenience. As results, it was possible to identify consumers being aware of the importance of conscious disposal to reduce pollution in the environment, despite they don’t practice. They emphasize that supermarkets and grocery stores do not incentivize the recycling process. The results also show that, in general, consumers think that it’s not practical and convenient to dispose of their recyclable waste in the supermarket in Montreal. Finally, consumers agree that it will be positive if the supermarkets encourage their consumers to dispose of the recyclable waste by offering financial benefits. They also believe that this action could incentivize people to recycle more. These results are important for the sustainable development, for the establishment of strategies towards sustainability by the supermarkets. The supermarkets can develop sustainable practices working together with their consumers, promoting gains to supermarkets, consumers and the environment

    Get PDF
Due to higher requirements for achieving sustainable development goals, current challenging sociopolitical climate and internationalization, business models remain problematic, resulting in a more complex global competition among firms and the need for sustainability incorporation. Throughout this study, a conceptual model based on the systematic literature review was applied as the methodology, with the study's purpose to propose the new Model of Continuous Enterprise Sustainability, which is designed to facilitate and enhance enterprise management in today's demanding and complex business environment by providing concise steps for effectively incorporating sustainability into day‐to‐day business activities. Five essential components, through their interconnectedness, form the Model of Continuous Enterprise Sustainability, which smooth the path of sustainable management in a dynamic environment, which are as follows: (1) situational factors, (2) creating factors/processes, (3) triple‐sustainable results, (4) organizational results, and (5) continuous stakeholder communication, optimization, innovation and learning. This conceptual model contributes in the first line to advancement and detail explanation of how to achieve sustainable human, financial and natural resources management within enterprises. In addition to directions for sustainable internal resources management, this model also involves clarification how to strategically manage with external resources and prime stakeholders in order to integrate meaningful sustainability matters in firm's business core and create continuously greater value for firm and its prime interested parties

Where Does Language Aptitude Come From? Redux

    Get PDF
This paper examines evidence for relationships among individual differences (IDs) in L1 achievement, L2 aptitude, and L2 achievement. It begins by providing an overview of my academic journey from L1 educator to L2 researcher and explains the development of the Linguistic Coding Differences Hypothesis (LCDH). Next, I review Peter Skehan’s influential research on language aptitude and L1-L2 relationships and summarizes research showing that IDs in L1 achievement (and L1 ability) are universal, can be identified early, and are stable over time. Then, I review research on L1-L2 relationships and IDs in L2 learning, focusing on the longitudinal studies and reporting two new studies that examine the relationship between L1 achievement and L2 aptitude on the MLAT. Overall, I argue that the development of L1 literacy leads to growth in metalinguistic awareness, which enhances L1 literacy skills, and that L1 literacy and metalinguistic awareness provide the foundation for L2 aptitude, the ability to use and understand “decontextualized” material. I conclude the paper by proposing an answer to the title

    Get PDF
The COVID-19 pandemic has become a worldwide concern hampered people's mobility and global trade. The study seeks to find the linkage between business managers' competency toward the performance of Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) during the COVID-19 pandemic. The study is a quantitative technique that has a sample of 750 respondents, of which 732 responses were returned as per the questionnaires sent for data collection. The partial least squares technique was deemed appropriate and was used to scrutinize the data, which was based on Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). The findings revealed that COVID-19 pandemic has harmed managers' ability to operate their firms in Ghana, resulting in layoffs, low market share, low firm productivity, low client retention, a rise in the unemployment rate, and the closing of businesses. These findings supported profit maximization and survival-based theories, specifically the explanations advanced under the premise that every organization will act in its own best interests to maximize profit and survival, using every tactic to achieve survival. The implications of this study are to ensure that FMCG in Ghana ultimately migrates into digital platforms in order to remain flexible in their operation as a business and allow effective transactions among customers and business

Contemporary Trends in the Use of Social Media in Marketing and Branding

    Get PDF
Modern companies exist in a highly competitive environment and are forced to look for new tools to promote their products and expand their audience. Companies, along with the mass media, use social communities as media resources to share their content with people they consider their audience. Initially, it was all about driving traffic to their websites, hoping to increase sales. But very quickly, social media went far beyond being just a place to share content. Today, social networks have become a full-fledged platform for promoting goods and services. And the formation and implementation of SMM strategies (social media promotion strategies) is becoming perhaps the most important link in the formation of the marketing system. Given the relevance of the research topic, its purpose is to summarise theoretical aspects and develop practical recommendations on the use of social media to promote products and create a positive company image. As a result of the study, the author analyses the dynamics of growth of social media users, identifies the benefits of forming a marketing campaign in social media, and develops recommendations on creating and implementing an SMM strategy for an enterprise

    Get PDF
The purpose of the present research was to investigate the effect of strategic flexibility on organizational ambidexterity and the mediating role of critical thinking in the sporting goods industry. Data was collected using a questionnaire distributed online among the employees of this industry, and 203 questionnaires were collected over a period of six months. The results showed that strategic flexibility is a significant positive predictor (0.63) of organizational ambidexterity. In addition, critical thinking significantly moderates the effect of strategic flexibility on organizational ambidexterity. The results of this research can help industry managers apply critical thinking to achieve organizational ambidexterity and strengthen the outcomes of strategic flexibility
