Swampy soils in the Lower Dniester meadow of Moldova
Swampy soils in the Lower Dniester floodplain are distinguished by high biogenesis at the early stage of their development. This is due to the fact that not abiotic rocks are involved in the primary soil formation, but redeposited of river basin erosion products, which are the upper, most fertile soils - grey soils, chernozems and alluvial soils. The swampy soils at the beginning of the silty stage and long before the vegetation settled on them already contain enough organic matter and all the necessary nutrients for plants. For the same reason, the development rate of most floodplain swampy-silty soils turns out to be extremely high fertility and they acquire signs of zonal soil formation relatively quickly. The phenomena of salinization and alkalinization of swampy-silty soils are confined to a later stage of their development (meadow-swampy). Usually, salinization starts from the marginal periphery of the marshes and very slowly penetrates into the inland areas of the floodplain. The riverbed edge of the marshes can remain non-saline for a very long time. Without drainage the development of swampy soils, the salinization begins immediately after its embankment and drainage. The inevitability of this process has been confirmed by the improvement practice of melioration the swampy soils in the lower reaches of Dniester floodplain
New Ti-6Al-2Nb-2Ta-1Mo alloy as implant biomaterial: In vitro corrosion and in vivo osseointegration evaluations
Over the last decade, new titanium alloys are developed in different areas of implantology. The aim of this study was to characterize a new Ti-Al-Nb-Ta-Mo based alloy, with high potential for being used as a biomedical implant. The evaluation of Ti-6Al-2Nb-2Ta-1Mo was performed both in vitro (by monitoring its corrosion resistance in Hank's Balanced Salt Solution, HBSS) and in vivo (by evaluating the osseointegration following rabbit tibia implantation), by comparison with titanium and Ti-6Al-7Nb alloy. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) data showed high impedance values for all titanium samples after 1 week immersion times in HBSS at 37 °C. According to EIS analysis, the corrosion resistance of the Ti-6Al-2Nb-2Ta-1Mo alloy immersed in HBSS was higher compared to the standard cp-Ti or with the Ti-6Al-7Nb alloy. In addition, a higher degree of osseointegration was achieved by the Ti-6Al-2Nb-2Ta-1Mo alloy, thus probing that a higher resistance to electrochemical corrosion provided enhanced protection to the implant surface against biodegradation, thus positively affecting the qualitative and quantitative evolution of bone tissue repair
Laterally located scleral dermoid in a cat: Case report
A 4-month old Scottish Fold female kitten is referred for consultation from another clinic in Iasi for an
abnormal presence of hair in the right eye. During ophthalmic consultation, we could observe the long hairs
extending onto the corneal surface, rising from the bulbar conjunctiva from the outer lateral corner of the
right eye. All the diagnostic steps of an ophthalmic examination were followed, and surgical treatment
followed shortly after, as the best option. Three weeks after surgery, the kitten is recovering well, with her
right eye fully functional. The aim of this case report is to present this rather rare ocular pathology to fellow
practitioners and offer an overview of literature
Variations of chlorophyll content at Abies Alba and Nepeta Pannonica species according to phenophase and harvesting area
Chlorophylls from plants are photosynthetic pigments. Their quantity offers valuable informations about photosynthetic activity, growing and developing of plants. Photosynthetic pigments decrease quantitatively during senescence process or in stress conditions. The present study has been realized in laboratory conditions with material
harvested from spontaneous flora. The purpose of this research was the investigation of variations of chlorophyll content from samples of biological material collected from Nepeta pannonica L. and Abies alba Mill. plants, from Câmpulung Moldovenesc and Cacica
areas, Suceava county, Romania. The targeted phenophases were growth and flowering. There were realized acetonic extracts from samples for spectrophotometric determinations. Obtained data were processed to estabilish chlorophyll a and b content. There were observed that at Abies alba species, from both locations, the chlorophyll a content grew during flowering phenophase, while the chlorophyll b content had little variations. At Nepeta pannonica species, the chlorophyll a and b content decreased
visibly during the flowering, due to stress. Leaves of plants from this species presented a intense green color in the growing phenophase, while during flowering phenophase they had a purple or yellow coloration. Obtained results revealed a different dynamics of chlorophyll content at studied species
Assessment of the quality of secondary production from different agricultural crops used as primary material for densified solid biofuels
The quality of densified solid biofuels is directly influenced by the biomass characteristics used as feedstock. Under the conditions of the Republic of Moldova, the main source of raw material used in the production of briquettes and pellets is represented by agricultural residues and those from the food industry. For this reason, it is important to know the
qualitative characteristics of these residues. The purpose of this study is to highlight the main qualitative parameters of agricultural residues used as energy sources specific for the Republic of Moldova. The issue of research refers to the estimation of the possibilities of using indigenous agricultural residues as a raw material for the production of densified
solid biofuels with ENPlus 3 characteristics. The investigative methodology is based on a complex study, organized and realized in the Solid Biofuels Laboratory of the State Agrarian University of Moldova. The paper presents the results of the research regarding the estimation of the calorific value, the moisture content, the ash content and the chemical analysis of the main agricultural residues from the agrarian sector depending on their
origin and specificity, emphasizing on herbaceous, arboreal and vines residues. The study showed that only about 10% of the residues from agricultural activities can be used directly to produce bio briquettes and pellets with qualitative indicators according to the requirements of ENPlus 3. It should be noted that practically, all agricultural and vineyard residues can be used as a raw material to the production of ENPlus certified densified solid biofuels, and herbaceous residues can only be used in mixtures with other types of vegetable biomass or require pre-treatment before densification, for example, by torrefaction
Evaluarea sortimentului de cireş in Romania
Sweet cherryis one of the most representativeculture in Romania and the North East region, is the most important production region in the country. Vegetativegrowth, productivity and fruit quality of ninesweet cherry cultivars ‘Kordia’, ‘Karina’, ‘Regina’, ‘Ferrovia’, ‘Skeena’, ‘Summit’,‘Sunburst’,‘Canada Giant’ and ‘Sweetheart’were evaluated. Trees grafted on ‘Gisela 5’ rootstock were planted in 2010 in Iasi. The productivity of the cultivarswas assessed for fourproduction years. The productivity of early cultivars was reduced in some years due to unfavourable weather conditions in the period before or during ripening. The cultivars will be discussed in relation to the less favourable conditions for sweet cherry production in Romania due to climatic change and the suitability of rootstock ‘Gisela 5’
Aprecierea influenţei factorilor asupra indexului vigorii-i, tratament x genotip x durata păstrării la sămânţa de porumb (Zea Mays L.)
The size of the values of the parameters that characterize the quality of the seed from the aspect of thephysiological and physical manifestation, has a very important role in the measures to improve the cultivation technologies for obtaining safe and superior harvests qualitatively and quantitatively, therefore it is necessary to promote a seed with high biological value, high production capacity, resistance to diseases, pests and stress conditions. The particularity of the seeds destined for sowing is that they can be kept in different forms for a longer period of time, offering the safety of production. Analysing the data by the size of the range and the size of the coefficient of variation (Cv) it can be seen that there are obvious differences between the variants, regarding the value of these indicators. There were large decreases in the values of the index the force registered in this stage "after 12 months", in the variant treated with fungicide + insecticide, except for Turda 200 and Turda Star hybrids
Synthesis and Characterization of Inclusion Complex of Diminazene Aceturate with b-Ciclodextrin
Cyclodextrins (CD) are macrocyclic biopolymers with potential applications in the delivery of small and macro-molecular therapeutic agents. Despite the potent host-guest inclusion property, their inherent lack of cellular binding ability has limited applications in drug delivery. Herein, we functionalized b-cyclodextrin (b-CD) with diminazene aceturate(DIMA), which are bioactive molecules, widely distributed some cells, and responsible for antiprotozoal activity. The inclusion complex of DIMA with b-CD was confirmed with textural, thermogravimetric, calorimetric, spectroscopic, and microscopic techniques. Thus, the proposed inclusion complex b-CD-DIMA system could be used as a site-specific drug delivery carrier
Boar freeze-dried semen evaluation using Spermac staining
Sperm freeze-drying is a new and alternative method to preserve male gametes in refrigeration or at room temperature. In order to protect sperm integrity special protection is required. The aim of our research was to examine the effect of vitamin C and rosmarinic acid on the spermatozoa integrity after freeze-drying the probes. We analyzed the acrosome reaction and the morphological aspects of boar spermatozoa form three different breed (Pietrain, Large White and Landrace) after rehydration. We observed that the highest percent of spermatozoa with intact acrosome and the least spermatozoa anomalies were in samples were rosmarinic acid was added. As preliminary results we could state that adding antioxidants protects spermatozoa from oxidative stress
