    ProQuest One Psychology

    Get PDF
ProQuest One Psychology is an extensive aggregate of multiformat resources in psychology and counseling. The product brings together a wide range of content, source, and material types culled from multiple ProQuest platforms to offer the convenience of a single point of access for research in the discipline from the undergraduate to graduate levels. A hallmark feature of the ProQuest One Psychology is its ability to integrate with APA products, such as APA PsycInfo and APA PsycBooks, to which users have a subscription from ProQuest. Additional features that differentiate the product are the availability of Topic Pages and specialized search filters designed to enhance exploration and discovery of resources. Users will appreciate the intuitive ProQuest platform, along with the company’s proprietary eBook reader and video playback functionality. Institutions will benefit from customized pricing to allow for existing, overlapping ProQuest content in their collection. Limitations in currency of eBook holdings, minimal content in tests and measures, and the requirement to switch to APA products via the ProQuest platform for those with subscriptions on other platforms may detract from the product’s appeal. Those who prefer the APA platform and/or do not require resources outside of APA products may consider PsycNet as an alternative. EBSCO’s Psychology & Behavioral Sciences Collection may be of consideration for those primarily seeking a full-text journal database, although ProQuest Psychology One offers significantly more holdings of such journals in comparison. While there is much to recommend this product with its truly immense collection of resources, subscribers to ProQuest One Psychology will likely continue to require subscriptions to databases beyond those offered by ProQuest to provide their users with the most comprehensive resources possible

    Wolfcraft: Five Poems

    No full text
The five poems gathered here are part of my manuscript of 64 poems that are my final thesis for the MFA in Creative Writing. My thesis, titled “Wolfcraft,” is an initiation text of sorts, where I move through five states of initiation to become my poet-self and my animal-self. The selected poems each represent one of the five stages of initiation that the manuscript explores

Oral Hygiene in Children from Low-Income Households

    Get PDF
Daily oral hygiene in children has severely decreased over years, and it has been known to make a negative impact on the future of children’s health. Children residing in low-income households in North Carolina have a poor foundation in oral hygiene due to the social determinants present in the Mecklenburg County community. This study aims to evaluate the Save a Smile program created by Mecklenburg County Health Department Pediatric Dentistry Division to address and reduce the social determinants of health that are observed under community, societal, and individual levels

An End to Domestic and Family Violence in Rural Communities

    Get PDF
Domestic violence and family violence continues to be an issue on several sectors of our societal structure. Unfortunately for our country, this sort of violence affects our country’s development. Perpetrators and victims have proven to be an enormous financial stressor as it relates to local law enforcement, health care entities, and communities as a whole. Specifically, in rural communities, there are several barriers that isolate these communities from urban areas with appropriate resources. Domestic violence and family violence has proven to be a universal problem with very distinct socio-economic, cultural, and racial peculiarities. However, the issue of domestic and family violence is very prevalent in rural areas, where there is not much emphasis placed on providing rural communities with adequate and appropriate resources. Go Purple for Ending Domestic Violence (GPED-V) will aim to specifically target rural community victims and perpetrators by providing appropriate and adequate resources directly in their communities. The success of GPED-V will be measured by the number of clients that are served successfully and surveys completed by community partners and clients

Increasing STI Risk Assessment in Primary Care

Adverse Childhood Experiences Screening in Primary Care

    Get PDF
oai:https://lair.lr.edu:20.500.12862/136Background: Adverse childhood experiences (ACES) are associated with poor mental and physical childhood outcomes. ACES are an important health topic with lack of awareness and education in the pediatric population. The American Academy of Pediatrics encourages providers to screen for ACES to mitigate toxic stress and build resilience (Isakson et al.,2020). Purpose: The purpose of this quality improvement project was to educate pediatric primary care providers on ACES, ACE screenings, and community resources for high-risk children. Increasing ACES awareness using evidence-based research and education may increase the frequency of ACE screenings in the primary care setting. Method: A quantitative design was used to measure the frequency of screening for Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACES) by pediatric primary care providers (PCPs). Participants consisted of 131 patients who attended various medical visits, including certain well child visits, behavioral visits, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) visits, and healthy lifestyle visits. The primary outcome measure of this study was to educate PCPs on ACES and increase the frequency of ACES screenings in their practice. Results: Following education and implementation of ACES screening, 75% of the providers expressed being more comfortable discussing ACES with patients and families and agreed to incorporate ACES screening in future practice. A Kruskal-Wallis rank sum test indicated a significant difference in ACES score between the levels of treatment, based on an alpha value of .05, χ2(4) = 63.20, p < .001. The average ACES score was 1.63, indicating most children included in this project have experienced at least one adverse childhood experience. Conclusion: Educating pediatric primary care providers on ACES and how to use the screening tool, led to 131 children being screened. With knowledge of patients’ adverse experiences, providers were able to connect patients and families to community resources to improve current health and reduce the risk of chronic diseases in adulthood. Keywords: ACES, adverse childhood experiences, pediatric primary care, pediatrics, resilience, ACE screenin

A Therapeutic Intervention to Improve Depression, Loneliness and Psychological Well-Being in Elderly Assisted Living Residents

    Get PDF
Background: As the US population continues to age and people move to nursing homes, interventions are needed to help prevent depression and loneliness that affect quality of life. Art therapy offers a broad range of activities that promote connectedness among assisted living residents. Research has shown that coloring mandala patterns in a group is beneficial in terms of social collaboration and engagement than individual activity. Purpose: The purpose of this DNP project was to determine if group mandala coloring sessions would affect depression, loneliness and well-being of the elderly assisted living residents. Methods: Residents’ loneliness, depression and well-being were measured with three easy-to-administer and publicly available scales pre- and post- intervention. Results: The general findings demonstrated that residents of this AL facility had symptoms of depression and loneliness as well as decreased well-being scores. The mandala coloring sessions positively affected the scores for depression but did not significantly influence loneliness and well-being in the elderly AL residents. The participants enjoyed the activity that promoted communication, socialization, and creativity

    Promoting Antibiotic Stewardship

    Get PDF
Background: Antibiotic resistance develops from inappropriate and overuse of antibiotics. Resistant infections lead to higher mortality rates, increased healthcare costs, and increased adverse effects. Purpose: The goal of this quality improvement project was to determine if the implementation of an existing Situation-Background-Assessment-Request (SBAR) tool developed by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) along with education provided to nursing staff and providers in a long-term care facility improved adherence to an antibiotic stewardship program. Methods: A systematic approach to data collection was conducted regarding patients with suspected urinary tract, lower respiratory tract, or skin and soft tissue infections. The tool provided helped nursing staff collect information to discuss with providers regarding patients with suspected infections. The study was implemented over a three-month period. Retrospective chart reviews were conducted, and pharmacy medication dispensing reports were used to determine pre- and post- implementation data regarding antibiotic name, duration, indication, and culture results. Results: The data collected for this project showed a decrease in antibiotics ordered by one (1) order. This does not show the implemented SBAR tool was successful or unsuccessful. Recommendations and Conclusions: Future studies should be provided with a longer time frame and comparing data for the same patients to include inferential statistics in the data analysis

Goal Setting to Facilitate Provider Management of Pediatric Obesity
