    Influence of Credit Principles on Debt Recovery among Microfinance Institutions in Eldoret Town, Kenya

    Credit policy management is a requirement for micro-finance stability and it improves profitability; however deteriorating credit policy management is always the cause of poor profitability and financial performance. Serious loss of profitability and financial problems to microfinance industry has been caused by delays on debt recovery from debtors as they fall due, because it increases bad debts and affects customer relations. The main purpose of the study was to determine the influence of credit principles for credit supply on debt recovery among microfinance institutions in Eldoret Town, Kenya. The study was guided by; Resource Based Theory. This study employed descriptive survey research design. The study targeted 12 microfinance institutions with a total of 132 respondents (credit officers and accountant. The sample size of the study was 99 respondents. This study use stratified random sampling technique to collect data from the respondents; 45 credit officers and 54 accountants. Data collection instrument for the study was questionnaires. The questionnaire was administered using a drop and pick later method. The data collected was analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Analyzed data was presented using chats, figures and tables. The results showed that credit principles had a positive and statistical significant influence on debt recovery among microfinance institutions (β=0.161, p<0.05). Credit principles determines efficiency of debt recovery since flexible polices attract more people who can abide by. In conclusion MFIs in Eldoret have well-articulated policies to facilitate effective debt recovery process in microfinance institutions. The study recommends to the microfinance institutions that have not put into serious consideration comprehensive credit check measures to adopt it fully because it’s a good credit score to determine risks involved when lending money.     Assessment of Practical Skill in the Implementation of Competence Base Curriculum in Secondary Schools of Temeke District, Tanzania

    The purpose of this study was to explore on the Implementation of Competence Based curriculum in Secondary schools of Temeke District in Tanzania. The study was guided by following research questions: What are the assessment modes used in the implementation of competence based curriculum in secondary schools in Temeke district- Tanzania? Which resources are available for the assessment of the implementation of competence based curriculum in secondary schools in Temeke district-Tanzania? What are the teachers skills and competency in assessing competence-based curriculum implementation in secondary schools in Temeke district-Tanzania? How do teachers use the assessment feedback to improve practical skills in secondary schools in Temeke District- Tanzania? The convergent research design method employed in the study. Probability random sampling and non-probability sampling helped to select respondents from learners, district educational officers and officers from National examinational council of Tanzania (NECTA). The actual sample was 391 students, 115 teachers, 7 headmasters/mistresses 4 students finished in those schools, 1 District education office, 1 director of NECTA and 1 Director from TIE. Data were collected by using questionnaires and interview guides. Qualitative and the quantitative data were analyzed separately and results converged during interpretation. The researcher adhere to the ethical consideration of research by betting the introduction letter from the Catholic University of Eastern Africa for data Collection, then sent the letter to Director of Municipal council in Temeke. The director gave the researcher permission collect data in schools by the allocation of the District Education Officer. In the process of data collection the research considered the anonymity and confidentiality of the respondent. The researcher considered the humanity to all respondent when they were participating in this study. Quantitative data were analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Science version 23 and was presented using frequencies and percentages. Qualitative data analyzed using the thematic analysis approach and presented using narrative descriptions. The finding show that the competence based curriculum in Temeke District in Tanzania is still wanting. The mode of assessment used in school in pen and papers, the availability of resources is poor and the teachers are incompetent in assessing the practical skills in secondary school in Temeke District in Tanzania.     Effects of Governance Practices on Performance among Secondary Schools in Buuri Sub-County; Meru County

    The purpose of this study was to establish the effects of governance practices on performance among secondary schools in Buuri sub-county; Meru County. The study adopted a descriptive survey research design. It targeted a population of fifteen secondary schools in Buuri Sub County, Meru County. The study used purposive sampling method in selecting 60 respondents from all the schools. The researcher used questionnaires to collect primary data. The study adopted the drop and pick method in collecting the data. Validity and reliability of the data collection instrument was done to ensure that it measures the constructs of the study. Descriptive statistics such as mean and percentages were computed to capture the characteristics of the variables under study while inferential statistics, specifically the Pearson correlation and regression coefficient was used to assess the relationship of the independent and dependent variables. The findings indicated that governance practices (stakeholders support, leadership style, communication and board composition) have a positive and significant effect on performance of learning institutions. However, organizational politics was found to have a negative and significant effect on performance of learning institutions. Based on the findings, the study recommended that learning institutions in Meru County need to strengthen their stakeholders support, leadership style, communication, organisational politics and board composition related aspects. The results have enormous implications on running of the learning institutions. The study has provided valuable contributions in the learning institutions and informs policy formulation on good governance in the education sector.     Women Inclusion, Technical Support, Funds and Maintenance of Handpump Operated Boreholes: Case of Kitui South Sub-County

    Women are half of the community and they are key participants in successful projects. Involving women has also a positive impact on their position in the community. The aim of this study was to assess the effect of inclusion of women in water users’ committees on level maintenance of hand-pump operated boreholes in Kitui South Sub-county. The study adopted descriptive survey research design. The target population consisted of the executive leadership of WUCs which includes chairperson, treasurer, and secretary. The population was grouped into: executive WUC officials and non-office-holder WUC members. Since the ratio of executive WUC members to non-office-holder members is 1:2, out of five executive officials (5) and at least ten (10) non-office-holder members, the researcher sampled one executive official and two committee members were picked from every ward summing the respondents to 296. Data was collected by use of questionnaire administered through drop-and pick later method. Variables data were analysed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences. A multiple regression model was used to determine the effect of women inclusion in water users’ committees on maintenance of hand pump operated boreholes. Regression analysis was used to establish the relative significance of each of the variables on the effect of gender composition, community participation, technical Support and maintenance funds on maintenance of hand pump operated boreholes. The study found that maintenance of hand pump operated Kitui South Sub County was being influenced though differently by gender composition, community participation, technical support and maintenance funds. Community members are involved in project site identification, project implementation and community participation supports in project efficiency. The study concluded that maintenance of the hand pump operated boreholes could be achieved through women inclusion in the identification, design and implementation of the water projects, enhancing the level of community participation, developing programmes that addressed technical support of the community water management committees in terms of technical and managerial aspects, and developing sustainable financing strategies for operations and maintenance of the hand pump operated boreholes in Kitui South Sub County. The study made recommendations that policy makers should also formulate policies to address financing of operations and maintenance of community water projects as the study shows that majority of the respondents indicated that there was no financial support for operations and maintenance. The ministry of Agriculture, Water and Livestock Development should factor in its annual budgets capacity building funds for committees managing community based water project committees to enhance sustainability of these projects. It is recommended that choice of technical support to be used in hand pump operated boreholes be based on maintenance costs, availability of spare parts and technical expertise required for maintenance of these boreholes.     Effect of Strategy Execution on Performance of Parliamentary Service Commission of Kenya

    The centrality of effective execution of processes has been an area of emphasis since pre-industrial revolution. Effectively executed organisational processes have a positive influence on overall performance. Although modern organizations do come up with good strategic plans, majority of them experience challenges in successful execution of their plans. The study sought to establish the relationship effective strategy execution and performance of the Parliamentary Service Commission of Kenya. The target population was a total of 71 employees/staff from Parliamentary Service Commission offices situated in Nairobi. The research design that was adopted for this study was descriptive research design. Data collected was analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS). Linear regression model was used to establish the relationship between the independent variables and the dependent variable and the strength upon which the independent variables affect the dependent variable. Effective strategy execution was found to have a positive and strong correlation with performance (r=0.739; p=0.016). A statistically significant relationship was found, leading to rejection of the null hypothesis (p=0.00; p<0.05). It was recommended that further studies should be done on other factors not studied herein that can affect performance in various sectors.     The Influence of the Legal Environment on Performance of Small and Large Enterprises in Venezuela

    The study investigated the influence of the legal environment on the performance of small and medium enterprises in Venezuela. A descriptive research design was utilized in the study. The survey covered 34 small and large enterprises in Venezuela. A census was conducted in the investigation since the focus population was small and manageable. The unit of observation included the managers, supervisors and support staff. Questionnaires with closed-ended questions were administered directly to the respondents. The data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. The descriptive statistics entailed the frequencies, mean and standard deviation, while inferential statistics comprised of the correlation and the regression analysis. Analysis of variance was utilized to determine whether the overall model was statistically significant. The findings of the study reported that legal factors that influenced the performance of the small and large enterprises in Venezuela were liberation in management, levels of consumer protection, economic regulation on price ceiling, licensing requirements, competition regulation, export subsidies, trade tariffs, import quotas and level of taxes. The study concluded that the legal environment was positively and significantly related to performance. The study recommended that small and large Enterprises in Venezuela be granted democracy in their leadership style and not dictated on who be involved in the management.     Transformational Leadership and Growth of Women-Owned Micro and Small Enterprises in Kasarani Division, Nairobi County - Kenya

    The growth of women-owned enterprises is currently attracting much policy and literal attention. There is debate that transformational leadership is essential to the growth of micro and small enterprises (MSEs). However, empirical evidence of the role of transformational leadership on the growth of women-owned enterprises in Kenya is scarce. The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of transformational leadership on the growth of women-owned enterprises in Kasarani Division in Nairobi County. A random sample of 400 women-owned and managed MSEs was surveyed using a structured questionnaire. The Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire (MLQ) was used to measure transformational leadership. Regression models were used to examine the effects of transformational leadership on enterprise growth. Having parents in business and obtaining business advice were negatively associated with growth. Further, the age of the business and obtaining credit for business operations were positively associated with enterprise growth. The results of this study suggest that enhancing transformational leadership in women-owned enterprises is a viable policy option. The need to enhance business heritage is recommended.     The Role of Strategic Leadership on Academic Performance of Secondary Schools in Kenya: A Case Study of Nakuru County

    The importance of leadership in school academic performance has been noted by diverse scholars. This is because the leadership is involved in stakeholder management, resources mobilization and deployment, motivation of teachers, maintaining of school discipline levels, elimination of drug abuse menace, and policy formulation. The role of strategic leadership is even more critical within the secondary schools' system in order to achieve and maintain sustainable academic performance. The impact of strategic leadership and academic performance is illustrated through diverse schools in the country. This study examined the role of strategic leadership in academic performance of secondary schools in Nakuru County. In particular, the study examined the role of discipline levels management, resources mobilization, stakeholder management, and strategy execution on academic performance. This study used the resource-based view and dynamic capabilities theory for theoretical review. In the context of research design, the descriptive research design was utilized. The targeted population for the secondary schools in Nakuru County was 338 schools while that of teachers was 8,400 teachers. A sample size of 99 respondents calculated using the Naissuma formula was used for the study. Data collection was undertaken using questionnaire. The means, frequency distributions, standard deviations and inferential statistics that is multiple linear regression was utilized for this study. The regression model had an R Square value of 0.805, which indicated that 80.5% of the variation in academic performance in secondary schoolsin Nakuru County were explained by discipline levels management, resources mobilization, stakeholder management and strategy execution. The study concluded that academic performance of secondary schools in Nakuru County can be predicted using discipline levels management, resources mobilization, stakeholder management and strategy execution. Diverse stakeholders including the ministry of education officials, principals of diverse schools in Nakuru County, researchers in the subject matter, and board of management of diverse schools benefited from the findings of the study. Moreover, the findings were useful to the researchers in the area of strategic leadership as it expanded the available body of knowledge on areas of strategic leadership and academic performance.     Relationship between Power Supply Interruptions and Financial Performance of Manufacturing Companies in Machakos County

    The importance of power supply to economic development of any nation cannot be overemphasized. Availability and access to reliable electricity supply has a rippling effect on productivity of manufacturing firms. Unreliable power leads to disruptions in production, loss of perishable goods, damage to sensitive equipment and loss of orders. The study examined the relationship between power supply interruptions and manufacturing companies’ financial performance in Machakos County. The study employed descriptive research design. The population for this study constituted the 69 manufacturing firms in Machakos County. The study found that scheduled maintenance and financial performance are positively and significantly related. Equipment vandalism and financial performance are negatively and significantly related. It was also established that response time and financial performance are positively and significantly related. Repair costs and financial performance are negatively and significantly related. In conclusion, electricity is necessary for the operation of any manufacturing company and any interference with electricity supply makes manufacturing companies run into serious losses. The financial performance of manufacturing companies in Machakos County are always affected by; scheduled maintenance by power utility, vandalism of electrical equipment, the response time by power utility staff to restore power and the cost the companies incur in terms of paying losses as a result of damage caused by power outage. Due to the important nature of electricity in the manufacturing industry, there is need to create clear policy framework protecting manufacturing companies from regular power outage which has  an adverse effect on the operations of the manufacturing companies in the country. Scheduled maintenance by should be done in such a way that it does not interfere with the normal operations of manufacturing companies. The government and the utility company should ensure that there are vigilant groups are formed to  safe guard power equipment and power lines against vandalism which has become a major setback to the utility company in its attempt to maintain constant power supply.     Succession Planning and Organizational Performance of Faith Based Organizations: A Case of Catholic Archdiocese of Nairobi

    In today's very competitive world of business, organizations require a very sustainable high quality and creative workforce.  This requires effective succession plan to avoid power vacuum created by transfer, promotion, death and dismissal. The purpose of this study was to establish the influence of succession planning on organizational performance of faith based educational institutions in a case of Catholic Archdiocese of Nairobi. The Specific objectives of the study were to; assess the influence of human resource planning on performance; establish the influence of career development on the organizational performance; assess the influence of selection procedure on the performance of organizations and to examine the moderating effect of regulatory framework on the relationship between succession planning and performance of Faith Based Educational organizations in Catholic Archdiocese of Nairobi. The study was anchored in theories and models, namely human capital theory, social exchange theory, relay succession planning model and scharmer's theory U model. The targeted population was 150 employees working in 17 accredited catholic educational institutions in Nairobi Diocese, who comprised of the principals and top management in these institutions. A census was used to provide detailed information on all or most elements. Data was collected using questionnaires and interview guide. An interview guide with open-ended questions was used to collect data from principals/administrators and heads of departments. Regression analysis was used to establish the influence of succession plan on organizational performance. The findings of the study showed that there was a positive and significant relationship between human resource planning and Organizational performance (B=0.163, p=0.048). In addition, there was a positive and significant relationship between career development and organizational performance (B=0.134, p=0.027). Moreover, there was a positive and significant relationship between selection procedure and organizational performance (B=0.366, p=0.000). Finally, there was a positive and significant relationship between the moderating effect of regulatory framework on the relationship between succession planning and performance. The study recommended that institutions should put in place an effective succession planning and human resource planning to avoid staff shortage. Also, to introduce career development plans and encourage staff to identify their learning needs.  In addition, establish the best criteria for staff selection and encourage participatory governance.
