    No full text
Available studies on culturally-contextualized work-life balance (WLB) programs in Jordan are scarce. The present qualitative study of the understanding of WLB) benefits offered in three Jordanian telecommunication companies, adds to this literature, based on interviews with 15 senior managers. The research is grounded within the theoretical perspective of Critical Realism, a useful approach to the study of organisations. The study identified three distinct types of WLB: social and cultural practices; financial practices; and leave arrangements. In comparison with developed countries, social practices such as time for prayers, Hajj (pilgrimage) leave, and concessions in hours worked during the fasting month of Ramadan reflected the culture and religion of Jordan as an Arabic, Islamic country. WLB benefits were also to current levels of economic development in Jordan. Senior managers’ reasons for accepting or initiating WLB practices included level of competition in the labour market, existing government regulations, social and culture norms of society, and pressures (including market pressures) relating to women in the workforce. Financial practices were linked to a competitive market, reflecting the need to retain well-qualified staff. These financial benefits including subsidized childcare, paid study leave, and family health insurance, and were reported to have the strongest positive impact on organisational morale and staff retention. We argue that successful international investors should recognize, co-operate with local norms, values and practices underlying WLB provision. The very rapid development of ICT in the digital era has an impact on various lines of life, including changes in consumer behavior in shopping. Business people need to know the proper use of digital marketing in order to effectively target appropriate consumers. Digital marketing describes the use of technology in marketing efforts and business practices by marketing goods, services, information, and ideas via the internet, cell phones, display advertisements, and other electronic media. Data-driven marketing uncovers a variety of tactics to approach, attract, resuscitate, delight, and drive customers to online marketing. Digital marketing facilitates many-to-many communications because of the high level of connectivity and is usually used to promote products or services in a timely, relevant, more personal, and cost-effective manner. Marketing activities are carried out intensively using digital media, from promotions or product offers to product sales. Today, a website is arguably the most crucial element of your entire marketing strategy. Even a simple site without a lead capturing process or sales page will be consulted as a digital business card before a deal is struck or a purchase is made. For this reason, overhauling outdated designs to keep up with industry standards is a no-brainer. Traditional advertising is not completely dead yet. Manufacturers still use formal events like trade shows to good effect, and often spend on TV spots, magazines, and other traditional media forms. Based on the available literature, the old method of print advertising and radio ads still work but they are becoming less effective as people look to online sources for their shopping. Manufacturing companies still use these old school methods like networking events and trade shows and they still produce results. Impact of Financial Accounting Standards Board Accounting Standards Update ASU 2016-02 Leases on Amazon Incorporation Economics Models in USA

    No full text
Board (IASB) made an update to the Accounting Standards (No. 2016-02) on leases. The update deals with leases, and the new guidelines will impact the procurement and management of corporate leases. Previous lease accounting standards had faced a lot of criticism for not accounting for the financial requirements of those who use financial statements. This prompted the FASB to work to remedy these problems. The ASU 2016- 02 brings with it significant changes to financial statements and processes. This paper looks at Amazon.com Inc. to understand how new standards can be used to address the inconsistencies that arise in the prior guidelines on the reporting of leases. To analyze the change in the reporting of leases, we consider three elements: contingent rent, minimum rent expense, and the deferred rent liability. The changes brought about by the updated accounting standard change the overall value of a company. Corporate analysts mainly pay attention to the composition of the balance sheet and the alignment of the income statement of a company with its balance sheet. In conclusion, the GAAP guidelines on the treatment of leases has corrected the problems that were criticized in the previous guidelines. The ASU 2016- 02 leases have brought major improvement in the way leases are accounted for and will bring with it clear improvements in the estimation of the financial standing of companies. Though it will take some time and money to effectively adopt the guidelines, they will be beneficial to the companies in the long run
