Abstract Malignant brain tumors, a rare cancer, are prone to cognitive decline, and their families suffer greatly. Appropriate nursing support for family is required, but the nursing support is not clear. In this study, a survey conducted to clarify family members’ perception of nursing support for family members of patients, using a questionnaire developed based on a pilot study. The purpose of the survey was explained to the chief nursing officers of 58 neurosurgery hospitals, and cooperation was obtained from 3 facilities. Twenty questionnaires were mailed to each hospital, and total 12 responses were received. Family members of patients perceived that they were receiving nursing support. There was a strong positive correlation between the level of confidence in coping with problems and the level of nursing support. In addition, direct emotional support for the family was not correlated with the family’s emotional calmness, suggesting that there may be a difference between the nurses’ perception and the family’s perception.departmental bulletin pape

Changes in University Student’s Attitudes Through Social Contnibution Activities and The Ideal form of Support from Faculty and Staff: Participation in The Future of KYOTO AWARD (2)

Abstract This study is a sequel to the previous report, “Changes in University Students’ Awareness through Social Contribution Activities and the Ideal Support from Faculty and Staff ①.” It examines the issues that have emerged since the initial activities and the changes in students’ awareness, focusing on four members of the “Uzumasa Tongari Group,” which was launched following the Future of KYOTO AWARD. We extracted, categorized, and labeled utterances related to “external collaboration,” “handing over to the next generation,” and “handling of funds” from retrospective interview records six months later. The results revealed that ① in external collaboration, there were “lack of collaboration methods and experiential know-how,” “psychological hurdles,” and “overreliance on specific individuals,” suggesting the need for a collection of case studies and protocols, as well as phased support foward autonomy. ② Regarding handover, the keys were “passing on specific tasks,” “passing on awareness and significance,” and “proactive creativity on the part of those being taken over.” Moreover, sharing practical information face-to-face, making the philosophy visible, and creating an environment that tolerates small-scale discretion and failure were significant. ③ Regarding funding, issues included “unclear procurement methods,” “differences in financial sense between generations,” and “lack of a management system.” Discussions included the need to diversify grants, sponsorships, and monetization, clarify spending rules, and establish accounts and authority, as well as regular reporting. Overall, the three elements circulate among one another, with changes in student awareness at the heart of this connection. Faculty and staff not only provide knowledge, but also act as “accompanying designers” who design psychological safety through reflection sessions and dialogue, supporting the learning cycle of increasing the number of attempts → accumulating small successes and constructive failures → improving self-efficacy → intrinsic motivation. This study is significant as it presents a practical framework for transforming student-led social contribution activities from one-off activities into a sustainable learning ecosystem. However, this study has a limitation. The data were collected from a small sample size, which could lead to recall bias. Future challenges include comparing multiple cases and verifying the effectiveness of introducing this system.departmental bulletin pape

Special Section Kyoto Firm Research 【Article】 A Discussion of the Kyoto Business Ecosystem: Focusing on Human Exchange Channels in the 1980s

departmental bulletin pape

Small Letter Theory, Gestalt, and Schema in Teacher Development: An Approach from the Concept of Teacher Education

    Get PDF
Abstract This study aims to analyze the teaching practices (including the curriculum) in our university’s teacher training program, clarify factors related to the results, contribute to the improvement of teacher development and training programs in Japan. Moreover, the study reveals issues in our university’s teacher training program that can be used for future improvements. Furthermore, the concept of “teacher education” was used during the analysis. Based on this concept, I have come to question my identity as the person in charge of the teacher training program, a scholar, and former teacher, closely examining the ideal relationship between theory and practice. The analysis of the teaching practices (including the curriculum) in our university’s teacher training program aimed to determine whether the author is able to create an environment conducive to nurturing future teachers. Furthermore, the analysis was conducted to determine whether students could draw out the small letter theory or reach the Gestalt and schema stages. Consequently, the following three aspects were clarified: First, many activities in the classroom lead students to draw out the small letter theory and reach the Gestalt and schema stages. Second, generalized models and theories (big letter theory) are used as devices to grasp reality. By having one instructor teach multiple classes and supporting students’ learning over the long term, we were able to provide appropriate advice on how to apply their learning in each class.departmental bulletin pape

Foundation of the Concept of Human Rights

    Get PDF
Abstract Morishima Yutaka asserts that the basis of the concept of human rights, especially the right of resistance, lies in the Christian notion of God. This is because resisting kings or emperors presupposes the existence of a higher authority above them. However, this view implies that human rights cannot exist in societies lacking the Christian concept of God, a conclusion that is undesirable. Human rights should exist in any society. Therefore, this essay explores alternative conceptual foundations for human rights beyond the Christian God, including natural rights, breach of contract, Enlightenment principles, birth rights, and the welfare of the people.departmental bulletin pape
