We present data of 113 live specimens of 11 different taxa of night raptors from Argentina. The information was obtained through ringing campaigns of the Centro Nacio- nal de Anillado de Aves (CENAA) and the Centro de Rehabilitación de Aves Rapaces (CeRaR), both belonging to the National University of Tucumán, Argentina. We used mist nests during the night to capture the owls during such campaigns. In the field, we took measures of total length, bill (culmen with wax and culmen without wax), wing chord, and body mass of each bird. The objective of the work was to obtain biometric information of live owl specimens that can be used later in ecological, taxonomic and phylogenetic studies.

A nest containing two eggs of the Short-tailed Antthrush, Chamaeza campanisona (Li- chtenstein, 1823), found on October 15, 2014, in the province of Misiones, Argentina, is described. The nest was found inside the cavity of a rotten trunk of the “ambay” tree ( Ce- cropia pachystachya ) (cavity/with tunnel/simple/platform). The nest was made of dry leaf litter, with leaves at least 4.5 cm wide. It contained two short subelliptical eggs, of an opaque white color, with calcareous material over the cuticle seen as “spots” on part of their surface; they were not completely smooth. Moreover, one of the eggs presented small wrinkles. Egg measurements were greater than those known for the species.

The Amazon is a region of South America considered of vital importance due to its high biodiversity. It is considered as one of the most productive terrestrial ecosystems on the planet, due to its structural and landscape complexity. It harbors a great diversity of bats, being Carollia perspicillata (Phyllostomidae) one of the most commonly recorded, it is mainly frugivorous, foraging in the lowest stratum of the forest, there are few studies about its ecology and even less in the Amazon region; therefore, this study aims to evaluate the influence of abiotic factors (temperature, seasonality, illuminated phase of the Moon) on a population of the aforementioned species in the Brazilian Amazon. For the capture of bats, 8 mist nets were used in terra firme forest in the Brazilian central Amazon. The temperature data were provided by the National Institute of Meteorology (INMET-Brazil), while the percent- age of illuminated phase of the Moon for each day of collection was obtained by Moontool version 2.0 Software. In total, 888 individuals were captured: 358 males and 530 females. A higher frequency of young individuals (for both sexes) was recorded in the rainy season, as well as lactating females and the total of individuals recorded. The weight of the bats does not seem to respond to the climate season. The temperature did not significantly influence the abundance of individuals, however the percentage of illuminated phase of the Moon does, as has already been demonstrated by other authors, responding to a phenomenon known as «moon phobia». Results suggest that abiotic factors may influence on populations of this bat species in the forests of the Brazilian Amazon.

We compared the biometrics, plumage, behavior, distribution and migration of Elaenia albiceps nesting along the forests of Argentina and central and southern Chile and we concluded that two forms with different phenotypes occur, one in the southern Yungas of northwestern Argentina, the other in the sub-Antarctic forests of Argentina and Chile. We found that these two forms present different patterns of migration, returning to their nesting areas by different routes. Whereas populations that nest in the southern Yungas would be migrating to the breeding area from the Pantanal in Mato Grosso through Chacoan dry forests, populations of Elaenia albiceps chilensis which nest in southern Argentina and Chile migrate from Brazil through the upland Atlantic forest of extreme northeastern Argentina. They pass through the Atlantic Forest along the Uruguay and Paraná rivers, cross the Espinal and arrive in the Monte desert of the provinces of San Juan and Mendoza, in late October and early November. Very few individuals remain in the Monte during the summer; most cross the Andes to Chile or move to the south of Argentina, where they nest primarily south of 35 degrees latitude.

The Angostura Dam, Tucumán, has undergone many changes in recent years that have changed its bird community. Birds respond to changes in an ecosystem, which makes them good bioindicators. In this study, the richness and abundance of birds in relation to anthropogenic changes that took place at the dam since 2000 and for the following 13 years are described. Transect censuses were conducted in different seasons. Both species richness and abundance of birds showed variations over the years. The aquatic vegetation and surroundings of the dam were the main source for food, nesting and shelter for many resident and migratory species, which were affected by human impacts on the dam.

The sedimentary cover in the Calchaquí valleys is represented by two sedimentary basins. The oldest corresponds to the Cretaceous rift basin (Cretaceous-Eocene) represented by the S alta Group and the youngest is related to the Andean foreland basin (Eocene-Pliocene) represe nted by the Payogastilla Group. Recently an unconformity has been recorded between the two s edimentary fill basins and growth structures were founded developed in the base of the Pay ogastilla Group that allow us to interpretan Eocene deformation event. Part of the faults rel ated to the growth structures were normal faults during the Cretaceous rift and inverted during the Eocene. The Tonco valley forms part of the Calchaquíes valleys and preserves Salta and Payogastilla groups sedimentary successions in an N-S synclinal structure. The synclin e is bordered by two N-S, retrovergentinverse faults, Calchaquí and Tonco faults, that ha ve been interpreted as Cretaceous riftnormal faults. The main goal of this paper is to pr esent a detailed description of structural variations along the syncline. Two structural directions have been interpreted, the first delineated by the Salta Group and the other by the Payogastilla Group which evidence the unconformity between these Groups. Characteristic struct ural/stratigraphic inversion features are described, and allow us to interpret that the Tonco fault was a normal fault and the Calchaquí fault was a half-graben border during the Cretaceou s and these faults could have been inverted during the Eocene.
