    No full text
In this study, oil sunflower production irrigated by groundwater was analysed in regards to the energy efficiency and greenhouse gas (GHG) emission. This research was performed at 19 farms growing sunflower under the irrigation area of Konya-Başgötüren town groundwater irrigation cooperative for 2019 vegetation cycle. The farmers applying drip and sprinkler irrigation systems were 6 and 13, respectively and they applied different irrigation levels. In that regard, by grouping farmers in accordance of irrigation methods and irrigation water regimes, separate treatments were obtained. In the context of the research, inputs used, amount of inputs as well as yield were determined individually in the farmer basis. By using unit energy equivalent of inputs and GHG emission factors energy input and GHG emission were determined and were assessed by using the relevant indicators. In results, sunflower production with drip irrigation system was found more successful in regard to the energy productivity. None difference was found between both the irrigation systems in term of the environmental impact. Drip irrigation with 250-350 mm water application was found the most successful in respect to the yield, energy productivity and low GHG emission

    No full text
Educational management refers to the theory and practice of general management, applied to the education system and process, school organizations and student classes. However, given the aims of the education system, the complexity of the educational process, the variety and extent of resources involved and the specificity of the final product which is not concrete and tangible, educational management has a special specificity, highlighted mainly by what theorists call the human component of process and places it at the center and base of the educational company. It includes a set of principles and functions, rules and methods of management that ensure the achievement of the objectives of the education system (as a whole or at the level of components), at the highest possible standards of quality and efficiency. Promoting training programs, reintegrating adults into vocational education and training through "second chance" programs, as well as extending apprenticeships and other on-the-job training systems are measures that have the potential to bring about change. National strategic objectives in vocational education and training to provide counseling services for all students in the pre-university education system, to strengthen key competences, as well as to promote and reward excellence in initial vocational education and training make vocational and technical education to be considered a first choice

Romania is known among the main European honey producers, due to the variety of landforms as well as the diversity of the flora. Thirty-four honey samples of the acacia, linden and multifloral types, produced in eastern Romania and collected during 2013–2018, were physico chemically analyzed using methods provided by the national and EU standards. The results of water-insoluble solids, color and refractive index were found to be 0.023–0.131%, 0.3–76.4 mm Pfund and 1.485–1.499, respectively. The moisture content ranged between 15.20% and 20.77%, solid substances content ranged between 79.23% and 84.80% and total soluble substances content ranged between 77.83 ◦Brix and 83.26 ◦Brix. The obtained values of specific gravity were from 1.414 to 1.450 g/cm3 , pH ranged from 3.673 to 5.503 and free acidity ranged between 2.4 meq and 50 meq kg−1 . The ash content and the electrical conductivity varied between 0.030 and 0.543% and 130 and 679 µS cm−1 , respectively. Pearson0 s correlation analysis showed an intense association of the ash content with electrical conductivity (r = 0.81). Our findings reveal the qualitative level of Romanian honey and the variation in quality parameters due to factors such as geographical region, climatic conditions, botanical origin and handling or storage conditions

This study was conducted in a dairy cattle farm in Bistrița-Năsăud County. Assessments were made over the fodder used to feed dairy cows and mycotoxic load. Feed samples were collected two times, first in the fall of 2019 and again in the fall of 2020 from different places from the same batch and they were conditioned shortly after harvest by drying and grinding. A total of 8 samples were collected from the farm and they represent the total of all feed used in the livestock feed in that farm. All of the forages were organoleptically analyzed, we determined the chemical composition; dry matter, crude protein composition, ether extract, crude cellulose, crude ash and nitrogen free extract. Zearalenone and Total Aflatoxins were also determined from each of the samples using RIDASCREEN® test, which are an competitive enzymelinked immunosorbent assays. Zearalenone was detected in all the samples analyzed with values between 43.83 and 1054.03 μg/kg in 2019 and in 2020 with values between 103.45 and 1818.23 μg/kg. 75% of the samples analyzed in 2019, 50% of the samples analyzed in 2020 exceeding the maximum permissible limit in the European Union (EU). Total Aflatoxins were detected in all the samples analyzed, with values between 0.361 and 2.35 μg/kg, without exceeding the maximum permissible limit in EU

Cortisol and Oxytocin Could Predict Covert Aggression in Some Psychotic Patients

    No full text
Background: The covert or indirect type of aggression has a risk of converting in violent acts and, considering that, it is very important to identify it in order to apply effective preventive measures. In cases of psychotic patients, the risk of becoming violent is harder to predict, as even neuter stimuli may be perceived as threat and trigger aggression. Treating all the psychiatric patients as potential aggressive subjects is not the best preventive measure as only a few of them are aggressive and this measure may further enhance the stigma on mentally ill patients. There is a current need for better understanding of covert aggression and to find objective measures, such as biological markers, that could be indicative of potential violent behavior. In this work, we try to investigate the role of cortisol and oxytocin as potential biomarkers of aggression in patients with psychosis. Material and Methods: We analyzed the level of peripheral oxytocin (pg/mL) and cortisol level (ng/mL) in 28 psychotic patients (they were not on psychotropic treatment at the moment of admission and those with substance abuse or personality disorder were excluded from the study) and correlated it with the intensity of aggression reported by the patient (overt and covert type) using the Overt Covert Aggression Inventory and the level of observed aggression of the patient in the past 7 days (rated by the health care provider) using the Modified Overt Aggression Scale. Results: We found that psychotic patients with a higher level of covert aggression had a lower level of cortisol (61.05 ± 8.04 ng/mL vs. 216.33 ± 12.6.9 ng/mL, p ˂ 0.01) and a higher level of oxytocin (102.87 ± 39.26 vs. 70.01 ± 25.07, p = 0.01) when compared with patients with a lower level of covert aggression. Furthermore, we observed significant negative correlation between cortisol and covert aggression (r = −0.676, p < 0.001) and between oxytocin and covert type of aggression (r = 0.382, p = 0.04). Moreover, we found that a lower level of cortisol together with a higher level of oxytocin are significant predictors of a style of internalized manifestation of aggression, with the predictive model explaining 55% of the variant of the internalized manifestation of aggression (F (2.25) = 17.6, p < 0.001, β = 0.35, R2 = 55.2). We did not find significant correlations between cortisol and overt aggression, and neither between oxytocin and overt aggression. Positive correlations were also found between the overt type of self-reported aggression and overt aggression reported by the rater (r = 0.459, p = 0.01). Conclusions: The importance of a predictive model in understanding covert aggression is imperative and the results of our study show that oxytocin and cortisol warrant to be further investigated in establishing a definitive predictive model for covert aggression

The occurrence of viral diseases in a shelter may certainly be devastating to the health and welfare of animals and can create serious problems even for the best equipped additions. The purpose of this study was to investigate the incidence of infectious diseases in stray dogs in paddocks located in Bacău, Vrancea and Galați counties. The researches aimed to identify the causative agents of viruses in dogs in shelters located in the three counties in eastern Romania, Bacau, Vrancea and Galati, analysis of diagnostic methods used in the units, analysis of predisposing factors and analysis of surveillance and control measures. Parvovirus was the main viral disease observed among young dogs, aged between 1-7 months, its incidence varying between 28.18% and 68.18%. The diagnosis was established on the basis of the clinical picture, as well as by rapid tests, based on immunochromatography. Mortality in dogs diagnosed with parvovirus, in the 3 shelters included in the study, ranged from 32.72% to 66.66%. Other viral diseases, such as Carre's disease and kennel cough, were also diagnosed in the shelters included in the study. Promoting the vaccination of dogs and the control of the canine population by sterilization in the three counties included in the study can contribute to the prevention of viral diseases among stray dogs. The study provides support for preventive management actions aimed at protecting the health of stray dogs in public and private shelters

    Get PDF
Recent trends in the food industry combined with novel methods in agriculture could transform rowan into a valuable raw material with potential technological applications. Thus, the aim of this research was to investigate the content of bioactive compounds in its fruits and to assess the color and antioxidant stability of the extracts prepared from such fruits during various thermal treatments and at different pH and ionic strength values. Various spectrophotometric methods, HPLC, and capillary electrophoresis were used to quantify the concentrations of bioactive compounds—polyphenols, carotenoids, organic acids, and to assess antioxidant activity and color. The results show that rowan berries contain circa 1.34–1.47 g/100 g of polyphenols among which include catechin, epicatechin, ferulic acid methyl ester, procyanidin B1, etc.; ca 21.65 mg/100 g of carotenoids including zeaxanthin, b-cryptoxanthin, all-trans-b-carotene, and various organic acids such as malic, citric, and succinic, which result in a high antioxidant activity of 5.8 mmol TE/100 g. Results also showed that antioxidant activity exhibited high stability when the extract was subjected to various thermal treatments, pHs, and ionic strengths, while color was mainly impacted negatively when a temperature of 100 C was employed. This data confirms the technological potential of this traditional, yet often overlooked species
