“Ostracods from Río Salí Formation (Upper Miocene), near to Raco, Tucumán province, Argentina”. Are described ostracod fauna from the Río Salí Formation (Upper Miocene) for the first time from Tucumán province. This fauna is represented by four species of non-marine ostracods: Darwinula stevensoni Brady y Robertson, Penthesilenula incae Delacheaux, Vestalenula sp. and Candona sp. This assemblage would indicate a developed in oligo to mesohaline, shallow lake, with clear waters, and low energy current, under a tropical to subtropical climate. These conclusions agree with the lithological data and provide some others details of paleoenvironmental conditions.

Reproduction is a fundamental process in the history of bird life and one which demands greater energy expenditure in bird life cycles. The reproductive biology of the R. sociabilis was studied in the lagoon of the Santa Fe. All nests (N = 46) were built on Solanum glaucophyllum at 1.10 ± 0.26 m water level, recording per nest 2-3 (2.76 ± 0.43) eggs, an average the length, width and weight were: 43.18 ± 1.53 mm, 35.52 mm and 28.05 ± 1.23 ± 2.86 g, respectively. The size of the eggs was not affected by the amount of the eggs in the nest (nests with two eggs vs three eggs). If differences between the height of the nests were observed as were higher which contained two eggs. The reproductive suc- cess was 49.0%, 41.0% the brood, hatching the 67.0% (N = 94) and 63.0% of fledging. Of the total monitored 19 nests failed (N = 46), six did so by environmental factors and six by intrinsic factors of the species. The crude death rate was 57.0%, the rate of age-specific mortality 33.0% (egg) and 36.0% (chicks). The daily mortality rate of nests was 12.4%, the holding period of the chicks in the nest was 24.17 ± 5.08 days and the average number of fledglings per nest was 2-3 (2.0 ± 0.6).

Agudelo, Ignacio; Marcelo Wagner; Rafael Ricco. 2017. “Variation in the content of chlorophylls, carotenoids and anthocyanins in galls induced by Neolithus spp (He- miptera: Psyllidae) in Sapium haematospermum (Euphorbiaceae)”. Lilloa 54 (2). Sapium hae- matospermum Müll. Arg. (Euphorbiaceae) is a tree native to South America and is usually infested by psyllids of the Neolithus genus, which induce the formation of galls in its leaves. The insect induces anatomical and biochemical changes that form a new structure with a particular tissue arrangement to protect the host. Photographs of red galls, green galls and mature fruit were obtained. Chlorophyll a and b, carotenoid pigments and anthocyanins were measured by spectrophotometric techniques. Also transversal cuts were performed in order to know the histological disposition of the anthocyanin compounds; the aglycone compound was characterized by chromatographic and spectrophotometric methods. Galls had a lower concentration of chlorophylls and carotenoids compared to healthy leaves. Anthocyanins were found in the external epidermis of red galls; this organ had the largest concentration of these pigments and the main aglycone was cyanidin. Green galls and healthy leaves didn’t have a detectable amount of these substances. Galls had a lower concentration of photosynthetic pigments; this is an indicator of a reduced photosynthesis typical of pho- toassimilates sinks. The anthocyanins are mainly cyanidin glycosides and are located in the external epidermis; this indicates and aposematic and/or an UV-protection function.Agudelo, Ignacio; Marcelo Wagner; Rafael Ricco. 2017.
