Some sugar beet cultivars behavior to the attack of Cercospora Beticola Sacc. fungus under climatic conditions from Neamţ county, Romania
Cercospora leaf spot, caused by the fungus Cercospora beticola Sacc. is the most important disease of sugar beet (Beta
vulgaris L.) worldwide. Cercospora leaf spot is a polycyclic disease that can cause multiple infections during the
vegetation period. Preliminary observations and data regarding sugar beet yield and quality suggestes a differential
behavior of the cultivars to the Cercospora beticola Sacc. fungus infection. The experience highlights the behavior of
the studied sugar beet cultivars to the attack of the Cercospora beticola Sacc. fungus and it was located in the Research
and Agricultural Research and Development Station (SCDA Secuieni), Neamt County. The biological material used is
represented of 36 sugar beet cultivars that are belong to Strube D & S GmbH and their placement was randomized in 4
repetitions. Considering the climatic conditions and applied culture technology, the recorded results regarding the
behavior of the 36 sugar beet cultivars have shown both different levels of resistance and similar to the attack of
Cercospora beticola Sacc. fungus
Parametri de calitate a fructelor de măr comercializate în Iaşi
Apples are the most consumedfruits in Romania, all over the year. In the present work were studied fruits of 7 apple cultivars (Golden Delicious, Idared, Jonagold, Florina, Jonathan, Starkrimson, Renet) commercialized in 3 open-markets from the city of Iaşiat the end of April. The main analysed quality parameters were: soluble solids content, acidity, total sugars, sugar/acid ratio. Renet cultivar proved the highest total sugars and soluble solids contents, while Florina, the lowest. The most acid was Idared (Sârca) and the less acid were Starkrimson and Golden Delicious. The best values for sugar/acid ratio (over 75) were obtained by Starkrimson and Golden Delicious, and the smallest ones (less than 33) byIdared (Sârca), followed by Jonathan, Jonagold and Idared (Suceava)
Studiul influenţei cultivarului şi a densităţii plantelor/ha asupra producţiei de seminţe/ha la fasolea de păstăi urcătoare, în condiţiile de mediu ale S.C.D.L. Iernut
The paper presents the research results from a bifactorial experiment carried out at Vegetable Research and Development Station Iernut. Experimental factors were four cultivars (Mădărăşeni cultivar and three perspective lines –Alina, Ghibolească and Viola-2) and three crop density determined by the number of plants in a hole (2 ,3 and 4 plants / hole). The goal of the experiment was to evaluate the influence of the two factors on the seed production. The best result wasobtained for all the cultivars and a density oftwo plants/hole

Evaluarea diferitelor metode de uscare a florilor de Eryngium planum şi Echinops ritro
The plants of the genres Eryngium and Echinops assume distinctive ornamental qualities, being appreciated both in landscaping design and in floral art. In this paper are presented results regarding the drying of cut flowers obtained from Eryngium planum and Echinops ritro, with the purpose of utilization as immortelles. The drying of the inflorescences was achieved by two methods, respectively, simple drying in the darkand using a desiccant (silica gel). The results obtained showthat for both species, the drying time is shorter and the water is eliminated in a higher percentage when using silicate. Eryngium inflorescences dried with silica gel have more intense blue tone; at Echinops ritro have been obtained the immortelles with similar aesthetic features with both drying methods
From Romanian apple to juice and apple cider – a comparative study and physicochemical analyses
Romania has a long tradition in the production of high quality apples, which can be processed into a large variety of
soft drinks.
The aim of the study was to establish the physicochemical characteristics of some apple varieties growing in Romania,
together with their corresponding juice and cider, regarding polyphenols, antioxidant capacity, pH and refractive
index. Some samples of apple, apple juices and corresponding ciders were analysed using Folin Ciocalteu method for
total polyphenols content (TPC) and CUPRAC method to evaluate the antioxidant capacity (TAC). For all cases,
moisture content, sugars (like °Brix), pH and alcoholic content were recorded. Compared to fresh apples, a significant
decrease of the antioxidant capacity measured by CUPRAC assay and TPC for cider was observed. Also, statistically
significant differences between samples were found. During processing of apples to juice and cider, a difference in the
antioxidant capacity of the final product was noticed.
Our study shows that processing apples to juice and further to cider has the effect of drastically decreasing the TAC to
2-6% of the initial apples TAC, depending on the apple variety
Stability analyses of fibres yield of kenaf using multiple biometrical models
Multiple models have been
used to examine stability in many crops, but
little of such exits for kenaf. Relationship of
stability estimates of various models reveals
the importance of one or more estimates for
reliable predictions of cultivar behaviour
and stability. This study evaluated 33 kenaf
genotypes across six location for core and
bast fibre yield stability using four models.
Kenaf were grown in a four row plot, 5 m
each, at 0.2 m within row and 0.5 m
between rows in the trial laid out in
randomized complete block design with
three replications. Twenty plants were
randomly harvested per plot at 12 weeks
after planting and processed to fibres. Dry
core fibre weight (CFW) and bast fibre
weight (BFW) were taken. Data collected
were pooled across locations and subjected
to analysis of variance. Genotypes stability
were estimated using Finlay-Wilkinson,
Wricke’s ecovalence (Wi), Kang’s rank sum
and superiority index models. Correlations
among the weights and stability models
were performed. Significant differences
existed in the genotypes (G) (p< 0.01),
environments (E) and G×E for CFW and
BFW. Partitioning the G×E showed that
genotypes linear response and deviation
from the mean were significant for CFW
and BFW. Significant and positive
correlation existed between Finlay-
Wilkinson and Kang’s rank sum (0.570***),
Wi (0.615***) and superiority index
(0.582***) for CFW. Significant correlations
also existed between the efficacy of Kang’s
rank sum and Wi (0.569***), and with
superiority index (0.779***). Kang’s rank
sum correlated with Finlay-Wilkinson
(0.345**), while Wi model had correlation
with Finlay-Wilkinson (0.538**) and Kang’s
rank sum (0.318**) for the BFW. All the
models correlated with one another. Any of
the models is sufficient to select stable
genotypes in kenaf fibre yield breeding

Evaluarea rezistenţei la desprindere şi compresiune a bacelor unor soiuri noi Vitis vinifera L. pentru struguri de masă
Since quality requirements for table grapes are closely relatedto their mechanical characteristics, the aim ofthis work was the assessment of berry resistance to detachment from the pedicel and its resistance to compression at five new Vitis vinifera L. cultivars for table grapes: Gelu, Milcov, Napoca, Splendid and Transilvania. The determinations made on the mature berries consisted in the analysis of the normal pressing force and the deformation under its influence, as well as the force required for the detachment of berries from the pedicels, using a CETR UMT-2 tribometer. Grape berries with higher weight and volume and larger diameter (Transilvania cv.) incurred a higher mechanical deformation, while long berries (Gelu cv.) showed higher resistance to detachment from the pedicel probably due to a more pronounced development of vascular bundles, indicating a higher resistance of grapes to handling, packing, transport and storage
Contributions of agroforestry on socioeconomic conditions of farmers in Central Punjab, Pakistan – a case study
Agroforerstry (AF) in the
farmlands of Punjab (Pakistan) is a
tradition, but it was practiced without any
proper methodology. From last few years,
AF practices have become popular in
Punjab. Especially in the rural areas woody
biomass is being used as a major source of
energy. The study was designed to examine
the contributions of AF on the socioeconomic
conditions of the farmers in the
central Punjab of Pakistan. District Chiniot
was selected as the universe of study and a
detailed survey was conducted in the three
tehsiles by interviewing 150 randomly
selected farmers with the use of a wellstructured
questionnaire. In addition,
secondary data was also collected from
district agriculture offices. Chi-Square test
was used for quantitative data analysis.
Results showed that farmer’s annual income
and household status was improved after
practicing AF. Reasonably less poor farmers
have more income increase than the poor
farmers due to an extra investment, but
income generation helped poor farmers to
maintain the minimal living standards.
Farmers perceived the advantage of trees
immensely and the large scale farmers
taking this as a genuine source of income. In
adoption of AF, attitude of the farmers was
independent of family size and settlement
period, but was dependent on the occupation
and number of livestock holding. The study
suggested that, in the present financial
scenario of the poor farmers, planting of
suitable tree species with multiple benefits
is an escape way to come out of the vicious
circle of poverty. Along with that
agroforestry can play a vital role in
increasing the vegetation cover in forest
deficient countries. Extension services and
awareness programs should be arranged in the areas where people have negative
attitude about AF practices, because the
cultivated fields are the best places to grow
the tree with crops. Moreover, subsidies and
income generating project should be
launched to motivate people towards AF
