    Costruzione del paesaggio rurale e rigenerazione del patrimonio territoriale: il caso studio di un'area interna dell'Abruzzo

    L’Italia è caratterizzata da una rete di centri minori che rappresentano un patrimonio diffuso di valori storici, culturali e ambientali, strettamente intrecciato al contesto territoriale di appartenenza. Quelli ricompresi nella Strategia Nazionale per le Aree Interne (SNAI), che partecipano alla definizione di un più ampio concetto di patrimonio definito come territoriale, stratificato e interconnesso, possono costituire oggi un ambito privilegiato di sperimentazione di differenti modelli di rigenerazione nell'ottica della resilienza e della sostenibilità. Nell’ambito della ricerca dottorale, finanziata dall’Agenzia per la Coesione Territoriale, dal titolo “Strumenti per la valutazione speditiva dei parametri della resilienza per la valorizzazione e rigenerazione della rete dei centri minori dell’area interna Valle del Giovenco-Valle Roveto”, il contributo propone lo studio del patrimonio dell’edilizia rurale che caratterizza l’area interna oggetto di processi di trasformazione, rilevanti in termini qualitativi e quantitativi, dovuti alla sua singolare storia. L’obiettivo di valorizzazione del patrimonio rurale abbandonato e quello di promozione dei processi di sviluppo capaci di incrementare l’attrattività territoriale e l’inclusione sociale trovano riscontro diretto in due fasi dell'iter metodologico della ricerca. Quella relativa al censimento e all'analisi degli insediamenti rurali condotto mediante la realizzazione di schede analitico-descrittive e la georeferenziazione tramite il software QGIS che ha mostrato una presenza diffusa di manufatti in pietra locale, un tempo funzionali alla vita agro-pastorale, oggi abbandonati. L'altro di analisi e di valutazione degli strumenti di programmazione e di indirizzo attualmente attivi sul territorio in cui sono state elaborate matrici di coerenza utili ad individuare le direttrici strategiche su cui basare gli interventi di rigenerazione e di recupero del patrimonio

    Characterizing and computing in linear time mutual-visibility parameters in distance-hereditary graphs

    The mutual-visibility problem in a graph G asks for the cardinality of a largest set of vertices X⊆V(G) so that for any two vertices x,y∈X there is a shortest x,y-path whose internal vertices are all not in X. Variations of this problem are known, based on the extension of the visibility property of vertices that are in and/or outside X. It is known that solving the mutual-visibility problem in all its variations is NP-complete, whereas it has been shown that there are exact formulas for special graph classes like paths, cycles, blocks, cographs, and for the Cartesian product of some simple graphs like paths, cliques and cycles. In this paper, we study the (variations of) mutual-visibility problem in the context of distance-hereditary graphs. In particular, we introduce the direct canonical decomposition of a graph as a tool for defining useful structural properties of the graphs studied. Then, we show that such properties allow us to devise a linear-time algorithm for solving all the variants of the mutual-visibility problem for distance-hereditary graphs. In turn, this allowed us to show that a recently posed conjecture about the total mutual-visibility number of distance-hereditary graphs holds

    A panel data study of causality links between CO2 concentration and temperature

    While the role of rising CO2 concentration in increasing the temperature is well known, the opposite causality link, from temperature to CO2 concentration, received far less scrutiny. In this paper, we address the relation between the two variables using the Dumitrescu-Hurlin panel causality test for a panel of individual areas of the planet. We also run individual areas-level Granger causality tests to determine the geographical distribution of the local causal links between the CO2 concentration and temperature. We find evidence of both causality directions at the global level, suggesting potential feedback between CO2 concentration and temperature. We also find that the global phenomenon results from a very fragmented geographical distribution of mostly unidirectional causality links at the local level. Considering the two results jointly, this work potentially provides insights into the connection between average trends of human-induced global warming and particular local conditions experiencing extreme meteorological conditions

    GameDev MentorHub: An “on-the-job” TEL Environment for Video Game Developers

    The video game industry has become a dominant force in the global digital economy, attracting developers through unprecedented financial opportunities and a growing demand for engaging experiences. However, the push for rapid production and player retention often results in the widespread use of design strategies that may reinforce compulsive gaming behaviors. Adolescents—whose neurodevelopmental profiles heighten sensitivity to reward mechanisms—are particularly vulnerable, leading to increasing cases of Gaming Disorder (GD), now recognized as a global public health concern. Despite growing awareness, current development workflows lack integrated tools to assess and consider GD-related risks, and existing educational initiatives remain disconnected from industry practice. In response, this paper introduces GameDev MentorHub, an “on-the-job” Technology-Enhanced Learning (TEL) environment that embeds GD risk awareness directly into the video game development process. Built upon a multiperspective framework grounded in psychological science, the system aims to support developers through structured guidance, real-time risk evaluation, and context-aware learning—all within an “on-the-job” TEL system. By transforming the development process into a continuous learning experience, GameDev MentorHub aims to make responsible video game development both accessible and actionable in real-world industry settings

    Enhanced recovery and survival after elective surgery for colorectal cancer - propensity score weighting analysis of 2,865 prospective patients

    Background: The impact of enhanced recovery pathway (ERP) on survival after colorectal cancer surgery (CCS) remains controversial. Materials and methods: A total of 2865 adults enrolled in a multicenter cohort study (iCral3 study) after CCS were followed up. The percentage adherence to the ERP was recorded, and the patients were grouped according to their quartiles. Other patient-, center-, disease-, and treatment-related factors were considered in a machine learning generalized boosted model (GBM) to estimate the 22 covariates propensity score weights for the binary comparisons between the reference treatment (1st quartile, ERP adherence rates <57.7 %) and the other treatment arms (2nd, 3rd, and 4th quartile). The primary endpoint was overall survival (OS). A GBM-weighted Cox model balanced on the same covariates was used to estimate the hazard ratio (HR) and 95 % confidence interval (95 %CI). Results: Patients in the 4th quartile (ERP adherence rates ≥80.8 %) showed a significant lower risk of death from any cause (HR, 0.69; 95 %CI 0.49–0.96; p = 0.026). Conclusions: High adherence to ERP was associated to a significant impact on long-term overall survival, supporting the efforts towards proper ERP implementation after CCS

    Disentangling the role of inter and intraspecific trait variations in plant community assembly processes

    The analysis of functional trait variation in plant assemblages along environmental gradients may provide fundamental information to understand community assembly. Differences in trait dominance among assemblages, commonly expressed by the community-weighted mean, can arise from either the intraspecific variability alone, a change in species composition (species turnover, that is, interspecific variation), or, most often, a combination of these two sources of variation. Although differences among plant communities in response to environmental changes are mostly due to interspecific variations, there is increasing evidence that intraspecific variation may also play an important role. Disentangling the relative contribution of inter and intraspecific variation is particularly useful to investigate the relative importance of “internal” and “external” filters in shaping plant community responses to the environment, and hence to understand community assembly. Investigating the magnitude of the inter and intraspecific sources of variation may be useful to shed light on community resistance, since a low intraspecific variability indicates low capabilities of plant communities to adapt to environmental changes. Inter and intraspecific variations along gradients can occur in the same direction (positive covariance) or in opposite directions (negative covariance). Positive covariation indicates that the environmental factors that favor the occurrence of plant species with some particular traits also favor the same traits at the individual level, whereas negative covariation indicates that individuals with trait values that deviate most from the predominant species-mean trait values have some selective advantage at the local scale. Investigating intraspecific variation may be difficult because of the large number of measures that must be taken, yet assessing its role for multiple traits is of pivotal importance in community ecology

    Multi-Context Execution on a RISC-V Core for Mixed-Criticality Systems

    Mixed-criticality systems integrating software modules with varying levels of criticality require robust isolation to ensure safety and dependability. High-end and mid-end architectures achieve this through strict time and space partitioning supported by multiple privilege levels and memory management units. However, low-end processors, limited to two privilege levels, face challenges in implementing efficient time and space partitioning without compromising system composability. This paper introduces a novel multi-context environment for low-end RISC-V processors, leveraging a lightweight hardware extension and enabling efficient time and space partitioning. The proposed solution not only ensures robust isolation and system composability but also provides flexibility to balance hardware and software overhead, advancing the state of the art in the dependability for resource-constrained systems
