If DM is not treated properly it can lead to long-term complications such as cardiovascular disease, stroke, peripheral vascular disease, hypertension, diabetic retinopathy, diabetic nephropathy and diabetic neuropathy.
Objective: To determine the effectiveness of injection education with puppet media on the level of knowledge and adherence to insulin injection in patients with diabetes mellitus.
Methods: The research used was a quasi-non-equivalent experiment with the one group pre test post test method. This study was 60 respondents who were selected through the purposive sampling technique and divided into two groups, namely 30 people in the control group and 30 people in the intervention group.
Results: The results showed that the level of post-test educational knowledge in the control group was 1.00% and the intervention group was 1.67%. At the level of compliance, the value in the control group was the same, which was 2.93% and the intervention group was 1.83%. This study showed that through the Wilcoxon test, a value of p<.001 was found, there was a difference between the level of knowledge before and after the intervention in the intervention group and the control group. In the mann whitney test, it was found that p ≤ α = 0.05 there was a difference in the level of knowledge between the intervention group and there was a difference in the level of compliance between the intervention group and the control group after the posttest.
Conclusion: The level of pre-test and post-test knowledge of education in the control group and intervention group has increased, but in the control group there is no change because the respondents in the control group are exposed to education every month at the time of control at the internal medicine clinic. Thus, there is a significant influence of insulin injection education using puppet media on DM patients
