Field screening of European avena genetic resources collections
Oat is a crop with an
important European history and tradition.
The high value of oat in human nutrition,
which is unique among cereals, is widely
recognized and confirmed by health claims
issued in various countries. It is based on a
high content and quality of proteins,
considerable content of fat with high
proportion of polyunsaturated fatty acids,
high contents of dietary fiber, especially the
soluble, highly viscous mixed linked
(1->3)(1->4)-ß-D-glucans, which hypocholesterolemic
effects, minerals and
antioxidants, especially tocopherols,
tocotrienols and avenanthramides. The main
goal of this paper is on characterization and
evaluation of accessions from European ex
situ collections for different traits, which are
important for the quality of oats in human
nutrition. All field experiments carried out
in experimental field of Suceava Genebank,
during 2014-2016. Field screening of
genetic material was performed by using
several IPGRI descriptors: days to heading;
growth habit; lodging at immature and
mature stages; shape of panicle; lemma
color; length of panicle; panicle
numbers/m2; plant height; productivity;
(g/m2); seed weight (g) and test weight
(kg/hl). A wide variability was observed for
all used descriptors, and some genotypes
potentially interesting for breeding
programs were identified (landraces and
obsolete cultivars)
Evaluation of antifungal susceptibility of some Candida SPP. Strains using Multodisc antifungal disk system
The aim of this study was to evaluate the antifungal susceptibility of 33 Candida spp. isolates to classic antifungals included in Multodisc® system kits (Liofilchem – Italy). The research was conducted during January-June 2014 in the Department of Microbiology, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Cluj-Napoca, Romania. Identification was made from 48 hrs isolated colonies, using microscopic and biochemical methods (API Candida). From the total of 33 tested strains, 13 were represented by Candida albicans, 9 strains were identified as Candida krusei, 6 were Candida tropicalis 3 Candida catenulata and 2 were Candida parapsilosis. The antifungals included in the disk were represented by Econazole, Nystatin, Griseofulvin, Amphotericin B, Flucytosine, Miconazole, Metronidazole and Ketoconazole. The susceptibility test principle was based on the disk diffusion test, while the interpretation was performed determining the inhibition area diameter. The most efficient antifungal was represented by Ketoconazole with an average of the inhibition area of 26.4 mm followed by Miconazole with 23.4 mm and Econazole with 22.7 mm. The least efficient antifungals were represented by Metronidazole, Griseofulvin and Nystatin
Impact of climatic conditions on yield and plant diseases of winter wheat in North-Eastern Romania
Climate elements, such as temperature and atmospheric precipitation, are driving factors in plant diseases developmenet
and vary widely between years. Weather factors play a decisive role in achieving higher yields and in the development
of plant pathogens. Besides temperature and atmospheric precipitation, wind and relative humidity of the air, play an
important role in the development of diseases. In this study are presented the results obtained during the period 2015-
2018, in the northeastern part of Romania, Iasi county. During the three agricultural years studied, the climatic
conditions were different from one year to the next.
The influence of climatic factors was observed as a result of differences in production yields and the presence of the
pathogens and the frequency with which they were manifested. In view of climate change and unfavorable influence on
the agricultural sector, cultivation of the most suitable varieties can lead to higher yields, even in years when climatic
conditions are unfavorable
Computed tomography evaluation of lung parenchyma in dogs
The imaging examination of the respiratory apparatus is a difficult exam, assuming detailed knowledge of the anatomy of the chest cavity. The respiratory system is in constant contact with the environment, being responsible for the facility of gas exchange between the body and the environment, which also implies an increased interaction between the lung and the pathogens in the environment. The radiological examination is the main exam in assessing the pathology of the thoracic cavity and pulmonary parenchyma. With the evolution of technology, the CT test has begun to be used more and more frequently in veterinary medicine. The limitation of the radiological examination in the pulmonary cavity examination is the biplanar image and overlapping of the lung structures. In human medicine CT examination of the lung cavity is the gold standard in the diagnosis of pathology located at this level
Efects of soil erosion on agricultural land: a curent global and national analysis
Loss of soil through erosion on agriultural land is a widespread problem, reducing primarily the productivity of all
natural ecosystems as well as agricultural ecosystems, forests and pastures. In parallel with population growth, soil
erosion, water availability, climate change, biodiversity loss are considered as the main environmental issues around the
world. Although soil erosion along the geological era occurred at a slow pace in natural ecosystems, the cumulative
impact on soil quality over billions of years has been significant. However, even soil erosion with low annual rates over,
the years can lead to the displacement of enormous quantities of soil.
Soil erosion has been recognized as a major problem that threatens the sustainability of agriculture for a long time, and
the magnitude of the problem can be properly assessed. The direct effects of erosion are not limited only to damage to
agriculture. The sediment produced by erosion also pollutes water flows with sediments and nutrients, thereby reducing
water quality
Cercetări privind producerea băuturilor de tip bitter
The present study has as main objective the evaluation of the methods of obtaining a bitter type curative beverage to evaluate the possibility of superior utilization of the medicinal plants. Aromatic and condimentary plants have been used. Among the plants used: Angelica archangelica, artichoke (Cynara scolymus), basil (Ocimum basilicum), Thymus serpyllum, Achillea millefolium, Juniperus communis, Hyssopus officinalis, Salvia officinalis, Origanum vulgare, Glycyrrhiza glabra, Mentha piperita, Melissa officinalis and Fir resin. The variants used were V1 -sweetening sugar, V2 -sweetening with liquorice V3 -unsweetened and V4 -alcohol of 50 %vol. The analyzes were performed according to scientific literature. Alcoholic strength, pH, phenolic compounds and sensory analysis were evaluated. The study shows that it is appropriate to prepare an herbal beverage. The medicinal plants used imprinted the beverage with hints of wild flowers, coniferous trees and other aromaticplants. The liquorice sweetened variant was the most appreciated by the taster
Ethanolic extract and essential oils from Monarda fistulosa L. with ovicidal, insecticidal and antifeedant activity against Colorado potato beetle
Species Monarda fistulosa L. (Lamiaceae), which is currently successfully cultivated in the conditions of the Republic of
Moldova, is of great interest due to the content of various components that possess biological activity. Studying the effect
of ethanolic extract and essential oils from M fistulosa in the laboratory conditions showed the presence of ovicidal,
insecticidal, and antifeedant properties against the Colorado potato beetle. Hatching of larvae of L. decemlineata in all
experimental variants was completely suppressed (100 %) in comparison with the control. Essential oils showed higher
insecticidal activity than ethanol extract. The death of the larvae of L. decemlineata in the variant with 5 % ethanol extract
is 13.3 %, and in the variants with essential oils (with and without timoquinone) – 93.3 and 60.0%, respectively. It was
established that the essential oil with thymoquinone has a higher insecticidal properties (by 33.3%) than the oil without
thymoquinone.Mathematical analyses revealed some significant differences of insecticidal activity between variants:
ethanolic extract, essential oils and control (р≤0,05, LSD0.05= 6.7). The larvae in the variants with essential oils did not
feed on the treated leaves of potatoes. In the variant with ethanolic extract treatment (EE), the larvae tried to feed, but the
damage to the leaf plate did not exceed 10 %. In the control the leaves damage was 100 %
