Usability evaluation of a multisensory tool for literacy of children and young people with Down Syndrome

    No full text
This study evaluates the usability of Alfaba, a multi-sensory educational tool specifically designed to support literacy development for children and young people with Down Syndrome (DS). Alfaba integrates tactile, visual, and auditory feedback, aiming to facilitate letter recognition, phoneme association, and word construction in a manner aligned with the cognitive and motor needs of this population. A usability test was conducted with seven participants aged 7 to 17, focusing on their interactions with Alfaba to assess accessibility, engagement, and areas for improvement. The results highlight that Alfaba's tangible design and real-time feedback encourage independent learning, support error recognition, and foster motor skill development, making it a valuable literacy tool for individuals with DS. Additionally, the study identifies opportunities for enhancement, such as incorporating touchscreen capabilities, gamified elements, and customizable word groups to further engage users. Alfaba's adaptability to the Brazilian Portuguese phonetic structure also positions it as a culturally inclusive tool that addresses the specific phonological needs of Portuguese-speaking children with DS. This study contributes to the field of inclusive educational technology by offering design recommendations that can enhance Alfaba's impact on literacy and proposes directions for future research to further refine and assess its efficacy in controlled educational settings

Relationship between compassionate love and satisfaction with life in Angolan college students: The mediating roles of satisfaction with love life and commitment

    No full text
This research explored the relations between compassionate love (CL) for a partner, love satisfaction, commitment, and life satisfaction, and further aimed to scrutinize whether the relation between CL for a romantic partner and satisfaction with life was mediated by satisfaction with love life and commitment. The participants were 191 Angolan college students (50 % women; aged 18–34 years, M = 24.94; SD = 3.88). They answered scales to measure compassionate love, love satisfaction, commitment, and life satisfaction. Correlation, regression, and mediation analyses were performed to test the hypotheses. As expected, findings showed that CL for a partner and satisfaction with life were significantly and positively correlated. Furthermore, the results also indicated that love satisfaction and commitment fully mediated the relation between CL for a partner and satisfaction with life. The results afford insight into the relationships of compassionate love on satisfaction with life. Suggestions for future research are highlighted

A hierarchical multi-class classification system for face and text datasets

    No full text
In an era of rapidly growing multimedia data, the need for robust and efficient classification systems has become critical, specifically the identification of class names and poses or styles. This study provides an understanding of the organization of data, and feature selection (i.e., edge) using the k-means segmentation technique is explained. Furthermore, for the optimization of features, the linear regression technique is used. The optimized features can be directly used with classifiers, but to reduce the noise, outliers are identified and removed from the training data. The classifiers are involved in training and recognizing the face or text class label. After the prediction of class labels, the distance matrix-based technique is used to identify the style or pose name. Finally, the experiments are conducted with the help of the ORL dataset (40 classes and 10 poses in each class) and character dataset (36 characters and 10 font styles in each character). The experimental results indicated that the proposed methodology accurately classifies hierarchically organized data and demonstrates superiority over KNN and Bayesian-based classification when compared to support vector machine (SVM). The system provides classification outcomes with up to 100% accuracy for outlier-removed data, and up to 98% for basic features. Unlike traditional flat classification approaches, our system leverages hierarchical structures to enhance classification accuracy, scalability, and interpretability

Falsas verdades. O impacto das alucinações de IA nos Processos Judiciais Administrativos

    No full text

Capabilities approach to working from home: Is it the path to work engagement and work-life balance?

    No full text
This study investigates the role of the capabilities approach (as an ethical framework in management) on the well-being of workers in the context of working from home. A capabilities approach was used to examine the relationship between work engagement and work-life balance. Additionally, the conceptual model tested the role of trust as a mediator. The European Working Conditions Survey was the source of data for this study. Participants were selected based on their self-reported frequency of working from home. The final sample consisted of 23,748 participants. The hypothesis of the conceptual model was tested using the Partial Least Square (PLS) method for data analysis. The results show that, in general, the list of capabilities is empirically valid, presenting a significant relationship with work engagement and work-life balance, either directly or when mediated by trust. Based on the results of this work, organizations gain access to a set of guidelines on how to manage working from home based on the principles of the capabilities approach and liberated companies. This study presents the first empirical validation of the model's capabilities and demonstrates the application of the capabilities approach to the context of working from home

Relação entre depressão materna e índices sumários de cortisol durante o período perinatal: scoping review

    No full text
Perinatal depression is a public health issue with significant consequences for both mother and baby, being particularly prevalent in developing countries. Its relationship with cortisol, the primary biomarker of the stress response, has been widely studied, but findings remain inconsistent. Some studies suggest that hypercortisolemia is associated with mild and transient depressive symptoms, while hypocortisolemia may be linked to more severe and prolonged depression. However, the diversity of methods and indicators used to measure cortisol complicates the comparability of studies. This study aims to explore the association between depressive symptoms and cortisol levels during the perinatal period, up to three months postpartum, excluding women with a previous diagnosis of depression. Additionally, it seeks to map existing studies, identify the most commonly used summary indicators of cortisol, and describe the results found for each. By deepening this understanding, the study hopes to contribute to a better comprehension of cortisol's role in the pathophysiological mechanism of perinatal depression
