Estimation of the transition probabilities conditional on covariates with repeated measures: A joint modeling approach

    Get PDF
In recent years, there has been a significant urge of interest in longitudinal and survival data modeling. This approach holds particular significance in cancer research, where it enables the evaluation of how longitudinal markers influence the event of interest. This paper aims to introduce practical estimation techniques for transition probabilities, conditional on observed covariates with repeated measurements. This innovation allows us to incorporate the trajectory of longitudinal outcomes into regression models by accommodating time-varying covariates for each individual. The results presented in this study confirm the superior efficiency of the proposed methods, which merge existing approaches for joint modeling of longitudinal and survival data with the landmark approach for estimating transition probabilities. These methods outperform approaches that do not fully account the information provided by longitudinal covariate measurements

The relationship between the meanings of digital media

    No full text
This article addresses the contribution of digital media in structuring urban practices, exploring how students and teachers make sense of urban signs, spaces, and buildings around the school. The objective of this study is to analyze the functions and meanings of urban and digital media in the process of creating a sense of belonging and territorial identity. Participants were adolescents residing in the periphery of the metropolitan region of Recife, Pernambuco, Brazil, through the use of media in the urban context. The study employed a qualitative methodology with techniques that included participant and passive observation, as well as the use of digital ethnography techniques to capture evidence that allows for inferences about the meanings participants attribute to their different dispositions. Data analysis allowed for an understanding of how young people from the outskirts of Recife attribute meanings to their relationships with space through the use of media in urban spaces. This study demonstrated that the mentioned media play an important role in structuring situated educational practices with students and teachers. Their understanding can provide valuable insights and guidelines to guide the development of ubiquitous digital educational technologies and heritage education

The present study aims to discuss the impacts and benefits of administrative adverse possession in promoting land tenure regularization, social equality and human dignity. For that, it presents general notions about the adverse possession institute; discusses the creation of the extrajudicial form of adverse possession carried out in notaries in Brazil and Portugal; and exposes the contributions of extrajudicial adverse possession in order to relieve the judiciary. The methodology used in the elaboration of this dissertation was exploratory research, which aims to provide more familiarity with the problem in order to increase understanding or build hypotheses, making use of the bibliographic review carried out from the analysis of already published materials, such as books, scientific articles and legislation on the subject, allowing us to conclude that adverse possession has taken on a new dimension in the Brazilian legal system, given the enormous role it can play in the realization of fundamental rights, especially the right to housing. In this way, it is expected that, over time, the law will be improved, not only in the sense of speeding up the acquisition of real estate property, but also, making its social reach more effective and broader

Assessment of hydrometeorological impacts of climate change on Water Bodies in Northern Kazakhstan

    Get PDF
This article examines the impact of climate change on the hydrometeorological indicators of some lakes and reservoirs in the Akmola and North Kazakhstan regions. Two meteorological variables’ annual and seasonal trends at three weather stations in 1986–2023 were analyzed. The non-parametric Mann–Kendall and Sen’s slope methods were used to determine the presence of a positive or negative trend in weather data and their statistical significance. Hydrometric indicators were studied using the ArcGIS 10.8 program from 1995 to 2023. The results indicate an increasing average spring air temperature, with an annual rise of 0.08–0.09 °C. A significant trend in increasing average annual precipitation was observed in Saumalkol, with a rise of 4.7 mm per year. In contrast, no significant trends were found in the annual and seasonal precipitation data for Sergeyevka. It was also found that the area of Lake Saumalkol increased by 1.6% due to a rise in annual precipitation. In contrast, the area of Lake Kopa decreased by 6.04% because of an increase in the annual average temperature

Flexible nonparametric estimation of conditional bivariate distributions for recurrent event [comunicação oral]

    No full text
A main objective in recurrent event analysis is the estimation of the bivariate distribution function. This estimation is crucial across various fields, as it helps to better understand the patterns of recurring events and their underlying dynamics. The term ’gap time’ refers to the interval between consecutive occurrences of an event, and the bivariate distribution func- tion captures the joint probability distribution of two such gap times. Although substantial progress has been made in this area, many existing methods assume independent censoring and overlook the role of covariates. Therefore, this paper aims to introduce nonparametric methods for estimating the bivariate distribution function while accounting for covariates. The goal is to offer more accurate and relevant tools for analyzing recurrent event data, improving the interpretation and insights derived from such analyses

Training, recruitment and supervision of personnel in residential care centres [comunicação oral]

    No full text
Residential care centers and directors are under pressure to provide the best service to children and youngsters. At the same time, there is also a concern for personnel well-being, and personal and professional development. This qualitative study aimed to identify, with semi-structured interviews with directors of residential care centers, what are the most recent practices in terms of personnel recruitment, in-service training, supervision, and the promotion of caregivers’ well-being. The results revealed that workers were perceived as the most important resource in an organization. Promoting personnel training and the concept of care for caregivers were, therefore, identified as strategies to preserve adequate workers’ commitment to this demanding career, to avoid worker turnover. As workers are asked to apply their soft skills daily, training offered to these workers should focus more on knowledge about mental health and psychological and physical well-being, to assist them in providing adequate care. The results indicated that these subjects, and those specifically connected with at-risk children/youth, were identified as essential to the directors interviewed but were not yet broadly available as training offers

A multidimensional analysis of environmental awareness: The moderating effect of institutional trust

    Get PDF
The research aims to examine global environmental awareness and recognises the need to employ four behavioural dimensions (affective, cognitive, dispositional, and active) into a structured model. We also include trust in institutions to understand its moderating effect on individuals' behaviour. The study used a broad sample from the ISSP in 29 countries and 44,400 individuals between October 2019 and May 2023. The quantitative model was tested with SmartPLS 4. All the hypotheses were confirmed. The affective dimension of environmental awareness positively affects its cognitive dimension. Both the affective and cognitive dimensions have a positive influence on the dispositional dimension. The dispositional dimension positively influences its active dimension. Trust in institutions positively moderates the relationship between the dispositional and active dimensions. Our research demonstrated that each person simultaneously acts as a change agent based on their perception of personal responsibility and as a consumer, a concept that managers strive to comprehend. Previous research was validated by establishing a causal link between different dimensions of behavior. Managers must focus on integrating the factors that influence pro-environmental behaviour. Governments are essential in changing mentalities and turning dispositional attitudes into effectively active behaviours
