Digital Justice in the EU: Integration of BPMN and AI into ODR Processes

    No full text
With the proliferation of ODR service providers, there is a critical necessity to establish mechanisms supporting their functioning, particularly while designing ODR processes. This article aims to examine the impact of process modelling using BPMN, and of its relevance in the integration of AI into ODR processes within the EU. BPMN allows a meticulous depiction of all the ODR process steps, stakeholders, and underlying data in structured formats that are readable and interpretable by both humans and AI, which enables its integration. The advantages include predictive analysis, identification of opportunities for continuous improvement, operational efficiency, cost and time reduction, and enhanced accessibility for self-represented litigants. Additionally, the transparency afforded by explicitly incorporating AI in BPMN notation fosters a clearer comprehension of processes, facilitating management and informed decision-making. Nevertheless, it remains imperative to address ethical concerns such as algorithmic bias, fairness, and privacy

Identifying Coastal Heritage Vulnerabilities: The Case of Historical Fortified Structures in Northern Portugal

    No full text
Landscapes and heritage sites hold significant historical, scientific, and social value but face increasing threats from climate change and human activities. Coastal and maritime heritage are at risk from sea-level rise, storms, erosion, ocean acidification, and pressures such as urbanization, construction, and industrial development. Assessing vulnerability involves considering physical, geomorphological, and socioeconomic factors, including land use, population density, tourism, and ecosystem sensitivity. Long-term monitoring, interdisciplinary research, and holistic approaches are essential for effective risk assessment and planning. This study focuses on the coastal landscapes of northern Portugal, where climate change adaptation is urgent. These areas contain important historical heritage, especially fortified military structures that reflect regional identity and maritime history shared with other coastal nations. The research highlights significant risks to these monuments because of their proximity to the sea and expanding urban areas, providing insights to guide policymakers and support localized adaptation strategies. A two-phase methodology was employed, beginning with a comprehensive literature review to identify key indicators that informed field observations, surveys, and archival research, resulting in a detailed inventory of coastal and estuarine fortifications. The second phase assessed their vulnerability to sea-level rise, coastal flooding, and shoreline retreat. The study presents a methodological approach that provides local decision-makers with strategic guidance to enhance the protection and sustainable management of coastal heritage

Understanding Family Burden Associated with Pediatric Food Allergy: Contributions of Child Neophobia and Maternal Personality Traits

    No full text
Food allergy (FA) is a chronic condition that can markedly affect family quality of life (QoL). Children’s food neophobia (FN) may increase dietary management difficulties and parental stress, while maternal personality traits can shape family adjustment. This study examined the associations between maternal neuroticism, child FN, and the perceived impact of FA on family QoL, also considering the influence of child age. Sixty-three Portuguese mothers of children with physician-diagnosed FA completed a sociodemographic and clinical questionnaire and validated self-report measures: the Food Neophobia Scale for Children, the NEO Five-Factor Inventory, and the Food Allergy Quality of Life Questionnaire – Parent Form (FAQLQ-PF). Preliminary correlations guided predictor selection, followed by multiple linear regression models (enter method) for each FAQLQ-PF subscale: Emotional Impact, Food Anxiety, and Dietary/Social Limitations. Higher maternal neuroticism, greater child FN, and older child age were significantly associated with a greater perceived impact of FA on family QoL. The models explained 35.5% of the variance in Emotional Impact, F (3, 58) = 12.19, p < .001; 35.5% in Food Anxiety, F (3, 58) = 12.19, p < .001; and 32.9% in Dietary/Social Limitations, F (3, 56) = 10.66, p < .001. These findings underscore the need to integrate psychological screening and tailored psychosocial support into allergy care, addressing both maternal emotional traits and child eating behaviors to promote adaptive family functioning

Addressing Weight Bias in Clinical Practice: An Educational Proposal Based on Clinical Scenarios and Artificial Intelligence

    No full text
This article presents the development of an educational tool based on artificial intelligence and clinical simulation to address weight bias in medical practice. The platform allows health professionals to interact with simulated clinical scenarios in which their decision making is evaluated in front of overweight or obese patients. Through clinical vignettes and questionnaires, the tool seeks to promote self-awareness and critical reflection in users, with the aim of reducing implicit biases and improving the quality of care. Preliminary results indicate that a significant portion of professionals still associate patient weight with unrelated health problems, highlighting the need for educational interventions in this area. In addition, the platform generates valuable data for future research on the effectiveness of simulation-based educational approaches to reduce bias in clinical care. This proposal offers a replicable model for continuing health education, enhancing a more inclusive and equitable medical practice

    No full text

    No full text

Generalization analysis of ANN-Based routing protocols for diverse vehicular environments in VANETs

    No full text
The rapid advancement of intelligent transportation systems depends on effective and secure routing within vehicular communication networks under diverse driving conditions. This research investigates the efficacy of neural network-based routing protocols in enabling reliable and secure data transmission under diverse traffic conditions. Prior research has shown that neural networks can alleviate security threats, such as malicious node attacks; however, there has been inadequate exploration of their adaptability in urban, rural, and highway environments. This research examines routing performance in simulated traffic environments and actual mobility data to address this gap. The methodology utilizes robustness testing, transfer learning, and cross-domain validation to evaluate the sensitivity of routing models to variations in vehicle density, mobility patterns, and road configurations. The findings indicate that the neural network-based approach outperforms a conventional routing protocol across various contexts. In urban areas, the delivery rate increased from 78 % to 85 %, while in rural regions, it rose from 65 % to 77 %. We reduced the end-to-end delay by approximately 7 to 12 milliseconds in all instances. Relative to the baseline, throughput increased by approximately 10 to 15 percent, while energy efficiency improved by 5 to 8 percent. The proposed method enhanced system resilience against attacks, successfully thwarting over 90 % of malicious disruptions, in contrast to the 73 to 79 % efficacy of the previous protocol. This study presents a framework for designing adaptive and scalable routing systems that maintain consistent performance across diverse vehicular conditions. The findings enhance the safety and efficacy of intelligent transportation systems

Integrated communication is one of the most critical strategic guidelines in organizational communication. As marketers, we must take full advantage of these emerging technologies and recognize the importance of developing digital techniques to optimize marketing communication planning. Unfortunately, not all organizations recognize or consider the importance of integrated communication strategies and their impact on organizational objectives. This project aims to improve the organization's communication processes by identifying weaknesses through evaluation and diagnosis. Following a case study approach, I will analyze integrated communication strategies and their role in business growth. To conduct this study, information was gathered on the Venezuelan-American company SmartHop, headquartered in Miami, USA. SmartHop is a mid-sized trucking software-as-a-service (SaaS) company that has been operating in the U.S. market for approximately seven years. For this project, a qualitative research method was selected. Using this approach, we analyzed the company's current communication strategies, including social media publications, website management, internal employee portals, and internal communication tools, among others. Without disclosing confidential information, this project aims to enhance current processes to improve efficiency and achieve positive results in brand positioning and stakeholder relations, both internal and external. Data were collected on the company’s current communication strategies across two key areas of integrated communication, internal and external, with a specific emphasis on marketing/product communication. The main goals of this project are to identify key areas for improvement in the company’s current strategy and design a proposal for enhancements to increase the company's positive brand perception, improve employee morale, and enhance key digital marketing performance indicators. Throughout this document, we will present a literature review to define key concepts relevant to the project. This will be followed by a description of the selected methodology and the development of an integrated communication plan proposal. The proposal will include recommended procedures and visual representations of previously developed processes. Finally, the document will conclude with key insights and reflections on the project’s development
