Vine varieties for white wines in the climate context of the Odobesti vineyard, Romania
Odobeşti Vineyard is one of the most famous and oldest Romanian vineyards, with a focus on white wines. To improve the existing assortment of varieties over time at the Research and Development Station for Viticulture and Vinification, Odobesti (RDSVV, Odobești), four vine varieties were obtained and approved: ʹŞarbaʹ (1972), ʹBăbească griʹ (1975), ʹMioriţaʹ (1980) and ʹVranceaʹ (2018), with superior quality and productive potential and a high capacity to capitalise on the edaphoclimatic conditions specific to this viticultual area. This study presents the behaviour of these varieties of vines in the climatic conditions of the Odobesti Vineyard in the period 2017–2021. The following parameters were studied and determined: the phenological spectrum of the vine, fertility and productivity (% fertile shoots, fertility coefficients, productivity indices), quantity and quality of grape production (grapes/vine, average bunch weight, grape production/vine, sugar content, total acidity and glucoacidimetric index). The data obtained were compared with the ʹSauvignon Blancʹ variety, which is widely grown in this area. The evolution of the vegetation phenophases was conditioned by the climatic factors during the study period. There was a tendency to shorten them due to the increase in air temperature values. The variety ʹVranceaʹ presented a high fertility potential (89.5% fertile shoots), the varieties ʹBăbească griʹ and ʹMiorițaʹ showed a higher productive potential than the control variety ʹSauvignon Blancʹ (6.06–6.12 kg/vine), and the variety ʹȘarbaʹ recorded the highest accumulations in sugars (230.5 g/L). In the climatic context of the Odobești Vineyard, the white wine varieties ʹȘarbaʹ, ʹBăbeasca griʹ, ʹMiorițaʹ and ʹVranceaʹ have demonstrated a valuable agrobiological and technological potential, comparable to that of the ʹSauvignon Blancʹ variety
Incidence of the spread of Salmonella spp. serotypes at some slaughterhouse units
The aim of that study was to analyze and establish the presence and diversity of pathogenic Salmonella spp. serotypes
within poultry slaughtering houses from different regions (districts) of the republic. The research activity was carried
out within a program in collaboration with National Agency for Food Safety and the National Agency for Public Health.
In the title, 75 samples were taken from different districts of the republic. At the same time, 16 samples were taken from
poultry products imported in the Republic of Moldova from Ukraine, Poland, Brazil and Romania. The detection of
bacteria from the genus Salmonella spp. was carried out from the samples of 25 gr. from the carcass and analyzed by
the method (SM EN ISO 6579-1:2017: Microbiology of the food chain for the detection, enumeration and serological
typing of Salmonella bacteria). Serotyping of Salmonella spp. bacteria was performed in the microbiology laboratory of
the National Agency for Public Health. From the total number of 75 samples, 6 samples were positive for salmonella,
which constituted - 8% of the number of examined samples, including samples taken from imported products, with the
predominance of serotypes: S. Lagos, S. Senftenberg and S. Isangi
Cercetări privind potenţialul de creştere a numărului de fructe şi a cantităţii de seminţe la pătlăgelele vinete folosind stimulatori de înflorire
The objective of this paper is to evaluate the potential of some flowering stimulators to improve the quantity of eggplant fruits, but also the quantity of seeds, if the purpose of the culture is the seed production. There were used two varieties of Romanian eggplant, Luiza and Belona, which were treated with four flowering stimulators. The quantity of fruits that reached physiological maturity per plant and per hectare, the weight of fruits per hectare and the weight of seeds per hectare were measured. Some flowering stimulators used for treatments significantly improved fruit yield and seed quantity
Adsorbția Cu (II) din soluție apoasă pe lignină din Iarbă Sarkanda: studii cinetice și de echilibru
In this study, the adsorption of copper ions from aqueous solution onto lignin obtained from unmodified Sarkanda Grass was analyzed. To ensure optimal reaction conditions, the retention of copper ions was tested at different experimental parameters (pH of the initial solution and adsorbent, the dose of adsorbent, the concentration of aqueous solution and contact time). The experimental results have been interpreted using the classic Langmuir and Freundlich isotherms models, as well as two kinetic models (the Lagergren pseudo-first order and the Ho-McKay pseudo-second order models). Based on the analysis of the experimental data, it has been concluded that unmodified Sarkanda Grass lignin can be recommended as an efficient alternative, considering its practical applicability, in the retention of copper ions from aqueous solution, both in terms of the amount of adsorbent and pollutant specie retained, as well as in terms of adsorption time
Chitosan-Based Therapeutic Systems for Superficial Candidiasis Treatment. Synergetic Activity of Nystatin and Propolis
The paper deals with new approaches to chitosan (CS)-based antifungal therapeutic formulations designed to fulfill the requirements of specific applications. Gel-like formulations were prepared by mixing CS dissolved in aqueous lactic acid (LA) solution with nystatin (NYS) powder and/or propolis (PRO) aqueous solution dispersed in glycerin, followed by water evaporation to yield flexible mesoporous (pore widths of 2–4 nm) films of high specific surfaces between 1 × 103 and 1.7 × 103 m2/g. Morphological evaluation of the antifungal films showed uniform dispersion and downsizing of NYS crystallites (with initial sizes up to 50 μm). Their mechanical properties were found to be close to those of soft tissues (Young’s modulus values between 0.044–0.025 MPa). The films presented hydration capacities in physiological condition depending on their composition, i.e., higher for NYS-charged (628%), as compared with PRO loaded films (118–129%). All NYS charged films presented a quick release for the first 10 min followed by a progressive increase of the release efficiency at 48.6%, for the samples containing NYS alone and decreasing values with increasing amount of PRO to 45.9% and 42.8% after 5 h. By in vitro analysis, the hydrogels with acidic pH values around 3.8 were proven to be active against Candida albicans and Candida glabrata species. The time-killing assay performed during 24 h on Candida albicans in synthetic vagina-simulative medium showed that the hydrogel formulations containing both NYS and PRO presented the faster slowing down of the fungal growth, from colony-forming unit (CFU)/mL of 1.24 × 107 to CFU/mL < 10 (starting from the first 6 h)
Cercetări privind patogenicitatea unor tulpini fungice entomopatogene autohtone asupra Trialeurodes vaporariorum Westwood
Trialeurodes vaporariorum Westwood (Hemiptera: Aleyrodidae) belongs to whitefly species that cause significant damage to crops in protected areas and fields in Romania. Biological control with parasitoids and entomopathogenic fungi is an important alternative for the management of this pest. The susceptibility of the fourth larval stage of T. vaporariorum to 3 different strains of Beauveria sp. (Bals.) Vuill. and one strain of Metarhizium anisopliae (Metsch.) Sorok., isolated from natural outbreaks in Romania, was assessed. Conidial suspensions containing 107CFU/mL were applied directly on old nymphal stages of T. vaporariorum using a fine droplet spray nozzle, in a laboratory trial. The results of this study were compared with those obtained by using the commercial strain B. bassiana ATCC 74040 and they indicate that two autochthonous strains have potential as biological agents for the control of T. vaporariorum
Efectul interactiv al produsului ecologic de protecție a plantelor Carbecol asupra conținutului de clorofile și carotinoizi la plantele de tomate
Plant pigments play a key role in the photosynthetic process of plants and their levels provide a physiological marker to evaluate plant health and determine stress response to application of different kinds of plant protection products. The aim of this work was to determine the response of leaf chlorophylls and carotenoids content in tomato plants to application of ecological plant protection product Carbecol alone or in combination with humic substances Ecolit. A greenhouse experiment was conducted in triplicate by employing distinct treatments of both Carbecol and biofertilizer Ecolit. Results showed that application of Carbecol increased the content of leaf pigments in tomato plants. The highest concentration of green photosynthetic pigments concentrations was registered in treatment with integrated application of Carbecol and Ecolit. Hence, experimental results demonstrated that the photosynthetic pigment status is affected by the application of plant protection product and humic substances
The perspectives to use an organic extract from the Fabaceae family to control the maize leaf weevil (Tanymecus dilaticollis gyll) at the maize crop in Romania
In this paper, we present results of two years study, in the field conditions, at NARDI Fundulea, located in the southeast of Romania, concerning the effectiveness of the biological control of the maize leaf weevils (Tanymecus dilaticollis
Gyll) at maize crops, with organic insecticide on a base of plant extracts from the Fabaceae family (0.3 %) applied
both, like seed coating and foliar spray. It has assessed weevils attack intensity at maize plants on a scale from 1 (plants
not attacked) to 9 (plants complete destroyed), saved plants percent at 30 days from maize emergence and plants height
at 50 days from plants emergence. At maize untreated plants, the weevils attack intensity was 3.16 in 2020 and 5.71 in
2021, while at variants treated with organic insecticide on a base of plant extracts from the Fabaceae family the weevils
attack intensity ranged from 3.08 to 3.14 in 2020 and from 5.65 to 5.68 in 2021. The lowest value of the weevils attack
intensity was registered in the case of the variant with seeds treated with imidacloprid active ingredient (I=2.56 in 2020;
I=4.46 in 2021). The highest values of saved plants percent were registered in the case of the variant with seeds treated
with imidacloprid (94.04 % in 2020, respectively 86.80 % in 2021). In this two-year study, in field conditions, in the
southeast of Romania, it hasn’t registered significant statistical differences concerning weevils attack registered at
untreated maize plants and maize variants treated with organic insecticide on a base of plant extracts from the Fabaceae
family (0.3 %). Both years haven’t registered significant statistical differences concerning plant heights at 50 days from
the maize emergence
Antioxidant molecule useful in the stabilization of nanoparticles in water suspension
The preparation of antioxidant-coated magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) has been studied to improve their biocompatibility, i.e. reducing negative side effects. The theoretical study was focused on the interaction of gallic acid (GA) with ionic iron at the surface of nanoparticles that increased reactivity and favors the uniform dispersion in water of magnetic nanoparticles and the interaction with other molecules of biomedical interest. Experimentally, we worked with an optimal method of coating the MNP with GA at 80°C which led to fine granulation highlighted by TEM, preservation of good crystallinity, proven by XRD as well as magnetic properties suitable for biomedical applications based on magnetically targeted guidance. The study of nanotoxicity was focused on the fate of MNPs eliminated in the biosphere, so the influence on photosynthesis in seedlings in early ontogenetic stages was sought. The small variation, with a positive trend, of the efficiency of photosynthesis was correlated with the balancing of the toxic effects, of ROS generation catalyzed by iron ions from the MNP surface by means of the antioxidant character of GA
Noi surse de germoplasmă de Solanum din clasa Leptostemonum conservate și utilizate în programul de ameliorare din cadrul băncii de resurse genetice vegetale Buzău, România
The cultivation of aubergine is widespread in Romania. It is one of the most consumed vegetables in our country, especially in autumn. It can be found in various traditional Romanian dishes - zacusca, aubergine salad - but also in other popular dishes. There is a high demand from consumers but also from producers for new varieties of aubergine, which has contributed to the intensification of acclimatization and breeding work on the Solanum genus at PGRB Buzău. In order to diversify the complex of eggplants cultivated and consumed in our country, PGRB has introduced new lines of Solanum macrocarpon and Solanum aethiopicum into the core collection. They have shown a good capacity for acclimatization to the pedoclimatic conditions of our country, obtaining very good results in terms of growth and development, and food and seed production capacity. Solanum macrocarpon and Solanum aethiopicum have been cultivated in the experimental fields of PGRB Buzău since 2019, opening new horizons in terms of enriching the assortment of Solanum cultivated in Romania
