Evidence of occurrence of Lowland Tapir (Tapirus terrestris) and Giant Anteater (Myrmecophaga tridactyla) in the province of Santa Fe, Argentina, is scarce, mainly in the case of the tapir whose current occurrence is still debated. Between the 22nd and 24th of February 2020, both species, categorized as “Vulnerable” both nationally and internationally, were recorded and documented 28 km north of the town of Villa Guillermina (Santa Fe), confirming their current presence in the province. Records were made in the north of the Cuña Boscosa santafesina, a region of approximately 10,000 km2 composed of various types of forests, palm groves, savannas and marshes characteristic of the Humid Chaco ecoregion. These environments continue towards the Province of Chaco, constituting a remnant or biological corridor that increase the available habitat for these threatened species. Some factors that constitute potential threats to these species, such as livestock activity, hunting pressure, presence of domestic dogs, grassland burning and deforestation, were observed in the area. The importance of conserving the environments of the Humid Chaco ecoregion locatedin the north of the province of Santa Fe that are underrepresented in the Provincial System of Natural Protected Areas is highlighted because these contain species with conservation priority such as tapir and Giant Anteater in addition to presenting the greater biodiversity within the provincial territory.

?Distribution types of the Discoeliinae subfamily with descriptions of two new genera from Argentina (Hymenoptera: Eumenidae)? The subfamily Discoeliinae contains 13 genera in the world classified in two tribes, Discoeliini and Zethini. Most genera (9) are in the more primitive tribe Discoeliini and are restricted to specific zoogeographic regions. Furthermore 66% of the genera are restricted to the southern hemisphere. Neodiscoelius is overall the genus with most primitive characters. 1t is restricted to the temperate beech forests of Argentina and Chile and may be related to Australozethus which predominates in the Bassian faunal province of Australia. The Zethini contains four genera, two restricted to Australia, one to the Antartic Region of southern South America and the very large genus Zethus which is nearly cosmopolitan. Observations on the distribution patterns are presented with special emphasis on the New World forms. Two new genera and one new species are described from Argentina. A key to the genera is provided.

    No full text
The European Starling Sturnus vulgaris is one of the most invasive bird species in the world, as it causes drastic economic and biodiversity losses. In Argentina, its populations are established and in expansion. Negative interactions of this species with native species have already been recorded. Here, we describe its current distribution in La Pampa province from central Argentina, whose landscape belongs to two phytogeographic provinces where an extensive community of cavity-nesting birds occur. Also, the first nest box breeding record and the first nestling’s diet description is described for the region. Occurrence data were obtained from online databases of bird observations and from our own records. Based on these results, it is presumed that the expansion would be taking place in a western direction from the original populations in Buenos Aires province. Successful breeding confirmation, together with its ongoing expansion, should constitute an alert of the potential risk for some cavity user species. It is necessary to implement systematic surveys of the situation to assess the eventual execution of measures that mitigate the potential negative effects on native birds.

Review of the Argentine species of the genus Bosmina Baird grouped in the subgenus Neobosmina Lieder (Crustacea: Cladocera)?. Morphological and biometrical characters of a lot of Neobosmina specimens from several localities of Argentina are studied. The importance and variability of such characters are also discussed. Three species are identified: Bosmina (N.) hagmanni Stingelin. The new combination B. huaronensis from B. lonfispina var. huaronensis Delachaux and a list of synonyms for each species is proposed. These species can be differentiated by the combination of at least 14 characters of different values for females and males. The males of these three species hitherto unknown are described; so the similarity of the shape of the male postabdomen in the subgenus Neobosmina is confirmed. It is also discussed the geographical distribution based on the author?s original records and on those of the literature.
