Mädchen machen Informatik: gemeinsam, motiviert, erfolgreich

    No full text

The Research Data Infrastructures for Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (RDI4DS) Workshop 2025, organized by the NFDI4DS consortium as part of INFORMATIK 2025, brings together researchers from various disciplines to present and discuss recent developments in data science and artificial intelligence. The workshop aims to establish a shared vision for a research data infrastructure that serves this interdisciplinary community

An Open Web Index – opportunities and risks for fundamental rights and freedoms

    No full text
A freely accessible and comprehensive European Open Web Index could drive the emergence of new web and data services, including Artificial Intelligence (AI) systems. Such an index would significantly contribute to diversity in the digital market and would enable users to choose between different services. This article addresses and explores the legal framework and potential for such an Open Web Index and it’s applications, including the training of Large Language Models (LLMs). Opportunities and risks for fundamental rights and freedoms are analysed, followed by an overview of legal obligations concerning data protection and artificial intelligence. Evaluating the Open Web Index through the lens of fundamental rights reveals both significant risks and substantial opportunities. While it may challenge rights such as privacy, data protection, intellectual property, and the freedom to conduct a business, it also holds the potential to enhance transparency, democratize access to information and promote freedom of expression

Human-AI Interaction Patterns in Creative Domains and Their Time-Based Visualization

    No full text
The ongoing expansion of AI systems in creative domains brings new dynamics of human-AI interaction that have been difficult to describe and categorize, highlighting the need for new approaches to discussing human-AI interaction. This paper introduces an easy-to-use time-based visualization method to better understand and communicate human-AI interaction dynamics. We applied this method to our dataset of 337 AI systems in creative contexts, in particular music and writing. By clustering the visualizations, we identified seven recurring patterns of human-AI interaction, each representing distinct action and communication dynamics. This contribution offers a shared vocabulary for designers, engineers, and researchers, aiding in the description and categorization of human-AI interaction systems. In a broad view, we contribute deeper insights into the components and types of human-AI interaction, inspiring future design of human-centered AI systems in creative domains with the objective of catering to the diverse requirements of user groups and their respective workflows and demands

Stress by Design? The Influence of Online Exam Interfaces on Student Anxiety

    No full text
Online exams gained prominence during the COVID-19 pandemic and continue to be used in various educational contexts. This study investigates how university students and instructors perceive online assessments, with a focus on stress and interface design. Two online surveys were conducted: one targeting students (N=65) and the other targeting instructors (N=9). The findings reveal a preference for paper-based examinations among both participant groups. Around 72% of the students found online exam platforms easy to use and visually comfortable. However, 30% of the students reported that the interface design did impact their performance negatively. One-third of the students reported experiencing anxiety before and during online exams. Factors contributing to reducing stress included the ability to familiarize oneself with the exam platform beforehand and having simpler, uncluttered visuals. The surveys provide valuable insights from both students and instructors, offering guidance on points of improvement regarding the design of online examination platforms

Searching for a Definition of Diversity in Entertainment Computing

    No full text
Entertainment computing enables hedonistic experiences using digital technology and is becoming increasingly socially significant. Diversity, i.e., the variety of backgrounds, genders, ages, worldviews, and other characteristics that distinguish individuals in social contexts, is also socially significant. Less is known about how entertainment computing and diversity are related, i.e., how diversity is facilitated by entertainment computing (and how diversity makes entertainment computing more important) . To address this gap, we conducted a rapid literature review using the ACM Digital Library database. We identified a total of 30 articles. The results are twofold: (1) we present a categorization of the articles found and (2) based on these articles and other relevant literature, we propose a definition for the current state of diversity in entertainment computing. Accordingly, the article provides a preliminary groundwork for the further development of entertainment computing, taking into account the notion of diversity and how entertainment computing can support diversity

A Multi-User Interface for Real-Time Intonation Monitoring in Music Ensembles

    No full text
Intonation is a crucial aspect of musical ensemble performance. Yet maintaining accurate tuning among multiple musicians remains a persistent challenge, particularly in variable rehearsal and live performance settings. While intonation monitoring systems have been explored previously, most focus on single-channel processing, lack real-time capabilities, or do not support ensemble-specific functionality. In this work, we explore the possibilities of a real-time, multi-user intonation monitoring system specifically developed for music ensembles. It provides immediate, role-specific feedback to both musicians and conductors, supporting collaborative rehearsal practices and ensemble tuning processes. We conducted an initial experiment in a rehearsal setting with four musicians and a conductor, focusing on a qualitative evaluation of usability, interpretability, and musical relevance. The preliminary findings indicate that the system offers clear and practical feedback, promotes awareness of intonation, and has the potential to enhance interaction and facilitate communication within the ensemble
