    Process Science for Sustainability: Research Gaps and Research Strategy

    This novel direction proposal explores how process science can transform sustainability management in industrial settings. We identify research gaps in process science related to sustainability, including the need for foundational definitions of process sustainability, methods for capturing and integrating sustainability-relevant data, approaches for analyzing process sustainability, and frameworks for managing process sustainability effectively. To address these gaps, we propose a five-phase research strategy that progressively builds from conceptual foundations to advanced implementations. This approach can be applied across various domains, as demonstrated by our ongoing work in the event management industry, where traditional sustainability reporting methods struggle with the industry’s dynamic nature. Our work aims to bridge the gap between regulatory requirements and operational reality while fostering collaboration between Process Science and Sustainability research communities

    Commercialization for Public Value - A Path for Civic Technology Innovation to Diffuse Into Public Administrations

    This paper explores the dynamics of commercialization as a strategy for civic technology (CivicTech) ventures to gain trust and legitimacy in public administration. CivicTech, rooted in grassroots innovation, often struggles with scalability and sustainability due to limited financial resources. In response, some ventures transition into government technology (GovTech), adopting professional and commercial practices. Through a mixed-methods study, including desk research and expert interviews, an examination is presented on how isomorphism, conoercive, mimetic, and normative, drives this transition. Findings highlight how commercialization fosters innovation diffusion into public sectors, balancing grassroots ideals with institutional expectations to enhance public value in smart citiesand beyond

    Teaching Software Quality with Adaptive Source Code Feedback

    One of the necessary skills to become a good programmer is writing code which is not only correct but also maintainable. The practice of adhering to coding conventions should be introduced early in the learning process. However, students in computer science and related areas often come with different levels of prior coding experience, but have acquired this skill only partially in passing. Thus, the students require individualized feedback on code quality, which is challenging for teachers to provide. To provide valuable feedback to students with different skill levels, we developed a methodology to give adaptive feedback, tailored to the students skill level. We implemented the methodology in a tool, which provides the adaptive feedback for a given source code. In this paper, we present the tool and evaluate its effectiveness through an experiment conducted in programming courses at two universities. Our user study leads to the conclusion that filtered feedback does not significantly help students improve the quality of their source code

    This research examines the application and impact of customer centricity concepts in the context of smart cities. The aim is to analyze how customer-oriented approaches influence the development and implementation of smart city solutions and what potentials arise from this for an improved quality of life and sustainability in urban areas. The success of customer centricity initiatives in cities and municipalities depends to a large extent on the extent to which they succeed in adapting organizational structures, integrating technologies in a meaningful way and always putting people at the center. The study focuses on the integration of citizen needs into technology-supported urban development concepts and explores ways in which smart cities can be made more efficient and citizen-friendly through customer centricity

    Towards a Metadata Model for Process Data

    Research in process mining is strongly data-driven and often relies on publicly available data sets for the evaluation and comparison of algorithms. However, the FAIR principles (findable, accessible, interoperable, and reusable research data) have not been widely adopted in this research area. To facilitate data documentation in this field, we propose an initial metadata model for process data called ProMeta. Our proposal is guided by existing metadata standards and metadata models, which have been proposed in related research areas. Additionally, we provide a validation of ProMeta based on existing documentations of research data published at 4TU.ResearchData and Zenodo. The proposed metadata model thereby aims to start a discussion among researchers in the community on how research data in process mining should be documented

    Um Lerninterventionen hinsichtlich des Erwerbs von Konzeptverständnis evaluieren und vergleichen zu können, sind validierte quantitative Erhebungsinstrumente erforderlich. In diesem Beitrag wird die Konzeption, Entwicklung und Evaluation eines Concept Inventory zum Thema Maschinelles Lernen (CIML) für die Sekundarstufe I beschrieben. Zunächst werden die dem CIML zugrunde liegenden ML-Konzepte vorgestellt und diesen verbreitete, aber inadäquate Alltagsvorstellungen gegenübergestellt. Anschließend wird der Entwicklungsprozess sowie der finale Aufbau des Instruments erläutert, einschließlich der Ergebnisse aus Schüler:innenbefragungen und Expert:innenvalidierungen. Abschließend wird der Einsatz des CIML als Prä-Post-Testinstrument exemplarisch dargestellt
