Talking about tasks or just sharing job offers? A case study on job-related tweets
The skills and qualifications of IT professionals are constantly changing and under discussion. In particular, we see the impact of emerging technologies and tools, such as AI, on the labor market and their reflection in the broader scientific community, media and everyday life [Do19; He16]. Several approaches have discussed how to assess the impact of computer science education from the perspective of education and labor market research [HBE22; SHL22]. However, in order to uncover the complex dynamics surrounding vocational education, we need to take a closer look at the labor demand as well as the public perception and valuation of professionals. Therefore, we present a novel approach to work with social media data, in particular Twitter/X data. We have collected a large dataset of job-related X data (2007-2023) but see that a word list-based searching strategy is not enough. Most tweets are actually job offers and we will discuss several strategies to categorize tweets accordingly to make a meaning out if it. We focus on occupations in natural sciences, geography and informatics
AI-assisted Programming: From Intelligent Code Completion to Foundation Models: A Twenty-Year Journey
From pioneering work on intelligent code completion to large language models, AI has Had significant impact on software engineering over the past two decades. This keynote presentation traces the evolution of AI-assisted programming, highlighting advancements and outlining future directions
On the Anatomy of Real-World R Code for Static Analysis
We summarize the paper “On the Anatomy of Real-World R Code for Static Analysis”, published at the 21st International Conference on Mining Software Repositories, April 202
Exploiting Data Redundancy in Im2Col Convolutions
Convolution is the key operation in Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs). One approach to improve the performance of the direct convolution is to map the convolution to matrix multiplication. This method is known as im2col and suffers from large memory overhead due to data redundancy. We propose a novel approach to exploit the data redundancy and increase cache locality. We conclude that this method requires special matrix multiplication routines to yield superior performance
Nowadays, IT costs represent a significant portion of total business expenses. Responsible must strive to lower these IT expenses or guarantee their efficient management. However, understanding and transparency regarding these expenses are often lacking. Analyzing IT cost drivers enables a deeper understanding of the causes and effects of strategic decisions. This study focuses on examining the strategic IT cost drivers, considering their extent of impact and decision-making locus. A Delphi study underlines their predominantly long-term effects. Moreover, it is apparent that the IT department plays a significant role in the decision-making process, although the business side often makes final decisions. Therefore, collaboration and effective communication are crucial, and all decision-makers should share responsibility for IT costs. This paper contributes to the field of IT cost management and increases awareness among practitioners of the ways to influence costs and by examining the strategic discussions on IT costs and the IT value proposition
Predictive model for hay and silage bale weight estimation
Bale weight measurement during grassland harvesting provides the basis for various applications in the fields of precision farming, targeted feeding, logistics planning and farm management. Weight sensors have the disadvantage of being cost-intensive, difficult to position and challenging to use in motion. This paper presents the development and validation of a sensor-based system designed to estimate the weight of bales produced by balers, particularly for models without built-in weight sensors. The primary objective is to establish a predictive model that ensures standardized weight measurement across different machines. By employing data fusion techniques, the model integrates inputs from multiple sensors to enhance the accuracy of weight predictions. Leveraging machine learning, the model achieved a Mean Relative Error of 4.96%, a Mean Absolute Error (MAE) of 41.34, and a Pearson correlation coefficient of 0.96. This method is cost-effective, as it eliminates the need for additional hardware, thus reducing both equipment and maintenance costs
First results of combining RGB segments and multi- spectral pixel classes for strawberry ripeness detection
Autonomous harvesting of strawberries is dependent on the detection of fruits and their ripeness. For harvesting in commercial fields, at least unripe, ripe, and overripe fruits must be distinguishable. In this paper, we employ visual image-wise segmentation with multi-spectral pixel-wise ripeness classification on real field recordings. Our results show the feasibility and potential of this combination. Furthermore, we identify problematic parts and necessary improvements
